  1. Today was the first day I got a chance to give the car a good wash and polish....I got a Autoglym hamper for Christmas and they are a good product overall...

I have a new Black 230 arriving in June and I'm beginning to wonder if I should have stuck with white... :D :D :D :D

  2. We found on our trip to scotland from devon and back, that the vRS felt better fully loaded than without anything in the boot at all.

Have to agree, I found it the same fully loaded, forget about expensive mods to the suspension, just chuck two bags of cement into the boot and away you go. :D

  3. Just back from our annual trip to the Course de côte de Saint-Gouëno in France, I covered about 2900km's and the VRS preformed perfectly. I was fully loaded down and had a roof box too; the rails are Lidl's finest and worked as they should.

I used a Garmin SatNav and it never put a foot wrong...the VRS just munched the miles effortlessly on the motorway, the weather wasn't really kind to us, but we are used to rain at home :):rain:

While I was there I stuck in some 98 Ron unleaded to see what difference if any, I didn't really notice anything on a short trip. But I did return a respectable 38mpg overall, not bad considering its a Turbo petrol and the car was well loaded down, Especially on the way back after a trip to Auchan :D

The picture is from the Paddock in Saint-Gouéno and the Radical behind me is one of the Team Ireland cars. (Mods feel free to remove the pic if deemed Inappropriate)

  4. After almost twelve months of ownership I decided to do a mini report.

SPEC: Octavia VRS TSI Estate white, Black pack and rear tints.

I have just done the first 10K miles service and the engine used no oil from new, I was checking it manually once a week. No faults were reported or found. It will need new tyres on the front shortly, and I’ll stick with the Bridgestone’s as fitted as they are good all rounder’s.

M.P.G for the clock watchers…well if you drive like a granny you can easily achieve 44+ m.p.g, but where’s the fun in that.

On the road the TSI engine goes like stink, and you can leave most other drivers feeling like they are in reverse as you pull away out of sight. Yes, an estate that accelerates that fast does leave them wondering. Get her rolling in second and red line it all the way through the gears and you’ll know what I mean!

Handling though is not its strong point, under hard acceleration you can get Tramping and it rolls a fair bit in the corners. The standard Brake’s on the car are adequate, however, I had four –pot Brembo callipers in my 159 Ti and the braking was much better and the pedal travel a lot less.

On the road it’s an excellent mile muncher, I found even after a long stint behind the wheel I was still feeling fresh. The boot can swallow a fair bit even without the seats down; with them down you can practically lug most large items with ease. I love the little things like been able to change the lights for driving in Europe...lots of "Well, they have thought about everything" moments even after a year.

Would I buy another…well yes, and it would be another TSI. I drove diesels for years and will never go back. If I was going to keep her I would definitely sort the handling and brake’s, and maybe add a few extra BHP with Bluefin etc. We’ll see how it goes.

    That’s about it…

  5. I had a run last week to pick up some materials for a wardrobe I was building at home. It was pouring rain so I left off the roofbars and loaded the 8’X24” sheets into the back. They stuck out by a foot or so and I fastened the tailgate securely.

I was driving along and boy does she sound good when you hold a gear longer, it has a very subtle growl from the back. Nice, very nice.

Tell you one thing, if you get a nice rolling start from first, boy does she fly..whooo hoooo

i should say its a VRS TSI combi

  6. I had been driving diesel's for over ten years before I bought my VRS Tsi and I can tell you I won't be going back to diesel again in a hurry. A petrol car is just that much better to drive, and if you don't do a lot of miles, well then you should opt for the petrol engine. A lot of folks here are getting good MPG from that engine.

Best of luck with choice and happy motoring :)

  7. My TSI (same box i guess) is the same although going from 6th to 3rd can be a bit wooly i find, but overall i find it good, my 159's were very clunky at times when you changed gears. I was wondering if you could get a short shift conversion for it as it might make for more positived gear changes.

Still its a wonderful car and it can gobble tarmac at a high rate of knots when you push on, i've not red lined it yet as its only done 3000Km but coming off the slip road onto the m-way in third she hit 158Kph very quickly and was still pulling hard when i eased off and changed up. A FireFox moment for sure "Boy is this a machine" to quote Eastwood. :)

  8. Time for a final update on the French trip, I had no internet access while in St Gouéno at the Hillclimb and its being hectic since we got back…

The car is a joy to drive and you can leave most others in a cloud of smoke behind if you wish, in France it was effortless cruising on the M-Way at 130Kph and very comfortable too.

The car attracted a lot of attention where ever we parked, I even had the boys in Blue follow me out of Cherbourg and shadow me for a few Km’s in the outside lane a few hundred mtrs back, I suppose when they saw I was not misbehaving they finally overtook us and my daughter waved to them and they waved back!

MPG wise it was telling me I was doing 37-38 MPG, which for a new car I think its good, I got 42 MPG today just poodling about..

While in France we visited UTAH Beach and at one stage we were in the middle of a convoy of American trucks with troops onboard, and every junction had MP’s on duty, it was like being back in 1944, spooky, we also stopped by Le Mont Saint Michel stunning views.

We also visited the car museum at LoHeac and its amazing well worth a visit, we stopped by a Tank museum and you never really realise just how big a Tank is until you are beside it, the Panzer was massive in size..

I was only just back when we had a 3am dash to hospital with my daughter who gave birth to our granddaughter just after 6am and the car was exceptional!!

Overall the VRS is an excellent machine in everyway  and I can’t fault it in anyway, and with the seats down it makes a ok B&B

For those who want see what we got up to in St Gouéno the pictures are here…

  9. After a smooth ferry crossing to Cherbourg we set off down through France and the VRS has munched through the miles effortlessly, the only alarm so far was the tyre pressure warning came on, I put in a few pounds and all has been well since.

MPG is surprisingly good on the M-Way doing 130Kph she was doing about 33 to the gallon, power wise the TSI engine is a peach, she can really shift when she wants to, but as ever I am letting the engine bed in and not ragging it.

I hope to add a few more pix over the next few days and keep you updated on the VRS performance.

  10. After a long wait (Ordered second week of January) my VRS TSI is here, and definitely white for me was the way to go, I started her up and I had forgotten how good a petrol engine sounds from the outside even ticking over there is a subtle growl from the exhaust.

Just the final paperwork and Plates and away we can go…

They are definitely well worth waiting for folks…

Just a phone pic for now, more later when she’s home…
