  1. Hi all, Had my car serviced a couple of mths ago, and was advised I need to replace the engine mount. However, the garage cannot get hold of the part soon, (gave me the part number, so they can fit if I can find), tried another garage, same issue. I mailed a few motor factors, no joy. Wings Skoda parts dept got back to me and said the part will take 2-4 weeks to arrive, however, said this part is not listed for my Vehicle, (Fabia VRS mk1, Feb 2006 model). Does anyone know if this is the correct part? Checked on ebay, saw this, in the description it mentions its the equivalent part number, if part is fine to order, does anyone know if its a good quality part to order, or am i best off waiting for Wings? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144896207376?itmmeta=01HW3FJYZPVM12ZZM6M8DFBBA7&hash=item21bc7caa10:g:S5AAAOSwr3djvqw9&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwMi9Qk3vKA4ziibfCQABurIovUGL%2BjEtrTwUNNN8ZyysjDfkGK6fC2aYD5JgKXZkWoWPIPA3r1v7KolWEB3P2VEZsUQBPh4QvGO3uEtyl3%2FIdtlGyMwSPc35%2FsyJ3Qc4qK69ojDWEsmPcKtdG9d7tQaM2B%2BOwFkZoox665KEP7gqtXxOqEXN6ZlVklD2EQ9hyLrEwRyNjweQwRwFJnXrPxHlurRO%2BdFDfTRNgCmkmfb63l%2BFy2h6kNxuzGKb4MLVTA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR_rvy-_gYw Also seen some cheaper ones on ebay, but unsure. Thanks for any help.
  2. Thanks Both, Its going in to a local garage next month, who want to see it first, (I originally took to a specialist who advised of the above). If I hear anything worth posting, I'll add to this post 🙂
  3. Hi Folks, My mk1 Fabia VRS just had a service, my mechanic advised the NSF driveshaft is creaking on rotation, however cannot get the above part, to replace it. Therefore advised I try and get hold of and they will fit. (The garage only use official oem parts). Can anyone recommend a good third party part, or is it worth a punt on a used from a scrappers? Or is this a bit of a lottery? Any help appreciated Jay
  4. Thank you both for the info, TMB that makes sense. Cheers Nige, I'll look into that thread and see how good my skills are at getting the unit out 🙂
  5. Hi all, As above, my front windows are electric, rear manual. The front only work in hot weather, I changed the fuse, checked the block in the door gap was locked tight, tried to wind up/down with key in the door, tried the reset method, also changed the driver side window switch, no joy. A mechanic had a quick look and said it sounds like the motor unit may be getting a bit of moisture in, and to sort its about £240ish plus labour, with an official part. I've put up with it for about 5 yrs, however, been told as of next year its an MOT fail, by the test centre engineer. My question is, assuming the above is true, does anyone know what part I'm looking for? Is it just a motor unit I need, or will I need linkages etc....and if its worth a punt on a used part from a scrapyard, or ebay, (I was told some 3rd party parts don't fit easily). Again, any help is much appreciated.
  6. Thanks both, That was actually what I thought when it happened the first time, but the 3 month delay made me think twice. I'll look into it further, when I find a fix, I'll update this thread too.
  7. Hi All, In Dec 2021, my car randomly started making an intermittent and very infrequent whistling noise, (just like a traditional kettle boiling, with a slight squeak effect). I noticed it mainly did it on motorway and dual carriageway journeys, say between 50-70mph, coming from the engine bay, closer to the passenger side, after 15-20 mins into my journey. The noise stopped for 3 months, and has just come back. The car usually has a light load, e.g. just me in it driving, empty boot. Accelerating/decelerating, changing gears don’t affect it. The AC, blowers, radio etc are turned off. This noise is not the same as the quieter nice sounding whistle the car makes when the turbo kicks in, it is loud enough to annoy. Incase its a coincidence, 6 mths ago on startup, it intermittently made an almost chirping sound on startup, this noise now happens all the time, on startup only, not sure if there is a link between the two. Any help would be much appreciated, so I can go to my mechanic with something. Thanks
  8. Thanks David, I'm glad too. Around the time i got mine, I tried convincing others to get a Skoda to suit their needs, none of them would take me on, which was surprising! Shame she sold it, i can imagine the regret, as the thought alone of me asking if i should sell, didn't sit well with me.
  9. You're right about those points, as im getting older, my driving habits have changed too, which will help preserve it longer. My garage only use oem parts, or uprated, so that really helps with things like the belts, and pump.
  10. That's good of them, the belts and pump are one job I always get done when due, for that reason.
  11. Thanks all for the replies, I appreciate the feedback. All the points are really good, and very convincing, so I've decided.... I'm keeping my Fab!! PS Jars, I'm glad you still have yours, I can imagine a cambelt snap potentially being v bad.
  12. Hi Wino, apologies if it looks that way, however its not intended to, i'd edit the post if i could to make it look less that way. It was to get as much detail across as poss, as im in a quandary on what to do. If i do sell, then of course i'll put in classified with pics etc...
  13. Sorry for the really late response. In the end it was fixed in stages to be sure, the master cylinder, full clutch and dmf changed. The dmf was in a bad way and needed replacing, changing this lessened the horrible idle judder i would sometimes get too.
  14. Thank Steve, I absolutely love it, and its not rusty. My concern was more that with issues coming at once, could things like the radiator, turbo or other things go soon, it would too tough for me to take! And i've heard so many negative things about modern diesels that i wouldn't get one.
  15. Hey fellow Briskodians, I’m after some initial advice on my near 15 yr old Fabia VRS mk1, shall I keep, or sell? The car has done 102,000 miles, FSH, 8 years Official dealer stamp, 7 years VW Specialist stamps. The first owner had it for approx 8 yrs, old lady had it, did local runs put 19,000 on the clock. 7 years me, average 15,000 motorway miles a year Apart from usual maintenance, pads, disks, cam belts etc.. It had Injectors reconditioned under warranty, (to try and solve idle engine judder) and console bushes changed and uprated, in 2014/15. On July 2019 replaced master cylinder, full clutch kit, flywheel, (all oem parts). March - July 2020 – Alloy wheels refurbished, both rear callipers replaced, (with oem), EGR valve replaced, (with oem), battery replaced. The car drives very well, it has been well maintained, turbo is responsive, just wear and tear on bodywork due to motorway miles, bodywork excellent, (was autoglymed in the past), bumper, spoiler, wing mirrors etc faded, due to the car being red. I may also be doing less miles in the short term at least, poss 8,000 miles a year max. My questions are, after taking a big hit on costs in the last 12 mths, could anyone say what else could go wrong at this stage? (I appreciate no one can say for sure, but an indication would help). 2 x mechanics tell me to keep it. What do you guys think, and why? Without seeing it, could you any of you hazard a guess to what it could be worth, (prices vary on autotrader and ebay, so a bit unsure). If I replaced, it would be for a petrol, something 3-5 yrs old, similar in terms of size, poss a Polo 1.4, Polo GTI 1.8, or even Suzuki Swift sport, (a bit of power would be nice to have, not as essential). Any help is much appreciated.
