  1. Was thinking of getting rid of my MK1 Vrs combi a couple of months ago as the milage was getting hi (now 150k) but was still running strong with no real issues and so decided to keep and spend a little money on her. 2 new driveshafts 2 new front wheel bearings timing belt and tensioner and while doing this noticed the cat was split where the mesh part runs into the pipe. Bought a new cat from automotive online and this is where the problems started. Cat fitted no worries and was the correct one for a VRS as it was checked twice on there datebase. Within 50 miles the engine management light came on. As I have no code reader I changed the rear lamba sensor and cleaned the MAF sensor and cleared the faults. Once again within 50 miles its back on again. Car runs fine no hunting or misfires and still returns a good MPG. Will now order the front lamba and see if this changes anything but slowly getting very ****ed with it and just wanted to know if anyone has a similar problem that they sorted.
  2. To all the doubters yes they do fit. So if you need MK1 wheel hubs and trust me there rocking horse “””” to get hold of grab a cupra r of the same year happy as Larry
  3. While changing the front drive shafts on my vrs MK 1 the lug on the nearside hub which the calliper attaches too snapped. I cannot find a secondhand one for love nor money and so the question is will a cupra R one fit from the same year which I can find.???
  4. Guys my vrs mk1 needs a new hub assembly as the lug which the calliper fits too has. Snapped I have a breakers down the road that has an identical year cupra r would this fit ???? Any geniuses out there that can help ??
  5. I found a thread ages ago about retro fitting cruise on a mk1 but for the life of me now cannot find it. How is it done guys and also my bloody rear wiper is no longer intermittent is this an easy fix.
  6. Just jumped in my old girl and sounds like the start of a wheel bearing starting to rumble. quick question do you need a press to release the front or rear bearings or can I use the trusted large socket and hammer to release it !! Not sure which one it is yet but before I start planning next weekends little jobs I want to make sure I can do it before stripping the wheels off.
  7. Wow what the hell this has just put me off a newer model straight away as they are in the price range I’m looking at. How could it have gone so wrong
  8. Well done lingers2k you win first prize. Just looked them up on the World Wide Web and there they are. Only available from the states though by the look of it
  9. Cheers Jr might take you up on that as I really cannot adjust mine anymore and with the self level motors they are all over the place. Don’t suppose there should be any issues changing them over to halogen lamps ?
  10. Now I’ve decided to keep my 2004 vrs estate I need to do a couple of jobs. Roof has large scratch in it so am thinking of carbon wrapping it next front seat has lost some of its support so wondering if anyone has retro fitted the later vrs seats into a earlier model and finally my headlights need replacing as the adjusters are all knackered however I’m finding it really hard to find a second set as mine look different to all the ones I can find. Are mine mk 1 or mark 2
  11. Thanks for all the feedback guys so it looks like a keeper now. Body work is good it will need the front valence and bonnet blowing over as well and I may refurb the original alloys. Not sure about the lock and mirror issue lived with it for 4 years so may just let that one ride as electrical issues are not my cup of tea, all electricians are wizards as far as I am concerned and should be burned at the stake
  12. Glad yours is cracking on as well this is the problem there is nothing I want to replace it with so i think she’s a keeper she’s just turned 147000 and still rolling so mission is now to see that 200000 as well
  13. thanks will for the sake of 20 quid give it a go, didnt believe it was a recode job but just thought I would ask thanks
  14. Just a quick check as I had roughly the same problem on my estate and I thought it was a coil pack starting to break down as the problem was lumpy when pulling away but as you drove it harder it went. When I serviced it I found that somehow a plug had started to unwind in the head and once a new set was put in and tightened down the problem went and now she is as good as new. For the sake of 5 mins just check that all the plugs are tight.
