  1. 1.) The screen resolution should be remedied in the new/updated range of headunits

    Superb range of units;

2.) As a result of the above new units....I wonder will the chip be onboard the unit and make the Mitsumi-branded connector cable redundant. How do you know if this is inbuilt in the units?

    Gaff,

    Greetings from a fellow Paddy!

Looking at what yourself and others have posted, I'm fairly certain my Amundsen is a MIB2 model.

There is rich interaction over just bluetooth in terms of pictures for my contacts appearing, SMS reading and compsing from the head unit, song names and album art showing on all medis, including spotify. Being able to change track in sporify from steering wheel etc.

The only cable port in my car is USB - nothing that looks proprietary and nothing branded 'Mitsumu'. I haven't tried(since the Bluetooth is so good) but I'd imagine everything I mention above is possible over USB.

With that in mind - I would guess that the new MIB2 systems don't need Mitsumi cables?...

As mentioned earlier - I have Smartgate installed and working well(bar the loss of data on my phone while connected) and will also have MirrorLink activated very soon. More information on MirrorLink in my Amundsen can be found on my thread here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/347896-mirrorlink-activation-in-amundsent-nav/

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

  2. Very interesting! When was your car manufactured? Does this imply that MirrorLink is just a software upgrade?

My car was built Week 6 2015.

Also - MirrorLink is indeed just a software update.

I gather that some units don't have it at all, whereas my head unit has mention of it in the menus but it cannot be used.

Initially I was told it was a mistake, it's not on my car, I shouldn't see the option etc.. i.e. The lazy answer from the dealer.

I kept pushing and eventually reached someone who knew what they were talking about. They confirmed it would be available in my car through software ;-)

You can read my full thread on MirrorLink here - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/347896-mirrorlink-activation-in-amundsent-nav/

    Cheers,

  3. Who did the retro-fit of SmartGate for you - the dealer?

Is your Amundsen the new MIB2 version as well?

    Hi Sorry,

Been away - yes the dealer did the Retrofit. They had never heard of the part but it came with fitting instructions so no hassle.

It's fit under the passenger seat.

Honestly I don't have a clue what MIB1 or MIB2 are... I am told, by someone in another post, that my Amundsen must be MIB2... I have no idea. Brand new Yeti Outdoor with an upgrade from Bolero to Amundsen with Nav SD Card...

If there is some way for me to check, let me know and I will do so this evening.

    Cheers,

  4. As promised, I have an update on Smartgate...

I had it ordered by a local dealer from Skoda as a retrofit part. The Irish dealer system could not locate the part, I had to provide the item code from the Skoda eShop.

The part arrived within 1 week and has since been retrofitted to my car. It works perfectly. I have tried the Skoda Drive, Performance, MFA Pro and Motosound apps.

It's a gimmick but it's cool all the same. The only issue I have is that, due to the fact it's a WiFi connection, my phone loses data connectivity. It thinks it's connected to WiFi so stops looking for 3G/4G...

Also, some of you may remember a MirrorLink issue/query I had where my Amundsen was saying MirrorLink had to be activated using a key. Yesterday I received the following from Skoda Ireland:

Hi, we've received an update on Mirrorlink for you. Your car will need to be updated by your local dealer by purchasing an activation code, price and availability to be confirmed in an estimated 3 weeks. Mirrorlink is a licensed product so there will be a fee to use the feature. Would you like us to get in touch with your local dealer to arrange for them to contact you? Thanks.

Wondering now where SmartLink fits into all of this?... I wonder will my Amundsen(with newly activated MirrorLink) just receive a software update to enable SmartLink?...

    SB

  5. Have had exactly this issue. Referred it to Skoda UK. Mirror link can be activated by main dealer after late June 2015. It will not be activated for the Yeti until then (no reason given). Irritating, but at least an answer! Well done my dealer for acknowledging the issue and referring it up!

