  1. Just to add, at that point they had also changed the shape of the plug (inside the rear wheel arch) on the towbar prep as well as the module interface to match it. Maybe this was/is to avoid the confusion between the two systems, one with the caravan electrics requirement (extra wire) and one without.

P.S. yes Andy the module is part of the additional loom (as in the bit you would need to buy not the prep).

  2. No module, just the wiring loom for the standard trailer (not caravan) electrics from the fusebox to the n/s/r quarter panel ready for the module and loom to the socket to be fitted.

Either that or my towbar prep is missing a trailer module :(

I'll check my boot sticker for the PR code tomorrow.

We (me and the towbar man) found that on my June 2014 car (MY15 ??) that I had ordered with Tow Bar Prep didn't actually need the extra wire from PF Jones to make the caravan electrics operate. I informed PF Jones of this and they no longer supply the additional cable (from what I understand anyway).

  3. I use Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 225/40 R18 with rim protection on my 18" Turini all year round.

They might be slightly on the softer side but then they are EfficientGrip! And they do grab very nicely when pushed into corners.

They are also one of the quietest rated and also not bad economy rated, so whereas other tyres might last longer, these might be cheaper to run in the long run.

  4. It's because you're using a Mac - it puts a bunch of hidden files on there which the head unit doesn't understand - happened to me. There's a link on here somewhere that explains what to do... I'll try and dig it out for you..

Here you go - exact same issue and my fix post no.22

    http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/294660-nov-2013-amundsen-update-bug/?hl=%2Bmac#entry4373714

    Thanks for the replies.

I used my VIN number for the download so hopefully the files are correct.

I also have hidden files visible all the time and carefully deleted the two files from the card and replaced with the two identical named files.

I'll have a read of the links you have provided and see if the suggestions work.

    Thanks again.

  5. I updated to the latest 2016 mapping over the weekend but have noticed that there are now a lot of blank rectangles all over the screen.

Any ideas as to what hasn't updated correctly?

I downloaded the maps on to my MacBook Pro. Unzipped the contents. Deleted the 2 files on the SD Card and replaced them with the 2 new files from the download.

I'll do a screenshot if nobody has a clue what I am talking about!

    :-)

  6. hi may I ask what bike rack you have there as I'm debating getting a roof mounted bike carrier or a rear mounted one. Apologies if I'm hijacking the thread.

It's an Atera Strada DL from RoofBox.co.uk - great rack that slides back and takes the weight of the bikes all the time. Leaves easy access to the back too. It also fits neatly in the boot if you park in a car park then go riding so it doesn't get knocked.

Not cheap but you will burn fuel with bikes on the roof. I don't notice any real slip in economy with them on the tow bar.

  7. I assume your Combi has the roof rails on it?

I just bought a set of these:

120cm Universal Fit Black Alloy Aero Locking Car Roof Bars Rack/Rails Bike/Box

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120cm-Universal-Fit-Black-Alloy-Aero-Locking-Car-Roof-Bars-Rack-Rails-Bike-Box-/321726618475?hash=item4ae8669b6b:g:VZMAAOSwLVZVksJ-

Then borrowed a friends Thule Atlantis 750 and fastened it on top. Carried it pretty much full including a wooden baby cot from Leeds to Edinburgh no problem.

Here's a picture loaded up and ready to roll. SWMBO looks happy at least!

  8. I love my 1.6 TDi Elegance.

My previous vehicle was a tuned 2.5Tdi Transporter. Fast as f**k, but could barely manage 30mpg, cost over £500 p/a to insure and a whopping £270 in VED. The criteria for the new vehicle (with a baby on the way) was based more on the economy, insurance and potential VED cost factors and trying to drive down the cost of motoring.

Having said that, the 1.6 has never let us down and although it isn't going to win a race from the lights, or blow the the power boys of my bumper on the motorway, it has coped with everything we have thrown at it and I wouldn't describe it as sluggish by any means, even fully loaded with a roofbox and bikes on the back.

