  1. I too can provide a comparison as i have had my Golf GTE for a few weeks now and still have the VRS. As Pipsy says the overall build quality and feel is a lot better than the Octavia - which is should be as the retail price was about 10k more.

This car has LED headlights which are awesome but they don't move with the steering wheel which is something the VRS did which was really nice. I also miss the beep on locking as this was great in car parks. The screen in the GTE is much higher quality than the VRS, the pixel count is certainly higher though i can't comment on the latest VRS equipment.

I would certainly agree that you get a lot of Octavia for 25k but you certainly have no hope of retaining any of that value when it comes to selling. Mine has been on the market for a while now with very little serious interest and for the price I have it for sale now it is only £100 more than a similar spec MK2! The money its really the issue for me (although it hurts), but i think that the market is so flooded with MK3 Octavias that the second hand price value is completely ruined (and not representative of the true value) and if i didn't buy the Octavia at 0% it really would have been an awful financial mistake and I would advise people who only keep their car for a short while to avoid buying a new octavia.

  2. yep 38 is good for a roof box - i get about 36 with the mtn bikes on the roof of my vrs.

Although over the life of the car (18months or so) the average is 34 - so fairly happy with that - if the fuel tank wasn't so small i probably wouldn't notice but as it just makes 350 miles to a tank i do stop at the good ol' pump quite often...

  3. Blackline was a great bet....bargain new price and still holding their value well (I guess by inherrently being v good spec late model Mk2 TDI vRS and still in relative demand)...i did well on mine selling it after 12 months. Just do not expect the experience with the Mk3 to be the same. Had I known then what I know now I wouldnt have bought a mk3.

I agree but i just mentioned on the other topic, i have had a couple of cash offers of £16k - slightly below an 'excellent private sale' valuation. However, i only owe 15k and only put in a 1k deposit, so if i achieved 16k i would get my deposit money back and the monthlys i have paid were simply an interest free lease.

  4. Looking around the forums, There seems to be a few people selling year old cars for whatever reason, so yes its a buyers market atm.

I feel you pain, due to circumstances I need to change my 15 month old vRS to an auto and petrol.

I bought it cash and got a nice discount, on what was then a hard to get hold of car.

As with any new car, you lose 20% in vat as soon as its off the forecourt, and obviously the dealer needs to make their mark up on trade ins, so knock off ~3k for that.

not including the vat, I lost £2800 on my 6k miles, 15 month old vRS.

In fact I bet they make more on a year old trade in than selling new.

It might be a buyers market - but looking at Petrol VRS - there just aren't any Mk3's for sale in the UK.

From memory the Skoda website had 5 (and they are all roughly less than 1 year old) and auto trader has 2...

I can understand that octavia generally are two a penny second hand (thus pushing the used values down), but the type of person looking for a VRS specifically doesn't have much choice (for petrol)

  5. Thanks for the comments - it certainly seems that the 0% deal and a high list price has hurt the depreciation of the cars. My VRs was on the 0% deal and I'm not in neg equity (but it is close dependant on the sale price!)

I think the main thing is that i look at the car in the driveway and it looks gorgeous and is in perfect condition inside and out and then think to myself it must be worth more than £14500 - you can barely buy a new Peugeot for that! ;)

Certainly the second owner of a nearly new octavia gets a cracking deal as the depreciation must slow down after 20 months or so..

  6. Do you still have all the original parts for the car too?

Also, I see your advert says heated seats, I presume that means its got the winter pack / heated windscreen too?

Yes, I have all the original parts (springs and wheels - though these have the winter tyres on)

No winter pack, it was possible to have the heated seats without the heated screen - i think this has changed now...

  7. Im selling the car as i have a company car coming and i can't afford to run both - :(. She has done 31000 miles and is in excellent condition.

I would link to the auto trader ad but i fear this post would be pulled so a quick search of auto trader will find it as it is one of only two private VRS for sale in the UK!!!!!!

The car is white with black alloys (pics with roof bars) so should be a safe colour bet.

  8. I am in the process of selling my VRS and of course you look around to see what it available and price accordingly.

There are approximately 4 petrol VRS estates in the UK for sale on the Skoda website - most of them are under 1 year old. Mine is only 18months old or so and yet there are very few similar examples on the second hand market.

