  1. I wouldn't have thought they'd charge you to cancel, you just wouldn't get any refund. Phone them and ask.
  2. Ordered the unpainted one from VW spares. Trust them more than an eBay part seller. And it's already been dispatched and should arrive tomorrow.
  3. If you're considering windows you may as well wait for windows 8.
  4. It was more just to check that the vRS specific rears weren't hatch only or something daft like that and that I should be ordering normal estate ones. Guess I need to get off my bum and install xp and etka on my pc.
  5. My drivers side rear caliper has started leaking brake fluid out of the handbrake mech so I need to replace it. I've been looking at parts on eBay and VW Spares and have come up with some different part numbers. The one on eBay is equivalent to - 1U0615424 The one on VW Spares is equivalent to - 8N0615424C Will there be any difference? The eBay one comes pre-painted and works out slightly cheaper once postage is taken into account but I don't want to order the wrong bit. Car is a 2005 mk1 vRS estate.
  6. Just got my infinity 2 connection sorted today. Pretty happy with that! Hope speed doesn't drop off during the 10 day learning period.
  7. I think my Octy vRS Estate has snapped a rear spring (not gotten under to double check but fingers between tyres & wheel arches suggests the drivers side rear has given way) and I figure I may as well replace the whole lot if I'm doing one. Car's got 125k miles on it and has been feeling a bit saggy so it'll probably benefit. I replaced all the shocks about 15k miles ago so want to remain on standard shocks and I'm just trying to decide on springs. I don't really want a big drop as it's can be a bit of a pain with the front bumper as it is so ideally no more than 20mm. H&R seem the obvious choice but I wondered how many people run them on standard shocks and what the rides like and if anyone else can suggest an alternative? Money is a consideration so I can't really justify swapping to coilovers etc. Thanks!
  8. I can set the Edimax up as a DHCP server (which I've tried but still suffer the issue) but it only has fairly basic settings. The Edimax is linked wirelessly to the Sky router (which has no wired connections attached whatsoever). I've not encountered any NAT issues using it (the xbox and PS3 haven't reported any NAT issues anyway). It just seems like the Edimax is broadcasting it's own MAC address for everything attached to it which seems a bit odd. I'm tempted to look into the plug setup but it starts to get a bit messy... Sky router to plug downstairs to plug upstairs to switch to devices! Compared to my current setup of router to AP which shares the internet connection fine but for some reason suffers this MAC issue which won't let me stream! I'm starting to think it's a hardware limitation. This is the only page of the Router setup that I don't understand the majority of the settings on... Is something enabled that shouldn't be?
  9. Yes, wired streaming through the switch fails. Whether it's between the PS3 or Xbox. The PS3 I can workaround by using the built in wireless adapter but I don't have that luxury on the xbox. Below is a screen print how the router sees the connections (PC is .03, Xbox .04 and PS3 .07, AP is .20): Someone on another forum has suggested it could be to do with LAN subnets and the router and AP using the same one. The router shows as 192.168.0.1:80 when I log in and the AP shows as 192.168.0.20:80. Any ideas how I would amend the subnets they use?
  10. I've tried changing it over into Wireless Repeater mode but that doesn't seem to solve the issue. I was wondering if there was a way that I could get the AP to handle the routing? If I set the AP to be the DHCP controller so it was assigning IP addresses would that do it? Then it could be the single connection to the router downstairs and all my other devices would work through the AP.
  11. It's in infrastructure mode at present. Ive done a hard reset and also updated the firmware to the newest version. I tested this morning and the ps3 won't stream from the pc when using the wired connection but if I swap to wireless to run off the router downstairs it works and finds the pc as a media server. I don't have a wireless adapter for the xbox so can't try that.
  12. It's an Edimax ew-7228apn. And yes the mac address you've posted is the AP's address. It has a 4 port switch built in, each port is filled (printer,pc,ps3,xbox).
