  1. Do you take them off with the tweazers?  None of the with a split.?

I reckon i have had the Bolt covers on and off one car i have several times a month for several years now and never had one come off by accident.

I have seen some people fail to be able to figure out that 4 are one size and the 5th is bigger.

(i have no Security Bolt on, so all 5 are the same on my own car.)

    EDIT.

    Just seen post #9.

So it looks like you have the wrong plastic covers for your car.

I use tweezers when I remove them and yes I know that one cover is different for the security bolt.

No, they are the correct covers, I just had to get them from the dealer after I bought the car because they left them off by mistake when I got it.

  2. I bought my Fabia as a two year old, used car. Wheel but covers were missing, presumably lazy service techs, they sent a jiffy bag of replacements in the post - no charge. Suggest you ask your supplying dealer, they won't cost him much for the goodwill. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks but the car came with the nut covers missing and I had to chase the dealer to get some for it already. Plus I am not on good terms with that dealer anymore anyway because I had to fight with them about the terrible condition the car was handed over in.

  3. If my memory serves me from my late Octy the covers are made of genuine crappy plastic which probably will crack due to UV-radiation and all kinds of common air pollution; also being pulled off  will cause wear, especially if you have a change to winter wheels every year. I'd like to think that a lifespan of 10 years is fair for the material chosen.

My car is only a year old and covers have only been on and off a few times, so I would have hoped they still have plenty of life in them!

  4. Is it common for the wheel nut covers to come loose and fall off? Had no problems before, but just noticed the other day I had lost a few. They haven't been nicked because they are random different ones from various wheels and some of the others were loose and close to coming off. I made sure all the remaining ones were fully back in place and now a couple of days later and not many miles driven, some have started to come loose already. Only thing I have done is take off all the wheels and put them back on a few months ago, but I did make sure all the nut covers were properly back on. I find it strange that they are just starting to come loose now. They are all original covers that came with the car and not aftermarket jobbies. Is this unusual or normal?

  5. Homesqueeze, you have a Monte right? Everything is working exactly right. You have standard DRLs which are, from factory a filament bulb. The only Fabia with the 'dummy' bulbs is the vRS, they have LED DRL/sidelight setup where by the unit dims for sidelights.

Fabiamk2SE I'm surprised you didn't pick up on that. [emoji12]

Ah right, thanks for that. Didn't realize it was just the vRS. I just remember reading about these dummy bulbs and thinking it's strange because mine work.

  6. I've used Aldi/Lidl ones that are like CTEK ones and sell for about £14.  They're fine without battery disconnection.  They also say to unplug them before connecting and disconnecting, but I think they say these things to cover worst case scenarios and so absolve themselves.  It's not as if you see sparks flying off them.

I wouldn't turn the ignition whilst connected though.

Thanks, I actually got mine from Lidl. Yeah, I thought it might be them just covering themselves. Don't need to use the charger just yet, but good to know for when I do.

  7. May seem like a stupid question, but I just want to check I'm not going to do any damage. I have bought a small mains powered battery charger of the intelligent kind thats supposed to not charge the battery if you put the connections the wrong way round etc. I have it just for emergencies and also just to top up the battery during winter when its mainly getting short drives in colder weather. The instructions say that you need to disconnect the battery from the car before you charge it. My question is, is this really necessary or is it safe to just attach the charger to the battery while it is still connected to the car. Its only really because the battery on this car looks like a pain in the arse to disconnect because its got various other things attached to the top of it and I dont even know what they are or how to remove them if I wanted to. Would it be safe to just whack the charger on as it is or am I going to fry the cars electrics or something if I do that? Any advice appreciated!

  8. Interesting (:

Do you have fog lights? The sidelights are usually the DRL's but not as bright i think?

Have you owned the car since new?

Yeah I've got fog lights and the DRLs are housed in the same unit right next to them. Sidelight bulbs only come on when you use the headlight switch at which point the DRLs go off.

Yep I've had the car from new, so no-one has tinkered with them or anything.

  9. nope. not confusing at all.

The black pack lights have a projector on the outside and a fake black reflector on the inside and a blue sidelight bulb that does nothing

the facelift silver pack lights have a projector on the outside, and a reflector high beam on the inside along with sidelight bulbs.

the pre facelift projectors have the projector on the inside (using a  solenoid for high and low being like the black pack) and the sidelights on the outside.

then theres the base model lights on both pre and post facelift, which use h4 reflectors.

whats to be confused about? :D

I keep reading about people saying that the blue sidelight bulb doesn't do anything on the black pack lights. This is strange, because mine work fine on my Monte. As you would expect they are on when you put the sidelight setting on and they stay on when the main headlight is on as well. More confusion!

  10. I hadn't realised that but I guessed sharkrider had the single ones because he has the levers like my Roomster had. But what I'd really like to know is where I put the stickers on mine with the separate main and dip beams, with no engraving on the glass to show me.

I haven't put beam deflectors on my Fabia, but I used to use them a lot on my Golf which also had clear headlights with no markings on. When you buy a pack of beam deflectors it comes with a large fitting instruction sheet with a comprehensive list of car models and the location to place them for each one. There is a picture of each type of headlight and it shows where to place the sticker in relation to the bulb as you face it head on. As long as you get it in the rough area that they are showing it will do the job. Its not as complicated as I might have made it sound!

  11. I've not owned it since new, it was an ex demo, and the first oil change was at 13,500 (lots of cold starts and short trips I would imagine).  Its now showing a healthier 18,500 until the next oil change which is what I was hoping for as I sit on the motorway alot.

I used Blade in Weston Super Mare, it was £181 with VAT.  Apparently it pays to shop around the dealers but this was convenient for work for me.  The oil is dead expensive apparently.

They've not quoted for the inspection service yet, but I'm guessing somewhere nearer the £250 mark.  5000 until that ones due.

I'm looking forward to it being off warranty so I can just do it myself...

I see thanks. I'm thinking I'm gonna use my local indy for its servicing. They do a good job and should be a bit cheaper.

  12. Thought I'd start this thread as there was a popular one like this on the Mk5 Golf GTI forum I used to use.

Basically just share what things you have done with your Monte today. Whether it be you did some mods to it or cosmetic upgrades, a bit of D.I.Y on it, had a nice drive somewhere or even just a good wash and clean. Doesn't have to be exciting, anything's welcome, just come and share with the class. Of course, as always, photos to go with it will be even better!

I'll kick things off, as I finally got the chance to clean up and paint my front brake hubs today before the rust sets in too bad. Looking much better now and feeling pleased as I did my drums the other day too, so have managed to get it all done before winter sets in!

  13. Hi,

The one who must be obeyed recently had a Fab 3 courtesy car which had a DAB touchscreen stereo in it which the mrs thought was rather good. In her Fab 2, she has a Swing with an AM reception problem (as described elsewhere).

What options are there for getting something similar to what is in the Fab 3? It doesn't really matter whether it's 3rd party or VW OEM (like from a different model).

And yes, I can imagine that I'll need a 5 TeraWatt aerial amplifier for the DAB.

    ta,.

    D

I guess you could get an amundsen+ stereo in there. My Monte has one and its DAB touchscreen. Wouldn't know what the fitting procedures are, but others on here would be able to help with that.

  14. My keyfob  died without warning today. I assume its just the battery, but its strange that its run out so fast as the car is less than 10 months old. My old VWs keyfob was identical and never needed changing in the ten years that I had it! Anyway, I know its probably not expensive to replace but is this something that would be covered by the warranty as its failed so prematurely? Anyone had this done?
