Yes I would do that. It won't be long before it fails again if you don't
  2. TMB's post in Is something missing from this? was marked as the answer
Mine has the same holes. I think it's where the filter would be mounted on diesel models.

By the way, when you do this, be aware that when you remove the two screws, there is a loose plate with the threads on. It can sometimes fall out, so be careful not to lose it.

  5. TMB's post in How good is my car? was marked as the answer
I have the same model. The 8 valve OHV engine was carried over from the old Favorit and Felicia. In fact, it goes back even further than that to the old rear-engined Skodas! VAG did some modifications to the engine for use in the Fabia, including hydraulic valve lifters, so no need to adjust the valve clearances under normal circumstances. They are pretty slow due to their ancient design but are reliable enough if looked after. They are not particularly economical but are a lot better on a long motorway run. The gearbox is a VW unit. The rest of the car is pretty much the same as any other fabia - a decent, well-made but dull car (apart from the vRS).

I'm sure you know that they are more or less a VW Polo under the skin.

  8. TMB's post in Help rear brake line..... was marked as the answer
I have my own Sykes -Pickavant flaring tool but most motor factor shops will make up a brake pipe for you. They just need to know the length and what unions are on the ends. Obviously you'll need to bleed the brakes after fitting it. Ask for Kunifer (cupro nickel) pipe as it is corrosion resistant and the best stuff to use.

  10. TMB's post in identifying brake fluid type was marked as the answer
DOT 4 and 5.1 are polyethylene glycol based. DOT 5 is silicone-based and does not mix with the polyethylene glycol based fluids. All brake fluid is synthetic, putting 'synthetic' on the bottle is just a marketing ploy.

Check the fuses and fuse link strips on top of the battery. Look carefully at the fuse link strips as they can have hairline cracks which are not easy to see....

Look underneath and check that the alternator load sensing wires haven't snapped....

Check connection is clean and the nut is tight on negative lead from battery terminal to car body....

Charge the battery and start the car and check the alternator voltage output. If OK, suspect the battery.

Strange how your F4 wire is a different colour to what the Haynes manual says. Still, I suppose it's not known as 'The Haynes Book of Lies' for nothing.

Yes the red/black is a switched live to the interior lights (according to Haynes). If it's not being switched by the convenience unit then it will show as earth as it is earthing through the interior light bulbs. Seems that your convenience unit is faulty to me.

I have read that the convenience units do need coding but I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure someone else will confirm.
