  1. Hi folks I've been looking at buying new wheels for my mk2 octy pfl vrs. I will be lowering the car 20mm with the ST shocks and springs kit. The new wheels are 5x112, 18x8.5j et42. Are these wheels likely to cause me issues or would I be better looking for another set? Cheers, Kev.
  2. Hi and thanks for the replies. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to looking after my cars paint. I'll describe my amateur routine so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. 1. rinse with several buckets to wet the car and take off any loose dirt. 2. wash car with sponge using two buckets (one with soap and the other to rinse the sponge). 3. Rinse with a million buckets of water. 4. Dry car with Chamois. 5. Maybe once or twice a year polish by hand and apply armour all shield. My car is going to have some cosmetic treatment this year with at least a front end respray or a complete blow over, and I fully intend on upping my game and doing this properly to protect the paint, any advice welcome. Cheers, Kev.
  3. Hi folks, I live in an upstairs flat with no access to an outside tap and it's not practical to run a hose from the kitchen/bathroom tap. Is there a pressure washer on the market that anyone can recommend that has an on board tank or am I stuck with running up and down the stairs umpteen times to rinse the car? Cheers, Kev.
  4. Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm going for the eibach setup. Damian I'll be in touch over the coming weeks/months mate, I'm going to order a set of the kw v1s from you too as soon as funds are available.
  5. Hi everyone, I'm looking at fitting some decent upgrades for my vrs and one of the common parts to fit being the rear arb and uprating the front. The neuspeed 28mm is £340 from awesome and I've still to find a price for the r32 front (I've heard around £150?) So will cost about £500 ish. My question is would I be better off fitting the eibach anti roll bar kit (22mm front and 25mm rear) from dpm at a cost of £325? Would I notice much difference between these setups? I'm also going to fit superpro bushes to everything I can and couple this with kw v1s (car is for road use only) Any other ideas welcome, Cheers, Kev.
  6. Well it's been a while since I updated this and I'd had a change of heart many a time but I've since decided to keep her and give her a decent refresh all over. Work done since the clutch has consisted of only maintenance but here's a wee list of the parts changed that I can remember:- Thermostat and coolant. Aircon recharge. Full laser wheel alignment/geometry check. Rear shocks. Rear spring. Discs and pads all round. Abs sensors. Brake lines all round. Battery. I'm currently in the process of getting the required funds to add some proper performance parts for the car, here they are in no particular order:- Coilovers/uprated shocks and springs. Superpro bushes all round. Front and rear anti rollbars. Supersize tip. Welly cooler. Stage 2 remap. Lsd, quaife/wavetrac. Bodywork/respray. Still undecided:- Front brake upgrade/brembo's? Wheels/bbs/compomotive/3sdm? Wheel spacers? Lots more to come, I'll keep this up to date as things start to appear.
  7. It has to remain a daily mate although my work is only about 6 miles away so should keep the miles down, I average about 6k a year. The idea is plenty fun mods to keep me busy and keeping up with maintenance etc at the same time, I can rely on a lift when the car would need to be off the road for the more lengthy upgrades too so that's a bonus.
  8. Thanks for all the replies everyone, you've all made some very valid points and I appreciate you all taking the time to respond. I think I'm going to keep the octy and finish what I've started. Give the car a new lease of life and fit some more decent mods. I'll update my build thread and keep my eyes peeled for upgrades in the coming weeks and months. Any pointers for parts suppliers welcome, I'll be looking at decent suspension/coilovers (dpm seem pretty competitive), welly cooler and pipework (eBay?), superpro bushes for everything, wavetrac or quaife lsd, supersize tip and any other parts recommended?
  9. I hear you mate, never getting the cash back. I bought the car for a grand back in Nov 2013 and have since spent about £3-4k in that time just keeping it on the road and upgrading areas as they failed, hence uprated clutch, exhaust etc but no mapping yet. I'm not too bothered about not getting the money return on it, especially as I'd lose it on depreciation on a newer replacement, I'm more interested in which choice is the best way to have a good time driving over the next few years. A standard ish newer example like i mentioned above or a more focused/tweaked octy?
  10. Hi folks, as the title says I've got a decision to make and I'm not sure which way to go. My octy vrs is a 51 plate with 106k and has some mods fitted under my ownership (vr6 clutch/ecs lightweight flywheel, ramair intake, turbo back 2.5" piper exhaust with matching sport cat) but to my knowledge hasn't been mapped yet. The car as it stands is mechanically sound, I only do about 6k miles a year and only has a few small age/vag related niggles but the bodywork is letting it down (front end laquer peel/ 1 rusty front wing at the bottom needing replaced but the other wing might be salvageable) and will need a respray once the small bodywork issues are resolved. So here's my two options in no particular order:- Option 1: save for a new car (would be the end of 2017 at the very earliest, I don't do tick/brighthouse/borrow beyond my means to keep up with the jones') with a budget of £6k, cars I had been considering are mk5 golf gti, mk2 Leon cupra, mk2/face-lift octy, bmw 130i, i know at this money some of these would be leggy examples though which brings me to option 2. Option 2:- spend around £3-4k on the octy, get it to stage 2, add a few other mods (wavetrac lsd?) and bodywork sorted and be able to eat properly/go on holiday/not have to sell the wife and kids. Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers, Kev.
  11. November 2013, I had changed jobs in the March of the same year where my weekly commute went from 300 miles down to 100, which meant I could rid myself of my mk1 Ford focus 1.6 zetec and buy something a bit more respectable My budget at the time was only £1500 as I'd got impatient and was just desperate to end my daily despair of driving that Ford turd. I narrowed the search down to having a small mk4 platform car with a 1.8t 20v, my first choice was a Leon cupra, but the wife hated it and I couldn't afford a cupra r. Next up was an a3 but they were all really rough for that money and the same with the golf, all full of ripspeed tat and looked ragged to bits. So I'd basically given up and resigned myself to driving that rolling scrapheap until I could afford a decent mk4 vag car. But, then a mate of mine who buys and sells cars for a small profit acquired a red mk1 Octavia vrs. The car was a 51 plate with 87k miles, service history with lots of receipts. He put it through an mot which only needed £38 of parts. The car had already been offered to 2 members of my mates family, so I had to sit and wait a few days while they made up their minds. To my surprise they turned it down. "Give me a grand and its yours" he said. Result I couldn't and still can't believe how much car I got for the money, and can't believe how I overlooked the Octavia in the first place, I love my car and I don't even flinch when it needs something as it owes me nothing. I've got lots of mods to do to the car and have fitted quite a few already so don't see me selling anytime soon
  12. E30 part due to my past addiction to owning e30 bmws (when bmw made real cars with character and actually made to last), and Kev is my first name. I've used the same name in other forums too.
  13. Why not just buy a new revised oem dv which is maintenance free, doesn't need faffing about with springs and is a lot cheaper leaving you spare cash to put to more mods? Unless of course you do need the bling. I'm also going stage 2, and will be renewing the oem dv with the revised version as a piece of mind measure
  14. Hankook v12 evo2s fitted all round, 205/50/17. Piper ss exhaust, turbo back including sport cat. Ecs clutch kit with lightweight flywheel.