Would you believe I only received a response from Skoda Ireland yesterday! (dealer have yet to respond)

Here is what I was told:

Hi, we've received an update on Mirrorlink for you. Your car will need to be updated by your local dealer by purchasing an activation code, price and availability to be confirmed in an estimated 3 weeks. Mirrorlink is a licensed product so there will be a fee to use the feature. Would you like us to get in touch with your local dealer to arrange for them to contact you? Thanks.

So pretty much the exact same as you Shoreman. Interestingly, they're telling me 3 weeks instead of June/July?...

However, as you said, the main thing is that we actually have an answer!!

  6. I had to install BlueDun on my Galaxy S3 to get it to link to my Bolero .

    Hey Ryeman,

    Thanks for the info.

Was your using Bluedun just to connect at all, or was it what made MirrorLink begin to work?

My Bluetooth telephone and Bluetooth audio work perfectly and have don't since I first paired. It's just the elusive MirrorLink.

As mentioned, will try a HTC One M8 later today.

    Cheers,

    SB

  7. Is your phone in the list of Mirrorlink and Smartlink compatable phones?

    Yes and no... :|

According to MirrorLink it is - https://cert.mirrorlink.com/Productlisting/?MLID=SR140091

According to my phone it is - https://www.dropbox.com/s/svkpx3ejlyerxph/Screenshot_2015-03-20-18-50-58.png?dl=0

According to Skoda it's not - http://compatibilitylist.skoda-auto.com/ (Pick the newest Yeti, Almundsen, Samsung Galaxy Note 4)

However, I'm fairly certain I should see something other than the 'Activation Key' message from my first post. Even a black screen. Or a 'this device is not compatible' message. I have read some posts from other users who have Samsung phones and report getting a black screen on both devices. It's as though MirrorLink is 'installed' in my car but someone forgot to input the license/product key so the software can't run...

To be sure it's not compatibility(which I am quite confident it's not) I will check with my Friend's HTC One M8 tomorrow afternoon and report back.

    Thanks again for your input.

  8. That is an Amundsen II.

Ok - apologies for my confusion. As I said, new to all of this :notme:

When I enter my VIN number to the Skoda site the manual I get is this - http://ws.skoda-auto.com/OwnersManualService/Data/en/Yeti_5L/11-2014/Navigation/Amundsen/SUV_Yeti_Amundsen_InfotainmentNavigation.pdf

As you can see, it includes MirrorLink so I guess I have a Amundsen II

Still no wiser on the Activation problem though...

  9. Just as a help for us here later what MirrorLink App do you have?

I was under the impression that the registered MirrorLink App would bypass the activation request.

I have a number of certified app - all just downloaded to test your theory (would an app override the need for this mystery 'activation'). Sadly that is not the case. Putting my phone in MirrorLink mode and opening the apps results in the app displaying in a dashboard friendly way i.e. The app is aware of MirrorLink being active but the Amundsen shows the same message I show in my original picture...

See attached screenshot if the apps on my phone.

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/svkpx3ejlyerxph/Screenshot_2015-03-20-18-50-58.png?dl=0

  10. Is your phone in the Skoda mirrorlink compatable list on the Skoda website and does it have a registered MirrorLink App running when connected by USB cable?

You've probably seen about it on the Skoda website but if not it's Here

    Hi Urrell,

Thanks for the input. Yes - I checked that.

Also - I get the same message when there is no phone connected. I would have thought it should just be a MirrorLink menu or something and a message like 'no device connected' etc. Maybe someone with working MirrorLink can confirm?...

I'm getting SmartGate installed next Friday but don't expect that to make any difference at all considering they're totally independent systems.

    Cheers,

    SB

  11. As far as I am aware no-one has reported a working Mirror-Link on a Yeti and SkodaUK say it is not available on the Yeti, only the latest Fabia. From the problems others are having does you sat-nav display direction in the dash display?

    Hi Pehar,

Yes my MFD shows Nav directions when a route is input. When there is no destination it displays a compass. I am not near the car now but will take photos later.