So when i got a 'free' valuation from WhatCar to give me an indication i chuckled at how low the valuation was (£14000). If this is accurate the VRS must be up there with the fastest depreciating cars out there! However, on reflection if there are little or no cars on the open market - surely the valuations cannot be accurate as there are simply not enough trades happening?

Anyone got ideas or do i sell my immaculate car with loads of extras for an absolute pound land price?

    Feeling :(

  9.

I will be getting rid of my Audi for a GTE too. Now they have upspecced it from BW26 I think. So you now get a 6.5" rather than 5.8" screen and car app support.

Looks like this but in Carbon Grey. Still miss my yellow vrs though. Just cost too much on a company car scheme.

You are right, confirmed by my dealer that the 'imminent' MY16 model does get a larger 6.5" screen. He says it is the only change for the new MY. Carnet is included already for three years.

So i miss out, but i will get my GTE before the main dealer gets their demonstrator! :):D

  10. Well the GTE is on the ship to Grimsby now, having been built in Germany.

Annoying to read that they are up speccing the screen - i will have to have a word with the dealer about that!

This is on a company lease - approx £300 p/m with 3 months upfront. As the Bik is only 5% and i can charge at the office (the tax man doesn't YET class staff using electricity as a BIK) this will be a lot cheaper than the VRS - though i am going to miss it as it is an awesome car

Definitely gonna miss the boot, but as it is normally full of dog crate the bikes, kayaks, skies etc already go on the roof so it shouldn't be too hard to adapt and the dogs don't get a say!

  11. My mk3 tsi has now covered almost 20k. Almost all of this mileage has been on 98 RON however my last two tank fills have been tesco 95 RON. I can feel the difference in throttle response up to circa 3k rpm. Car feels slightly heavier/sluggish in response however no real difference In mileage returns.

An easy way to describe the difference in throttle response would be the difference between standard and sport driving modes for the engine. Very noticeable to me but maybe not so to others. Worth an extra £3 per fill? Yes to me for the improved throttle reponse where the car is driven the most.

I have the same result as parsey - with 27k under the belt running on 99 for 90% of fill ups, it does seem to be more sluggish when running 95.

  12. I dont know if we have same track rules in uk as sweden,

Oil catch plate under engine, nothing but pure water in the cooler..

    Overkill:

    Toyo R888 semi slics,

    k-sport bigbrakes.

    Remove backseat and spare wheel..

If you got estate put two sandbags in the back, it will help your tale swoong in tight turns!

Last thing activate laptimer to trac best time and use G sensors to trace your bad/good brakepoints..

    Dont forget to have fun!

Thanks for this - sandbags in the boot - does anyone else do this in their estate on trackways? I used to do this with my Hilux so that i didn't drift round every roundabout in the wet!

  13. Another thing to consider is skoda / your dealer knowing your car and your profile on here, and reading your intent to take it on track. Taping over numberplate is a physical thing, you might need some forum sleuthing in your other posts if your reg number is showing. ;)

Yes you are right - better safe than sorry!

  14. Check all fluids, take spare.

    Check tracking.

    Empty the car.

Take a pressure gauge and compressor. Check Tyre pressure every time you come in while the tyres are warm. You'll probably have to let some air out of at least one tyre. As a starting point, I usually try the recommended tyre pressure when the tyres are hot.

    Instruction is worthwhile.

    Enjoy!

Thanks, yes have booked some instruction too..

So have lower PSI tyres when cold so that the hot temp is roughly the recommended pressure?

  15. Hi guys,

Taking the VRS on a novice trackday at Snetterton in a few weeks time.

Can someone give me a quick list of things to do / have on hand / car prep / advice when on track?

The car is stock (except K&N filter & H&R springs) and has 25K miles. Usual services have been done

Should i have the oil changed beforehand and perhaps get some DS2500 pads?

    Thanks!

    ....have taken trackday insurance ;0

  16. I have the SC2 also. I think the 5 is the same tread pattern, if it is then with 5 or 6 mm on the other rear I might risk getting just 1 new SC5, otherwise I'd replace the pair and eBay (or use the classifieds here) to sell the good sc2. Tbh, with 5mm left... I'd replace the pair.

While on sc2s, I know many on here have worn them out in 8 to 10 k miles on the front but I think mine are going to last easily twice that.  I've only covered 5200 so far but other than the shoulders they show hardly any wear.

I have had my SC2's since the cars delivery and they still have 4.5mm or so and i have done over 22,000 miles (however i also have winters so my milage on the SC2 must be around 14,000)