The simplest thing would be to take a test drive of both ensuring it has a bit of motorway in it. I tested the 1.6TDi first and didn't bother testing the 2.0 as it met my requirements.

Only you will know if it meets yours and whether you might be disappointed or not.

    :-)

  9. So someone kindly drove into my bike rack smashing one corner of it (and the light unit) and bending the outer bike rail. The impact also made the rack swing round and make a small indent in the rear bumper and remove about an inch square of paint. Looks a bit tatty now!

The bumper isn't cracked but there is a small dent which I am more than sure can be taken care of with a light fill.

Question is, who can I trust in Leeds to take care of the minor repair and give it a spray (Race Blue Metallic)?

And I how much so you reckon I should be paying?

  10. My question is what has

    airscool

    gone for?

Well after the lively debate I am still very interested in one! I need to get down to the local Skoda Stealer and have a good look round both the Spaceback and the Saloon and at least test drive the 1.2 TDi engine.

Shame we can't afford a new, or a very nearly new one, but we're not in a huge rush so maybe we can get a good deal in the run up to Christmas on a 2014 model.

Does anybody know what improvements came on board during last summer - and also what I might be missing not buying new? I'll probably look towards the SE when making a choice unles an Elegance pops up at the right price.

  11. Thanks all.

And yes sorry I should have stated a budget, 8-9K is the ball park figure we had in mind (reduced a bit by the Polo trade in), hence moving from looking at the New Fabia to the new shape Rapid in our search. We don't want finance to buy a newer car as we already have finance on the Octavia.

We have a 6 month old daughter who will eventually move to a larger car seat so we want 5 doors and ISOFIX so we can easily swap between whatever it is and the Octavia. It will also need to fit the pram in for now and a buggy later. We might also want to put a detachable towbar on it to take the bike rack we use on the Octavia. It will be used for 4 days urban and then 3 days 50 mile round trip commute at a max of about 60 mph, so were eyeing up the 1.2 TSi. We have the 1.6TDi Octavia for really long runs.

I appreaciate the Fabia might be a better car, but is the Rapid such a bad option?

  12. As someone who owns both a Spaceback and a Fabia II Combi - I would strongly encourage you to look beyond your dislike of the shape (though I too like the styling of the Fabia III). The Fabia II Combi is significantly more practical than my Spaceback, and the boot layout is, in my opinion, better than the Fabia III which has been cluttered up with more moulded plastic side panels.

There are stunning deals on the Fabia II Combi right now from both main dealers and car supermarkets.

Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk, please excuse any typos.

    I will take a look!

  13. So having owned a MKIII Octavia Estate for just over a year now, we have gotten around to thinking about changing our 8 year old 3 door VW Polo.

Our first thought was to go for a Fabia but as the new model hasn't been around for too long we started looking at the Rapid. We would be in the market for one a similar age to the Octy, so around June/July 2014 model with 12-14K miles, probably the Spaceback and most definately the 1.2 TSi (I think that would be an 85ps last year?).

Would be most grateful if any of you existing owners could highlight any issues with the earlier models or are they pretty similarly matched up to the June 2014 Octy I already own?

At what spec does cruise control come into play is also of interest, although I mostly see S's, a handful of SE's and a rare Elegance kicking around at the moment.

Thanks in advance. Any info advice greatly appreciated.

  14. We (SWMBO and I) originally headed to the stealer to purchase a used MKII Octavia Estate, with 14K in our 'pocket'.

The car we looked at was parked back to back with a MKIII, both with the boots open. We were just saying to each other how much bigger it looked and wouldn't it be great if we could by a MKIII. At that moment we were approached by the salesman who introduced is to  PCP with 0%.

We came to realise we had a 5K deposit and the 9K end payment. All we had to do was find £100 each per month for 3 years and we could have a brand new car.

At the end of the 3 years we will have the paid full price we negotiated at the start and not a penny more. Another way we look at it is we will be paying 9K for a 3 year old car we know the history of and have looked after.

But we intend to keep it, so this works well.