The initial answer I got about the MirrorLink was from a local dealer(not Skoda directly) and it was as follows:

"Mirror Link is an option that can be added along with the SAT NAV at an additional cost. Your vehicle does not have this, but unfortunately some units are showing that it does, this is an error from the Factory. "

Personally I find this hard to believe and felt it was just the dealer(or their contact in Skoda) trying to pawn me off with a 'hard luck' answer. If you click 'Amundsen' on this page - http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ - you will see under a picture of the exact head unit my car has that MirrorLink is standard functionality. I have reported this back to my dealer and insisted they contact Skoda.

I don't mind if it's not there - I just don't like being told it's an option and then seeing that it's standard elsewhere. My plan is to contest this until I get MirrorLink, on the basis that there is written proof on the Skoda website stating I should have it!

Here is an excerpt(just because there were other items in the full mail) from my exact response to the dealer:

That's great. Thanks for the update.

I think there might be some confusion on point 3 about the MirrorLink?...

I don't see it listed as an option anywhere and everything I have read says it is standard on the particular Amundsen system in the new Yetis. If you click 'Amundsen' on this page - http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ - you will see MirrorLink is standard functionality. (More details is the Manual available here) It's just software - not actually a piece of hardware. As mentioned on the Skoda Update page "What is MirrorLink™ technology? MirrorLink™ installed in the infotainment system allows compatible smartphones to display and control applications on-screen."

There is a similar option called 'SmartGate' which is additional. MirrorLink however should just be there. (http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/models/new-yeti/technology)

I just think it's a case that a step was forgotten/missed somehow so it's not activated in the vehicle.

Could you please look into how I can get MirrorLink activated/installed? Or, if you prefer to put me in touch with someone in Skoda Ireland I can follow up with them directly.

We will have to wait and see!

I personally feel it's lack of product knowledge and not necessarily that the System does not have the capability.

I'll get back to you later with the Sat Nav in-dash pics.

    Cheers,

  12. Hi Folks,

Recently took delivery of a brand new Yeti 2.0 Tdi 140hp Dsg Sherpa Outdoor.

One of the options I ordered is the Amundsen+ Navigation System. Everything I have read says that head unit includes MirrorLink. The menu icons on the unit itself suggest the same - there is an option for MirrorLink.

However, I'm unable to use it... Regardless of whether or not a phone(with MirrorLink) is connected I get the following message:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/h9qm4jb2a0vxrok/Mirrorlink.jpg?dl=0

Has anyone ever encountered this before? Any idea what an activation key is, how I get one and why it wasn't done before delivery? :wonder:

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

    Cheers,

    SB

  13. I can't really see what benefit smartgate is though?

Ehhh... Turning your stereo 'up to 11' and dropping the windows while running this bad boy! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.skodaauto.motorsound

Really though, as Garnett says - It's a case of loving tech and having to have the latest kit(albeit not proven to be greatest). I like the live telemetry stuff too!

In case you haven't seen it scroll about half way down this page to the SmartGate Apps section. Some just Gamify driving, others provide useful vehicle data.

I'm also pretty confident we'll see more and more apps/features over time. Why not have everything in place for when they arrive!

  14. Thanks for the update, considering this myself so interested to hear how you go with it - keep us posted. Which dealer you using? Bit of luck it'll be same as me, MSL Park Motors, and I won't have to explain it! :D

I went through Annesley Williams but considering they had never heard of it it probably doesn't matter too much!

Here is the thread between Annesley's Parts department and VWGI:

    Annesley Williams

    ----------------------------------

Part # 5L0063218 is for a Yeti but I don't know if they are truly vehicle specific...

Spoke to the guys in Annesley's and they said they couldn't find anything on the system searching "SmartGate" and wouldn't have found it had I not provided the code...

