PCP ending with 2k equity
Well the 7500 of the car belongs to the bank right now. Either way u need to pay that. If u trade in they settle it. If u sell privately u pay it. So the only value u have in the car is the difference in the 7500 & whatever u sell it for. You will always have money tied up in a car unless u can sell it privately for 12 or 11.5 & use the 4K to buy a nice little runaround. But that still leaves 4K tied up in a car. Id rather pay the bank the 7K final payment and have a car worth 12k rather than sell the car privately, and then buy a car for 4K that is worth 4K. Granted U’d be loan free but a 7K loan to own a 12K car is as good a deal as you’ll get. And what problems might a 4K car give u in unexpected repairs compared to a 12K relatively new car.

PCP ending with 2k equity
So u owe 7500 & I think u said above that u see them selling for 12,000. So that’s a decent bit of equity & about what I’d expect. So on trade in they are basically offering 10k. And that tracks as well. It’s a couple K less than selling private. So everything is adding up to about what I’d expect. Roughly. Selling private is a pain. I’ve had mine up for about 4weeks now & just this week have had 3 promising calls. On my side - I’m in no rush to sell. I have a work van, so if I sold today I wouldn’t be without transport. & there are no issues with the car, it is mint. So I have no worries about problems afterwards. Selling private is weird. Its all about timing & pure luck. U may post it for sale today & it coincides with some guy looking for exactly what ur selling the same day. Or u could be waiting months to get a bite. How unique is ur car? How unique is it locally? Can u make it more attractive by dropping price a bit below current market. How long can u go without a car? This gives u selling time which is what dealers have on their side that most private sellers don’t. Can u borrow a banger from a friend for a couple months if urs sells quick? That means u can put it up go sale way earlier than u actually need & just wait without any panic or pressure to sell for less than u want. if u got 11,500 - clear the 7,500 & u’ve hot 4K - 1500 up on the trade in. So is it worth 1500 to u to sell private. That’s the bottom line. But look at it this way. You can buy a car for 7500 right now that is costing everyone else 12K - that’s about exactly how PCP should work.

Very confused - front assist!
Look for a sticker like this in the boot. Probably near your spare wheel. Take a picture and post on the site & someone will be kind enough to decode what spec ur car came with. You could prob decode it yourself by entering the codes into google & searching their meaning. I’m sure there’s a handy conversion website somewhere.

PCP ending with 2k equity
On my first one I eventually traded in. 2 years in I decided I wanted to go up to a VRS from a 1.6D. When I first enquired about trading in, I tried 3 diff dealers & it was a waste of time, they all offered almost exact same deal. Like a cartel. They obviously have do discretion to discount anything & they are all working off same book value for car. 2 of the dealers never even saw my car & offered the same amount as my local dealer. So I just kept the car. 6 months later Skoda introduced 0% finance on the VRS So now the deal was worth my while. All 3 offered me the same trade in price as they did 6 months earlier. But as I mentioned above, anytime u trade in u are getting screwed. But I was happy to go with it at the time. Now that VRS is 4 years old. 1 year ago I paid the 12,500 to the VAG bank. I financed most that from Credit Union. And I currently have car for sale for about 20K. And thats the going price for them here right now. Some selling for as low as 18k but with much higher mileage & not as many options etc. if I traded it right now I’d prob get an offer of about 15-16K ( if lucky) So the issue isn’t with the pcp it’s with the hit u take when trading in any car to a dealer. U lose 1000’s - but u avoid headache of selling a car privately. Pros & cons.

PCP ending with 2k equity
In my experience here in Ireland Id have to disagree with most of that. I have tried buying a car with no trade in - absolutely no discount offered. Walked out of 3 different dealers, fully called their bluff just looking for 1500 off a 40k car. None of them backed down. It seems most of them now make their money on selling you finance rather than a car🤷♂️ In fact in many places the cash price of a car is higher than the finance price 😂 And I have had 2 PCP Skoda cars. At end of each term I’ve had equity. In general I think Skoda calculates the GMV at about 35-40% of the starting price of the car (less options) So in order for ur car to have no equity it would need to lose over 60% value in that 3 years. I read recently that Skoda loses about 45% in that 3 years. So picking some round figures: Starting price, 30,000 - GMV: 11,100 - after 3 years car still worth about 15,000 @ 50% depreciation. it’s not in Skoda, the dealers or the finance companies interest for the GMV to be close to the trade value of the car. They want u to have at least 15% equity. That covers them if u hand it back, but more important encourages you to go again. My last PCP was amazing. 12,500 final payment for a 3 year old VRS. I can assure you they are selling for way more than that here in Ireland. On a trade in they will screw me quite a bit, but that has nothing to do with pcp or any other finance. That’s just trade in prices which is another topic. You overcome that by selling the car privately if u can. Also to consider, maybe higher trim & therefore more rare & sought after cars hold there value a bit better & sell easier on the other side. So a PCP contract may work slightly better on a higher trim car, but I’ve not compared. I can only go on my experience on my last 2 PCP deals. & id go PCP again without blinking an eye - as long as the GMV is set at below 40%. Some companies may raise it to bring down the monthly repayments but then you will have issues. U want GMV at close to 35% as u can get & no more than 40 & u should be fine. If it is higher than 40% then that means ur monthly will be very low & u could stick aside a balance every month to have something saved for the end of term. Either way the cost of the car doesn’t budge. If the car is costing 30k - it costs 30K whatever finance way u go about it. Higher monthly will mean lower final payment & more equity in car, low monthly will mean higher final payment & less equity - but due to the lower monthly u could save the extra ever month to allow for it.

