  1. 3: Which I think is the clever way, on a petrol engine stopping the engine at an exact position whereby a squirt of petrol and spark will start the engine.

That's what happens on Toyotas with the stop and start on them. Plus they get batteries designed for stop start as well. There are fuel saving benefits, not vastly but there are. Plus you get lower emissions so can get cheaper road tax too.

  2. Hi, I've got a 2007 Octavia vRS TDi and was wondering how easy is it to retrofit the maxidot display, a self dimming rear view mirror and those little rear view camera kits off eBay. Mines got the Columbus nav in it so I don't know if that makes any difference with the maxidot and I am assuming, weather it be rightly or wrongly that I can get one of those little cameras that go into where the rear number lights are to work? There are lots of golf rear view dimming mirrors on eBay too, just not sure how they would be wired in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  3. 'Box works fine and is pretty smoorh

It does work fine, that's cos it's not a CVT gearbox, it's an electronic gearbox that uses a constantly variable style. It's called a E-CVT box. I work for Toyota too so know a bit about em.

  4. Ian's certainly done a great job cleaning his vRS. only probs with the pearl black magic is you have to be a bit of a magician to keep it looking clean IMO, but a good one is difficult to beat. I did think about PBM for by BL, but thought black paint on black wheels on black leather might just be a bit too ... well ....black! The kids give me enough stick as it is having RBM

My old Fabia vRS was black magic, was a bugger to keep that clean but soooooo nice when it was!

  5. Your going to get many people on here who prefer one fuel to the other. I've got a 170PD vRS and I love it. It's had it's DPF removed and been remapped so now worries with it clogging up. The trip computer reads that it's doing about 51-52 to the gallon as well. I do about 18k a year so the running costs are great for me. Before that I used to have a Leon FR TFSI so the same engine as the Octavia vRS petrol, same car really. Out of the two I much prefer the diesel myself, I just like the torque and the low down grunt you get, yes the petrol was more refined and quieter but for me I just missed the diesel shove. Either car you buy, you'll love it, the Octavia is a great car.

  6. Having got the James Bond Blu ray box set for Xmas I've got some single Blu Rays and DVD's for sale. I've got the box set of all the films up to and including casino royale, plus I've got casino royale, quantum of solace and goldfinger on Blu Ray. I'll post some pictures later when I get home. I was thinking £30 for the DVD box set posted and £5 each for the Blu rays posted. Or £40 for the lot posted out.

  7. When I was changing from the Leon FR it was between a Golf GT TDi 170, Octavia vRS and a A3 sportback s line 170 TDi. The Golf went off the list quickly as I thought it was a bit basic for the price they were, so was between the Skoda and the Audi really. In the end my stingeyness outweighed my desire for a posh badge. I couldn't really justify the extra money for the A3, I got a great bargain with my Octavia and would have to have gotten an older higher mileage Audi for the same money. I'll keep the Octavia a long time and try to save up for an A3 next time tho.

  8. Very true Matty....seeing more and more chavs flogging fabias around now.

There's loads going around Carlisle now, now a Fabia vRS tastefully done can look the business, but the ones that's popping up now...... To me unfortunately due to the price of early high mileage Fabia vRS coming down, it seems they are becoming the new Saxo in these parts

  9. I kind of know what you mean. I've just turned 26 and own an Octavia vRS too. I used to have a Fabia vRS but now just look at some of them driving around town, chaved to the eye balls and think to myself, I'm glad I'm in what I consider a more grown up car these days.

  10. Have to say I'd agree.

Problem with buying any high performance car new is it's going to lose a fair chunk of value in the first year or two.

Going a few years old gives you access to a lot more vehicles.

While not in the price bracket, my toy lost 30% of it's value in the first year.

Luckily I bought it a year old with less than 4k miles on it.

Same for me too. What is your 62 plate car? If you got a 61 or 12 plate S3 (I've no idea if this would be in your price band mind you) would it still not be a better car. My money would be on a nearly new Toyota GT86 for sheer driver enjoyment, plus you get the remainder of a 5 year warranty with it.