One for the Octavia looks to be slightly more expensive. Strange! Anyway, give Park Motors code 5E0063218 (sourced here) and they should find it no problem. They will likely tell you(as AW told me) that it's not in stock in the UK and could take months to get from the factory. You can assure them that VWGI have confirmed they're in factory stock and shouldn't take long :p Also - while searching for installation instructions I came across this for your car - http://www.cars-equipment.com/www/en/shop/skoda/oem-5e0063218-smart-gate-for-skoda/ - I know nothing about the site so would advise the usual cautions, look for reviews etc, before placing an order!

I will of course keep everyone up to date on how I get on, and scan whatever installation instructions come with my SmartGate and post them for those interested.

    Cheers,

  15. Will report back on it asap! I won't hold my breath as two things I've always noticed between dealing with UK dealers and those over here (Ireland) are

    1) The dealers here are the biggest spoofers going. Claiming things that aren't any way correct at all eg. There won't be an L&K model for this Octavia. Two months later it's in the showroom! The few dealers I've dealt with over there were a little more honest. More often than not I was told 'I don't know' or 'I'm no sure' and I appreciate that more than an outright lie. They'd go to the trouble to find out though..!

    2) The dealers here offer terrible discounts. If I so much as even thought about looking for a deal that's anything like drivethedeal over there I'd be shot. I don't think I've ever gotten a discount near 5%.

Like others here I found the SmartGate module on the Skoda eShop but, they won't ship outside CZ. Got in touch with a local dealer, gave him the part number from the eShop and he was able to find it.

He contacted Volkswagen Group Ireland to check on availability and their logistics team advised they are in stock in the factory and would be with him in 7 - 10 days. RRP in Ireland is €180(For my Yeti anyway) and they've agreed to do it for €160. Nobody in the dealership had ever heard of it but the product comes with fitting instructions. I will be asking them to fit it as soon as it arrives and will keep you posted.

    Cheers,

    SB

  16. Fitting is relatively straightforward. The problem is identifying and sourcing a suitable flappy paddle steering wheel with the same switches as the existing steering wheel and the same airbag too to keep costs down. I don't want a steering wheel with a vRS badge like one member opted for and I would like the wheel to match the existing one.

Makes sense! Have you had any luck so far? Is the required wiring already there due to the fact we have DSG models?

  17. Hi There,

While I am a Yeti owner - not a Fabia owner. I am very interested in your experiences with Mirrorlink! I just took delivery of a brand new vehicle with Mirrorlink via an Amundsen+ Nav. Though I'm getting a strange message about activation...

Don't suppose anyone has come across this before?...

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/h9qm4jb2a0vxrok/Mirrorlink.jpg?dl=0

Apologies if my vehicle model disqualifies me from joining this conversation - if it does, let me know and I'll remove the post.

    Cheers,

    SB

  18. Welcome to Briskoda from another new Yeti owner. :)

    Cheer Mate thanks!

    Congratulations on your new

Just curious - I see you have "Flappy paddle steering wheel pending"... Is that easily retro-fit? Perhaps there's another forum we can discuss this in if the welcome form isn't the right place!

  19. Good Afternoon All,

Just a very brief note to say I am the new and very happy owner of a Yeti 2.0 Tdi 140hp Dsg Sherpa Outdoor and figured I'd join the crew here!

My new bus is Black Magic Pearl on the black 17" Matterhorn Rims. Threw a few toys on for good measure:

Bi-Xenon headlamps with rotary modules, dynamic and angle adjustment & integrated telescopic head lamp washers,

Light Assistant (Coming Home, Leaving Home, Tunnel Light),

Electrically adjustable auto-dimming heated external mirrors and Boarding Spots – entry area illumination

    Amundsen+ Navigation system

Driver and front passenger seats with adjustable lumbar support

    Heated front seats

I also currently own a CL500 & Range Rover HSE(previous-gen, 2004 reg) and have always had Mercs before that. This is my first venture into the realms of Skoda and I am very impressed.

Really here to learn about the car, contribute what I can and perhaps ask a few questions!

I am a massive car lover, am happily married and my wife and I live in Dublin Ireland with our doggie!

Hope that's acceptable by way of an introduction.

Looking forward to learning from and speaking with you all.

    Cheers,