Who do I believe
I'd go back to Skoda Dealership and tell them that if they won't replace them under warranty then you will contact your insurance company to send their independant accessor to access it. If he finds in your favor they will need to do the work and pay the accessor fees. If he finds nothing wrong, you will need to pay his fees, but I'd cover off that cost by getting the indy guy to pay for the accessor if he finds nothing wrong. In other words, if both are so confident that they are right, get them to put their money where their mouth is.

PCP ending with 2k equity
Id be interested to see how you ended with no equity. If PCP, they intentionally set the GMV at a % that will leave you with at least enough equity to be the deposit on the next car. Or if you decide to hand the keys back they have a nice a few quid profit in it. The GMV is very conservative compared to what the car should be worth after 3 years. And Skoda has held value fairly well over the last few years. The GMV on my OCTY VRS was €12,500 - I made the final payment. That was a year ago. So the car is 4 years old now and still fetching 20K here in Ireland. Although dealers would prob only offer me 15K on a trade in right now. But still selling in the forecourt for 20K + with the low mileage like mine. For the OP: £2500 seems a bit low. But I guess it depends on condition, mileage, spec etc - I'd pay the final payment and see if you can sell it privately. Have you priced around to see what they are selling for?

Find me a Superb...
You've got competition 🙂 I've also currently got my Octy VRS for sale and am on the lookout for a Superb. Would like the Dragon Green or Meteor Grey. And for me VC is a must and I'm looking for a 2019 FL model. Petrol preferable, and 272 would be nice too. Im in Ireland though so need to import, VRT etc etc. But I have deadline of Dec 31st when importing will practically be impossible with Brexit kicking in. I'm hoping Sept brings some new stock. Isn't that a reg change for the UK? I'm hoping that a good number are holding off until September. If this falls through I'll consider the new VRS which hopefully gets released next month. But I think it will be crazy price brand new. Saw a Dragon Green on ebay the other day but it didn't last long. Hens Teeth. Nearly 3 weeks though with my current VRS up for sale and only 1 call. Not looking great so far.

Front assist unavailable
Try independent ADAS companies. Doesn’t have to be Skoda to recal. A good windscreen company will probably have the gear. But a really good panel beating company will have. Many dealers, especially smaller dealers don’t have the gear. They will take car and prob have an independent do they recal anyway. The recals are carried out to manufactures specifications no matter who does it, using the manufactures specified recal charts etc. I’m reckon it will be half the price.

Re-cal can be required for a number of reasons. Respray, minor bumper knock in car park, new wheels fitted, etc etc. If alignment was slightly off even a heavy load in boot could give an intermittent fault, or even just dirt or other impedance over one of the sensors (the camera on windscreen or radar in bumper) will give warning. Savage price for recal though. I bet if you ring around other dealerships have different prices. Seems like a bit of a lucky dip on recal pricing. Like they are making it up as they go along 🤷♂️

To Canton or not to Canton - that is the question?
In Ireland the config shows "Canton" as an option for the 1.5 Sportline AND as an option for the iV Sportline. BUT When you go to the descriptions - the 1.5 has the standard Canton description - 12 Speakers, 610Watt, and the "Canton" logo etc. 662Euro The iV Canton description is different - 11 Speakers (obviously the Sub is the 12th) - Still 610Watt, NO "Canton" logo but its only 540Euro I'm guessing Canton wouldn't allow their badge to be used unless the Sub is present - will affect the overall quality which they probably wouldn't sign off on. But it is still a "Canton" optional extra.

New Octavia 2020 vRS?
I compared a like for like car available on the CZK Config and the Irish Config. I chose a 1.5TSI Superb Sportline DSG - 873,900 v 40,375E I then configured a VRS as close to the one I got 4 years ago. I have a 187bhp TDI Manual. No exact match. Nearest is 250bhp TSI Manual or the 190bhp TDI DSG - both the exact same price - If I got the DSG 4 years ago it would have cost me about 2500E more I think. Mine cost 35K so I need to add 2500K to do a like for like comparison. So a VRS that cost 37500 4 years ago will cost how much this time around? Well, I matched everything else almost exact the same. Sunglass, Canton, Paint, etc. It is coming in at 913,800 which comparing to the Superb price above - I think it would be about 42K - So thats 4,500K more for the same spec car (albeit new model) Thats without any of the extras that are very tempting. The upgraded seats(ergonomic) , ADAS features. Folding mirrors are crazy money. DCC, AUX Heating, KESSY. You could option this car up to 50K euro. But even if I was happy to go with the same spec as last time around - I'll have to spend 4,500 euro more. Actually 7000 euro more as a Manual TDI won't be available. I think that prices me out. I could import a 1 year old 272 TSI Superb Sportline for 35-38K with vrt paid. Save myself thousands and still have a cracking car. All still speculation - but its kinda in line with what I was expecting. Hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer before getting some concrete numbers. The 1.5 TSI Sportline DSG Superb in UK is £33585. So based on that, the VRS would be about £35K for a basic enough model (based on rough napkin maths 🙂 ) Seems Skoda might miss the mark a bit on this and price themselves out of the target market. That pricing will be bringing too many other viable options into the mix.