  13. Just googled WPS. The AP has it but I disabled it last night as it seemed to be restricting my access to the AP through an IP address forcing me to use the setup cd which doesn't have full options. I can't find anything related to WPS on my sky router.
  14. I don't know what WPS is I'm afraid. Could you explain and I'll check? I've never altered the MAC addresses on anything (until playing around last night but they're all back to there defaults now). The MAC address shown in the connection details is the access points mac address. There doesnt seem to be any sort of setting on the AP to do with MAC addresses other than security wise for sharing the wireless signal if I was using it as an access point.
  15. It may just be something I have to live with but I have a problem with MAC addresses. Mainly that my PC and xbox seem to share one and won't allow me to stream media between the two. The background is that I have with a wireless access point which is set in infrastructure mode to provide a wireless link between my router downstairs and all my wired hardware upstairs (xbox, ps3, pc). These 3 devices are all plugged directly into the access point which is then connected to the router downstairs. The problem is that the router downstairs sees all the devices as sharing the same MAC address, namely the access points. So when I check the Attached Devices page on my Sky router it shows the different IP addresses but the same MAC: # IP Address Device Name MAC Address 1 192.168.0.2(AP) UNKNOWN 80:1F:02:09:BB:F6 2 192.168.0.100(xbox) UNKNOWN 80:1F:02:09:BB:F6 3 192.168.0.101(PC) GOLIATH2 80:1F:02:09:BB:F6 I've tried enabling the access point as a DHCP server but that doesn't seem to have solved my problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's not vital but I would like to be able to stream media if at all possible!
  16. Overnight the Fabia seems to have developed an issue and I don't know if it's just because it got wet or doesn't like gravel... :wonder: it was fine yesterday but I usually park either on tarmac or put it in the garage but I parked it on the gravel overnight and now it has a couple of warning lamps on! I went out in it this morning and when I got on to the dual carriageway the ABS and TCS light came on. It only seems to trigger the lights once speeds exceed 30-40mph (I haven't watched to see exactly what speed causes the lights to come one but they're definitely not on when I'm doing 30mph). If I turn the ignition off and back on the lights illuminate until I drive off and then they go out. Until my speed exceeds whatever speed it is that causes the lights to re-illuminate. Is it likely to just be an ABS sensor or could something else be causing it?
  17. Ah so streaming will be no different then as I'll still have the wired connection between all the devices upstairs. Excellent!
  18. I wouldn't be running it alongside power until it gets behind the TV so that's not too much of an issue. I've ordered the wireless access point for ease at the moment as it seemed the cheapest and easiest solution as I don't use my network for much more than providing broadband to all the devices that utilise it. One question I've got... is a switch different to a router? I'll have my PC, PS3 and Xbox all plugged into the switch that's on the wireless access point. If I'm streaming music from my PC to my Xbox will it just use the switch or will it have to send the communication through the router?
  19. The screen on the Ace is quite low resolution. If you do even a moderate amount of web browsing on your phone I would avoid.
  20. I thought about home plugs but I'm trying to do it as cheaply as possible. I don't think bandwidth would be too much of an issue though as I only get about 3 meg broadband anyway and don't tend to do that much streaming between devices. G should give me up to 54mbps shouldn't it? I think my sky router only supports B+G, not N.
  21. My internet connection has been unstable for a while now and I think it's due to my internal wiring so I want to move the modem-router downstairs so I can plug it directly into the main socket. However my xbox, ps3 and pc are all upstairs and I would prefer a wired connection to them if at all possible. I had a look in B&Q and a home networking kit with 50m of CAT5 is about £37 but if ii'm thinking correctly I'll need to purchase a network switch as well to run 3 wired connections off a single CAT5 cable running from the router upstairs to the bedroom so an additional outlay on the costs of setting it all up. Does anyone have an alternative solution that I've not thought of? Quick bit of searching and it looks like one of these would do the job... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edimax-EW-7228APN-150mbps-Extender-5-Port/dp/B004JV42A0/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1308762253&sr=1-3 Would it?
