I also agree, I travel to my place in France about 10 times a year. I have never bothered to use beam deflectors, and never had a problem - although I have used the high/low beam adjuster set to the lowest while driving in France. But I do like the intelligent lights on the vRS - without have to set it drive on the left- the beams seem to light the road just as if I had. It must work as even on normal roads I have not been flashed!!

Surely for it to be automatic you must have the navigation system?

  2. Hey Guys,

Have noticed that my TSI VRS (Man) has developed a fairly rough idle, regards of being cold or warm.

I only run it on VPower or Tesco 99, so I'm sure its not the fuel. Also replaced stock air filter with K&N one.

Have tried STP fuel system cleaner and this didn't make any difference.

The interesting thing is there is no obvious loss of power - the acceleration is smooth.

Have booked in for the skoda mechs to take a look tomorrow.

Anyone else experienced a rough idle with their TSI?

  3. So after a visit to my Skoda dealer to buy a Citigo (for the wives commute), we got chatting and they brought up that there was 'very likely' to be a new version of the octavia coming soon and would i like to be contacted when they have the information.

I said yes and asked what it was going to be (already having seen the new prototype pics and read the various reports about a new more powerful model). They said a 280ps version was 'very likely' to be on the horizon and that it may be 4x4 or the GTI dif to handle the extra power - they didn't know for sure.

    Exciting!

  4. Devices also 'talk' to the source of the power and can charge faster or slower dependant on the source and if it is 'approved'. The best example is trying to charge a blackberry on a iPhone charger and vice versa - blackberry only accepts some usb sources and actively tries to prevent other use (like the iPhone charger)

When you buy an external battery charger (like mophie), these have software written to 'talk' to the various types of device for the fastest charging....

That said, my iPhone charges from the usb port happily. The best thing i have discovered is that if you stick a 12v usb adapter (i use my tom-tom usb adapter) into the cigarette lighter you can leave your phone / iPad on charge overnight with the ignition off. This is great for camping. the dash usb doesn't work for very long after the ignition is off.

  5. Just had a quick look - nothing obvious, unless the plastic part should be behind the body panel? Can anyone confirm this?

At speed it is certainly possible for this plastic part to vibrate, so this could be the cause.

  6. I noticed the same on a courtesy car (Octy 3) used for 3 days.

I think it is the plastic cover (outside) at the bottom of the windscreen.

This cover ends has some curved limbs (or what) both left and ride side at the A pillars.

On that couresty car the left limb was in the air and didn't touch the windscreen.

I tried to bend it a little bit in many directions on the 3rd day morning and the noise was gone!

I think it was some resonation caused by this plastic. The noise came from the bottom left corner of the windscreen.

The story ends here because I gave back the car.

    Happily no problem with mine.

Apply some temporary adhesive tape there and let's see what happens...

Thank you for this - i will check this out this evening! I am hoping that it is something relatively simple!

  7. So, my car has developed an interesting wind noise rattle that starts once I am travelling over 65mph.

It seems to originate from the passenger fan outlet nearest the passenger door.

I have been unable (without removing panels) to locate the source of the noise but must assume that it is wind caused. If this is the case, what could it be.

The interesting side note is that i only noticed the noise after i had the windscreen replaced as it was cracked.

    Any ideas?

  8. The TSI is a good tourer - just did a 350 mile motorway journey and the experience was great. Looking forward to a 1900 mile roundtrip to Sweden. Germany's western de-restricted motorways are calling!

Last time i did this trip we had a diesel polo and only managed 115mph downhill with the wind behind. This time we should be looking at 140 - 150. Has anyone got near the top speed?

  9. Has anyone noticed that there is no specification for the oil type on the handbook for the TSI VRS?

My warning light came on after a trip to the lakes (270 miles) and i stopped at halfords, checked the book (which was useless for my engine) and then simply checked the type of oil required in store. Of course, the shops booklet didn't have info on the mk3 tai vas so i used the golf mk7 info.

Castrol Edge 5W-30. Topped up 1 litre - bit annoyed because a few miles after that my oil change / service light came on!

  10. Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if the wipers on the octy are the same as the ones on the mk7 golf?

I haven't been able to find any reference to the type of Bosch wipers that fit the octavia mk3 - Bosch haven't updated their catalog and therefore nor have halfords or many wiper blade websites.

However, the blades are listed for the mk7 golf and i presume would be a perfect fit.

    Anyone got experience?

  11. Hi All,

I was looking to buy the Thule Wingbar Edge 9582 for my VRS estate from Amazon as they have the same low price everyone else has and a great returns policy. Few questions to those in the know:

    1. Will these fit directly onto the roof bars on my vRS estate or do I need adaptors (if so, what)?
    2. They are required to carry a large roof box down to sud de la france and back twice a year. - was thinking the (overpriced) Thule Motion 900. How does this connect to these bars? Any adaptors required?
    3. The bars look very low profile - any clearance issues with the integrated radio/GPS aerial ontop?

    Thanks guys.

    1. Yes they will fit out of the box.

    2. If a thule roofbax, they will have 'T-Trac' adapters which slot into the groove on top of the bars

    3. I don't have an antenna, so cant answer the question but i don't think it would be a problem as the roof box will sit higher than the bars, which are already probably clear of the antenna.

  12. Wingbar Edge (in medium) fit the car, but are a very tight fit. This was the size recommended by Thule for the car. However, the fit is so much on the tight side that there are some positions you cannot get the bars to sit at. Though i don't know if the smaller size would be too small.

I bought the edge and thule outride bike mount and they all look awesome.

Really happy with the edge bars and will leave them on for most of the year. Absolutely no noise at most speeds - some wind noise at motorway speeds. Certainly no whistling!

I can say that with two bikes on the roof, there is some loss of mpg!

  13. I fitted front and rear mud flaps to my VRS within a couple weeks of getting the car. Big difference to mud spray on the bodywork.

I didn't drill holes like the instructions said - they are secure enough without.

I think they look great - getting the Turini matt black alloys on Monday (with summer tyres on) so will post a pic.

  14. Well thats what i thought, but then i compared beam whiteness and brightness while alongside other HID cars (BMW and Mercs) which appeared to be brighter and whiter. My assumption is that Skoda fit the run of the mill OEM bulbs and not Philips or Osram ones.

This is some of the blurb - which gives a good reason why other cars with the same headlight type appear brighter.

Alas, also figured out the size (i think) - D1S for the dipped and H1 for the full beam.
