There is no reason why a new model should be more expensive than the old. I do not agree with the view that the new Octy is a better car therefore it should be dearer. The competition have also moved on, the Octy should be priced to remain competitive, which it is not. I recently was offered a brand new passat Tdi (base trim) for less than the list price of the cheapest Octy II Tdi (this was from a main VW dealer).
Fully agree. There's no doubt the new Octy looks a good car but it's no longer as competitively priced as it was. I think Skoda may be shooting themselves in the foot and could kill off the impetus they had in the market. Did I not read somewhere (may have been a few months ago) that Skoda sales had actually fallen after a long period of increasing sales.
My uncle went to buy an Octavia but instead bought a Mazda 6 as he could get a better "cost to change" price than Skoda dealers would offer

Nope, that was my second thought after the seat belt clips. The seats are sitting very securely with no play in them at all
Will have to take it out at the w/end and investigate where it is coming from. Wherever, it was getting pretty annoying yesterday
-
I think as the badge prejudice diminishes the price will rapidly increase.
I bought an Octy vRS three years ago as it was good, solid car comparable to the Golf GTi etc but it was a lot cheaper. I suffered all the old Skoda gags but everyone that has been in it has been impressed. My wife has just bought a Fab vRS, again because compared to similar models from other manufacturers it is good value for the performance and build quality (though it looks like the Fiesta ST may be quite competitively priced when it comes out and we got in pre

Seat belt buckles was my first thought but it wasn't that - they are both sitting against the seats.
Will put the seats down at the w/end and drive it around to see if I can hear more clearly where it's coming from

Took the new vRS out for its first long spin today (been too busy playing with Mrs Rondo's Fab vRS up til now
) and noticed an odd noise
Every so often there is what I can only describe as a clunk noise from somewhere on the rear passenger side. It sometimes happens going round a (or coming off a) roundabout or sometimes if I go over a bump (noticed it on rumble strips) but not all the time. It's not a creak or a rattle just a single clunk. At one point I thought it may be something in the boot but it sounds more like it's coming from around the rear door area or even the wheel. Tried rocking the car up and down and side to side but can't force it to happen.
Anyone got any ideas????

I used Blackcircles the last two times for tyres and found them to be very good. They supply the tyres to local fitters who fit them on behalf of Blackcircles

My father in law sent me a newspaper cutting a couple of weeks ago re an article on Super unleadeds (Optimax / Ultimate). A ford focus was tested on a rolling road with a gallon of unleaded then a gallon of optimax then a gallon of BP Ultimate. The tests for BHP/Torque etc were identical for all 3
The article did have a comment that modern engines adjust the timing for the petrol being used so that no matter whether it was standard or super the output would be the same. However, it also had comments from BP/Shell along the lines that Optimax/Ultimate keep the engine cleaner so that over time they are better.
I have to say that I have never seen any difference when using Optimax but with BP Ultimate I do seem to get 1-2mpg better though performance is no different

Cheers - think I will get some and give it a try

I have studied the manual very closely but I can't find it anywhere. In its appaling English translation it makes reference to setting the time and RDS stations automatically updating it but nowhere can I find how to show the time - am I being stupid?
-
Just wondered if this was any good and whether it has any effect on the materials it is applied to? My wife is concerned that applying it to the light grey seats/carpets will affect the colour.
-
Does anyone know the answer to the original question as I would also find it useful to show the time on the radio. It allows you to set the time but I can't find any way of showing it - bizarre or what???
-
Had my Octy RS for 3 years and it was always L=L and R=R until Friday when my wife noticed that L=L and R=L+R. Picked my new one up on Saturday and mirrors operate L=L and R=R

Have been speaking to a couple of dealers over the last couple of weeks about the possibility of a new vRS. Dealers have been told they can order the old model until until May 05 and they do not expect the new model to be released til very late 05. They have not been told that there definately will be a vRS of the new model as it is no longer required as the Octy is no longer used for WRC. However, general consensus is that Skoda will do something but that it will more than likely be a tweaked 2.0 TDi unit
-
Cheers for the response. Confirms what I thought - On the Fabia most is standard but on the Octy only the mats and wheel nuts.
-
Can anyone tell me whether the following are standard on an Octy vRS or whether they are "extras". Dealer claimed not to know which makes me think they are standard and he wants me to think he's a good chap for throwing them in
vRS mats
locking wheel nuts
door sill covers (do they do them with the vRS logo?)
mudflaps
Is the spare steel or alloy?
Similarly for the Furby vRS?
-
Maybe my deal is not too bad then
-
What is cost price for a Fab vRS. Did a trawl of dealers yesterday. Lowest I could get for a silver one was
-
How spooky is that, having posted 4 days ago, the bloody thing came on again this afternoon. Took it into the dealer - fault codes 17705 P1297 Connection charger-throttle valve. Pressure drop and 17545 P1137 BAnk 1, mixture adaption (add.) system too rich (which is the one that came up last time)
-
Around us the CTR seems extremely popular but the dealer could have got us one within 4 weeks though as above not a penny discount - the wife was put off by the fact it is becoming such a common car round here and by some friends of friends who had their back door kicked in one night while lying in bed by TWOCers who took the keys then the car off the drive. Picking the demo Fabia up tonight so she can take it for a long drive tomorrow
-
Skoda will eventually shed their reputation and be up there charging through the roof like other manufacturers eventually so y not soak it up while they are cheap
My thoughts exactly - looking at the new Octy price list I would say the prices are already creeping up but still good value and don't know how a lot of VW/Audi owners can justify the cost of their cars
-
On the subject of basic questions - keys
The brochure suggests it comes with one of the chunky "flick" keys with remote and one without the remote. Is that correct? If so, if the car is locked with the remote can it be unlocked/unalarmed etc with the non remote key? Apologies if that sounds stupid
1.8T RS or 1.8 vRS (2004) ?

Can only think that Direct Line are a bit confused and one is the hatch and one the estate? When I was trawling for quotes and put in the Reg that was the usual option that came up on sites. Can't think of anything else