New Octavia 2020 vRS?
Well Brexit will impact not just Skoda but all manufactures. So that 34k BMW 330i will rise also - so everything will be relative. But as mentioned it’s all still very much guess work as to what the hell will happen. Crazy considering it’s all a few months away 🤦♂️

To Canton or not to Canton - that is the question?
Agree with majority of this. Totally agree that Canton is not the best sound system available - but I guess my query was more along the lines of is it a big enough upgrade on the standard system in the Superb that it’s worth having as a “must have” option when searching for a 1 year old car. I think all the comments suggest it is. But Yehh, I’m under no illusion that it’s the best sound available - it’s just the best Skoda have available. And quite good at that. About in line with Skoda’s philosophy - very good without breaking the bank.

1.5 TSI 150 vs 2.0 TDI 150
Yehh it’ll all be down to the torque from a Diesel that a petrol can’t replicate at the same bhp. I drove a Superb Diesel 150Bhp 1.5L a couple of days ago and I was surprised at how responsive & quick it was to pick up the pace when I pressed down. Not placed back in my seat or anything - but I own a 2016 187 VRS which is lighter & has that more power and the 2020 150 Superb Diesel actually wasn’t that bad in comparison. I must look up the torque comparison on both 🤔 A lot is made of bhp but a lot of that early punch comes from the torque. And as has been mentioned the Rev range & gear choice will need to be adjusted from Diesel to petrol.

To Canton or not to Canton - that is the question?
This has given me an idea when going through it. The bass takes up the side compartments in the boot. So if I see pic of boot & side compartments are full - that’s the Canton. Already found one car that doesn’t mention Canton in the description anywhere but you can see the bass bins in boot. Bonus 😂

Superb Sportline Engine options in Ireland
I thought that as well - but SKODA lettering only appeared on the face lift didn’t it? Before that it was the badge. So any SPORTLINE Facelift should have black lettering - yet I’m looking at loads online that have silver lettering on the SPORTLINE.

I think about min 7 may cover what you are after - but no harm in watching it all the way through if you are new to VC.

To Canton or not to Canton - that is the question?
Thanks for the comments guys. Strengthens my resolve to find a car with Canton in it. For me its too much of the driving experience to ignore. As mentioned above if I settle for something less it will always be in the back of my mind. Just wanted to make sure it was worth searching for the Canton option or if I was wasting my time as it doesn't make that much difference. I think the comments have already shown that it does make a difference, its not just a badge.

Superb Sportline Engine options in Ireland
@shyVRS245 a little off topic - but you might know. Why do some of the Sportlines have the Skoda writing (on the 2019 facelifts) on the back in black and some have it in silver? I thought it might be the Phev's that had the black but that doesn't seem to be the case on some of the pics I've seen. Also some of the L&K's have contrast stitching on the seats and some have the stitching in the same colour of the seats. I can't seem to find any reason for why on some and not on others - can't be just luck of the draw. Anyone know?

Superb Sportline Engine options in Ireland
Also just got an insurance quote back today for a 2019 Sportline 272 Auto - I gave them an english reg to quote on. And like you, it will be about 50E cheaper than my current 187 VRS Manual. I asked the broker to double check it - she rang back 10 min later and said yehh thats correct. She said value doesn't really impact on insurance much, so coming up 3 years to a higher spec car doesn't really make a dent and possibly it being Auto compared to Manual and because it has more advanced safety features it all prob adds up to a safer car - despite the fact that it has 100bhp more than what I have. I bet that if I got a remap done on my VRS and declared it I'd get hammered 🙂 Anyway - surprising, but true.

To Canton or not to Canton - that is the question?
Thanks for reply. I did think of going for a spin in a non-canton car from local dealer - they have no canton in stock. Very small town in Ireland 🙂 But I think its one of those things were the standard system will sound perfectly acceptable, but then when you get a chance to hear the Canton, you didn't realise what you were missing. I'm kinda hoping someone is going to tell me they had the Canton in their old one and now don't (or vice versa) and they never really noticed the difference. But I don't think thats gonna be the case - I think its a genuine upgrade that makes a difference, not just some fancy tags that you are paying for. I'd happily go without the Columbus and get the Canton upgrade instead.

To Canton or not to Canton - that is the question?
Thanks. I guessed that the Superb might benefit even more from the Canton. Thanks for the link also - but I'm looking more at the facelifts from 2019 on.
