  1. I've always had VAGs my last being a 1.9 tdi 2010 Octavia. However cant get that brilliant engine anymore. So looking at a 2017+ Octavia Estate to do trips of 180 miles each way once a week South Wales to Midlands. I dont know if to go for a 1.6 or 2.0. I have other fun cars so this is purely cheapish commuting tool. Also DSG or Manual? If your sat 70mph is the 2.0 150bhp actually better?

So looking at a mk4 Octavia to do trips of 180 miles each way once a week South Wales to Midlands. I dont know if to go for a 1.6 or 2.0. I have other fun cars so this is purely cheapish commuting tool. Also DSG or Manual? If your sat 70mph is the 2.0 150bhp actually better on fuel?

  3. Hi guys, Yes lots of posts on here on this but my issue doesnt fulfill any I have seen.

So mine failed MOT on near side beam too low. The in dash adjuster only moves the offside one, I guess other side broken (a few posts on here about the fuse blowing but one of mine works)

Its only a 1.9TDI 2010 car so halogen projectors (mk2.5). Is there just a manual adjustment or anything I can do to get through MOT? There seem to be 2 white plastic lugs at top of headlight that will take a philips screw driver, however they dont seem to do anything on mine.... should they?

    Cheers

  4. Hi,

If you've got VCDS try this.

Go to Module 46 – central convenience

    Go to 10 - Adaption

    Go to Channel 3

    Settings are 1=on, 0=off

    Doesnt have that module.

    Went to Module 09

    Went to Adaptations

Channel 3 is called "Selective (Single Door Locking)"

That is set to 01 already

Yes double key turn does unlock all thanks. Still be nice to have it do it in 1 go if I can tho?

  5. I have a real poverty spec 2010 Octavia!

I have manual keys (Non flip keys)

I put key in drivers door lock and only unlocks drivers door have to then press unlock all door button by handbrake to let mrs in.

What do I need to change so it unlocks all doors when I put key in?

It locks all when I lock car.

    Cheers

  6. Morning all

I need to change my right stalk so I have a good trip/mpg computer (Thanks Eddy)

I have a 2010 mk2 with the following wheel, I have found some guides but clearly or pre facelift but thought they be same so I crack on. I have the following wheel and it has 2 airbag clips at back (poor pic below) I cant for love nor money get the bugger off! Am I trying to push it to the outside with a flat blade? I can only do 1 at time (you can only see it when wheel positioned to top)

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers

  7. OK - I must be looking at the wrong thing as when I go to Castrol UK, there is no GTX 5w30 and the GTX variants that are there are part synthetic and if you use the model finder, the castrol UK website returns Castrol edge 5W30 for your vehicle.

    http://applications.castrol.com/oilselector/en_gb/c/recommendation?vehicleType=cars&manufacturer=skoda&model=octavia-ii-1z-(2004-2013)&modelType=octavia-ii-1-9-tdi-(2004-2013)

    http://www.castrol.com/en_gb/united-kingdom/car-engine-oil/engine-oil-type/part-synthetic-oils.html

If you're happy and confident everything is in order, that is really all that matters.

Is your oil filter a cartridge or a filter insert to be used in a canister?

Its the usual filter in a plastic top hat I think (looks like that and every 1.9 Id have before is like that)

I think I might have oil name wrong, but its used by JLR in many of their cars (all forced induction), Its Castrol stuff so its probably the edge, I will go check later.

  8. Castol GTX does meet VAG requirements and is used as OEM oil by many OEMs (Might be how I get hold of it ;-) )

The filter just doesnt seem to have a non return valve in it. If they do I would like to change for one with one. Does the Bosch  501440287 have one? Does the OEM have one?

Reading around its often in the housing and not the filter on many VAG engines, but Id like to know.

Il prob get a new pick up pipe too and drop sump as I just bought car. Any idea on part number?

  9. 1.9 TDI 105BHP

I know should be using 5w30 Fully synthetic. Any point going to thicker 10W40 for a standard car with 66k on clock yet?

I have an unlimited supply of Castrol GTX 5w30 fully sythetic so I will prob just use that and change every 6 months.

Any particular filter to go for? Doesnt look like there is a return valve on any of these so any cheap one do or get a Mahl one?

    Thanks

    Sheldon

  10. Hi all

Got myself a 2010 Estate with the good old 1.9 TDI (Tho a BXE but I will take the risk and change oil every 6 months). Need to get under it and check about DPF but Im SURE it has one as all European sold Diesel cars after 2008 had to have one tho this forum everyone says only the 4x4 ones did.

Its proper budget spec....... I dont mind but doesnt even have the trip/mpg computer. I know the Maxi dot seems had to add to a face lift (Impossible back in 2012) but what if I want the mpg instant and odometer reading? Can I get a different stalk (with buttons on end to cycle through) and code it with VCDS?

Here is a VCDS log if it helps?

    Thanks

    Sheldon

You guys on this forum seem to always be most upto date. My Golf mk6 R has flagged this fault V181 on a few occasions now with only 34k on clock and at those time I can assure you I was in fwd.

I plan on changing the haldex oil (As its due in 6k anyway), however is it worth removing pump and cleaning the gauze head it seems to have? (Looking at pictures) and checking electrical connection not full of oil?

Any advice be great as Im not sure what to do as its intermittent, 99% of time fine them in last 3 or 4 months happened 4 times. Any advice?

    Cheers
