  1. Hi, thanks for your reply. I already have a kenwood double din fitted with can lead and facia panel I just cannot stand the 3 different plastic tones with this setup hence why I like the pioneer unit which does away with all of this. My only concern is pioneer themselves state this is for '09 octavias onwards. I have however seen pics of older cars with them fitted. I just wanted to question if there is a canbus issue at all as with the MFD3.

  2. Hi All. Has anyone fitted a Pioneer AVIC-F9110BT to a fitting pre '09 Octavia? I'm looking at buying one but i cannot find any clear statement to say if the unit will work with my '57 Vrs. I'm not sure if it's down to a speed pulse thing for the sat nav with my car not having the latest Can system. I don't want to buy this unit only to find it won't work! Any help/guidance will be greatly received :) Many Thanks

  3. Thanks for that. If I'm feeling brave, i'll give it a whirl. I must admit, I didn't fancy the smart route really and if this doesn't pan out, I can always order the painted finished article from Skoda. How would you reattach the plastics after repair? Any idea?

They'll be stuck on with a foam based double sided tape, usually 3m. A good motor factors should be able to help you out there. Smart paint repair is ok if you're selling the vehicle but that's where if end IMO. Anything you can paint off of the car you really are best doing so.

  4. With a little touch of heat and a plastic spreader these will be off in no time. Just gently warm the strip and then slide the spreader along the fixing tape and they'll come off without too much hassle. The hardest part will be removing the old tape what's left on the door, if any. There is a thing called a toffee wheel that will make light work of this if you can find one. If you're not too far from me (Watford) I can lend you mine. Spend the time and do it right and you'll be a lot happier than going down the Smart route.

  5. They are ok but they they tend to squeak and rattle around a bit and they are quite loose fitting. Also the look is never quite there. When i do the rest of my install i'm going to trim it all in the same vinyl, sorry leather :giggle: , and run all the double stitching through it too to have all in 'keeping'.

  6. Looks really good............so what have you got the monitors connected to in terms of source?

Cheers, at the mo they are both hooked up to my HU. It features dual zone capabilities so all is good there. I'm doing the sums at the moment to see if I can fit a slim PS 2 into the rear arm rest as my eldest is 14 he doesn't always want to watch fireman Sam!! I only want to use it for the DVD player and I like the fact it can be used at any angle. Watch this space as I've got the bug now :)

  7. Well the fascia has to be changed if updating to columbus from swing !!!!

However not to be changed if updating to a bolero head unit .......

No idea about the parking sensors though !!!

Anyone who s done a retrofit...please help me out if possible ...I need the parking sensors to be displayed on the screen !!

Have a quick look at these, i fitted some to a friends car recently and tied them into his aftermarket HU and they were fantastic, displaying image and distance on the HU. They say they can be intergrated into OEM equipment and are a lot cheaper than other options i've seen.

  8. Just had a quote for a couple of headrest screens and a dvd player (fitted into the back of one of the screens  ) of approaching 1k.

I think i'll entertain my little one by singing to her instead

Good option at that price! I would've done the same but my singing is utterly rubbish :D That price does sound a little steep though. Most of the screens with dvd players in are pre mounted in headrests (circa £300 for a pair), then its just a case of swapping them over and running a few power/earth cables and Bob's your uncle.

  9. Well i attacked my car and got around to fitting my rear screens. Shooting myself now for not going for the slim line Veba's but the Necvox's were just too cheap to miss out on. It was a little fiddly as first, the screen boxes are so deep on the Necvox's so a bit of jiggery pokery and packing out was needed but they look fine now, secondly, they older style screens don't have the 12/14mm post cable plugs and i wasn't going to cable tie them up or anything silly so out came the cutters and i re soldered at the bottom of the seat. Any how they are all working fine with the dual zone option on my HU and my children are very happy so i do believe it's mission accomplished :)

  11. Hi Folks,

Got some DVD headrests for my Octy MK II VRS but having problems feeding the cable down the inside of the seat - because of the stitching across the middle. Has anyone done this before, or got any ideas how to get the cable past the stitching that runs across the whole of the middle of the seat?

I'm using a coat hanger to feed the cables down but have hit this stumbling block

    Any help or advice appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jon

    Hi Jon,

Just to the right/left hand side of the stiching is a small channel where with enough determination you can pass a cable through. I did mine the other day and it's not easy. I ended cutting my plugs off and re soldering them back on once the cable was through but i did have to get them through the headrest posts too first which was the main reason.

  12. Must add - the screens are in now and looking good, kicking myself for not ordering the Veba's though as the Necvox are so deep they are a right pain to fit flush. Still plenty of faffing around and a few mods here and there and they are all sorted. Will get the pics up tomorrow with any luck.

  13. Not a fan of gtechniq yeh protects ok no better than Nanolex in my opinion but the looks isnt there its dull and boring.

I'm now back to using Zaino and now enjoy cleaning my car and its looking great and staying clean for longer.

The level of protection is unsurpassed though which is what i like about it. Here is a good test -

http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=159574 Nanolex and GTechniq were quite well matched but C1 just pipped it. The Zaino on the other hand was blown into the weeds by both! It's that age old discussion though of sealant versus wax, i like the natural look of a sealant but agree its not to everyones taste. Bit like silicon on dashboards!! :D

  14. This unfortunately is a side affect of a diamond cut alloy finish. Basically the lacquer has nothing to bind to resulting in the finish you are all seeing. I have had this a numorous cars but i have found a way to cure it happening :) You will need to get the rim refurbished but rather than spraying in a normal 2K lacquer you need to refinish with this instead - http://gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-yachts/exterior-coatings/s1-smart-metal-coating/ this is amazing stuff which etches itself on to the wheel surface preventing the peel. Lepsoms are now using this clearcoat and having great success with it. I would recommend GTechniq C5 though to anyone who has had their wheels replaced as this too is an amazing product and highly praised by those in the detailing world!

    I hope this helps :)

Edit - I must add this coating was borne from the marine industry where as you can imagine it has to stand up to a massive amount of salt damage.

  15. Well after 2 days of mopping the bodywork is looking really nice again. Got some major chipping over the front end so i think i'll paint it up. The front bumper lacquer has lifted in places too so i'll sort it all together. Very pleased with how she's looking now though. Got to do the G1,2 & 3 tomorrow as i lost the light today. Screens are going in on monday now too. Slowly coming together!
