  1. I was reading some of this guesswork and it is hypothesised that it will include those hybrids with significant EV range. Presumably those newer ones that can do over 100 kms on lecky as they would get whacked too, presumably as a percentage they would be reckoned to run on lecky rather than that excise duty ICE power.
  2. Only 13 cm ie 5 inches shorter than an R5 but massively less capable. Applaud use of LFP batteries, thought it might be at least 30 kwh to be signicantly better than the Spring which can be had for about £11k. Spring is dye to come out soon with about a 100 hp motor. Needs to get better wheels and tyres D already feels skitty. ICE Twingo was a real hoot. Turning circle like a London Cab and more power than the electric Twingo. Twingo etech needs more battery, more power etc sk hope there will be a hot version. I recall Renault paired with Smart was it, using their relationship abd part ownership of Mercedes to do a hot 120 hp version. We need that as well as a better base model I reckon.
  3. But also how much more, ie spend just a couple of thousabd more, or few thousand more and get something a whole quantum better. If the Twingo is £19k but you can get a 40 kwh Renault 5 for £21k, or a 52 kwh R5 for £23k or a Megane e for £26k tgen tge Twingo looks not so good a bargain. Then there is the Leapmotor T3 and soon to be updated Spring. I want to see the Twingo do well but I think Renault may not have got it right. Selling A segment cars is the hardest of all segments for Europeans.
  4. Twingo to be only 27 kwh battery, air cooled like my Zoe and LFP battery tech. Hmm.
  5. No details how this could work. Torygraph speculation without substance as usual.
  6. I tried all sorts but they were steadfast. I got discount which Renault have instructed not to give on the R5 as hey are in such demand. Tried to say I will have the Pop Green with the damaged rear bumper and the local dealer can fix but no joy. There is a claim against the shipping company presumably, thankful not us as we move about 4m finished cars a year but don't do this little run from Dieppe to Portbury Bristol. Same seats in terms of build as the Techno and Iconic but a simply two tune dark rather than the yellowy seats. I, and my son, would only get chocolate or similar on the seats so safer bet with dark than the yellow. No in-built Google maps etc so just auto-link to Android Auto. Frankly have both the phone Google and the car Google running at the same time is a pain as switch from one to another, as I do in the Scenic, and it wipes the journey in the other system. Each system has their advantages. In theory the car google estimates battery SOC at arrival but it is so over estimating on power use it is worse than useless. Should be able to precondition battery but again never had that work properly and generally I think it is just a waste of energy unless you are in very cold climates and need to charge early in the journey which should be between rare and never for me with the R5. Came across this video which is so funny and harps back to the early noughties Ali G video with the body kitted original R5. Promoting Reggie Land rather than the Renault 5. Has to be yellow, no matter what the cost and should get in back as will probably keep the R5 for the next decade or two. Renault's natural colour is yellow like Skoda is green IMO.
  7. I have to change my Renault 5 to Yellow as the pop green i was due to get was found be damaged at the import centre. Did not want to have the yellow which attracts an £800 premium but that was only choice to get about sams time as Zie going back. Picking up next Wednesday and Zie going back to Renault on the Thursday. 15 hp less than the Zoe but torque per kilowatt similar so acceleration similar. Bit less range than the Zoe. Two thirds of the price the Zoe was 4 years ago. No Google inbuilt on the Evolution model i am getting so will use Andoid auto. No Reno assist I expect which reminds of that annoying paperclip figure with MS Windows No rear camera, just beep beep. Looking for aftermarket arm rest but have order after market cup holders. No stupid 5 bar charge indicator on the bonnet either. Still gets the 10 inch infotainment screen. Looking forward to trying it on the twisties with its multilink suspension. Twinge launch very soon but RHD versions sound like a good year away !
  8. Be hard to be worse reputation than the original ICE Frontera. Not sure where you got the 0-62 time for my Scenic. 8.6s claimed but two measurements average out as 9.1 s to 100 kph so about 8.8 to 60 mph https://zeperfs.com/en/fiche12689-renault-scenic-v-e-tech-ev60.htm I thought it looked quite roomy in the back for a C segment car. This is the strong point of EV Frontera, Citroen C3 e etc and poor acceleration and poor high speed energy use is part of the package but to some people 12s 0-100 kph i s fine for them but I suspect when fully loaded it will be poor and even struggle up hills but for relatively small money, also Vauxhall were throwing in £500 charging as part of the package so incredible cheap running cost. Picking up Renault 5, Pop Yellow sadly instead of the Pop Green I preferred but hey ho. Even with "only" 120 hp it still does 0-60 in 9 second, handles well with multi link suspension on the rear. Just not great for giants in the back but that is what the Scenic is for.
  9. I had considered the Renault 4 but found it still small in the back seats, if I ever get demoted to there, probably had a drink or two so a trade off but the Frontier looks a better buy than the R4 and stunning value. The EV is £2K less than the ICE- Hybrid version I gather. Not usually a Stellantis fan but the 308 EV I had in Lisbon was quite nice and this Frontera does look very useful and very good value, as a second car for me (but probably going ahead with the R5 today). I imagine its motorway economy in the EV version is going to be pretty bad and similar to the Citroen C3 e and other members of the family and in those cases where motorway is oft used or the Frontera was the only car one had then the hybrid option would seem a logical choice. Tiny hybrid battery like my Arkana was ie sub 1 kwh but still helps mpg round town. No speed demon but a useful all rounded in EV or hybrid form for relatively not a lot on money ?
  10. Helps, the EV familiarity and Engineering qualifications and experience. Not sure what is meant by the hacking it, please explain ? Going to watch the Liverpool v Villa game now and got to be up early to pop off and getting wedding suit sorted so enough banter for now...
  11. And with EV Salary sacrifice, as with pension Salary Sacrifice, one can get ones Gross Pay under 100k or even £50k, and avoid those higher rates of tax and loss of tax free allowance. Play the governments tax game and its win win ! Tax planning is for everyone, Duke of Westminster, well one of them, said that. Head screwed on, not up ones ass, means a more comfortable life for us and our families as well as being a good citizen and being in harmony with what previous and current government want us to do to be in tune.
  12. Also follow government policy, last shower and this one, and take advantage of the tax incentives that they and many governtments offer to accelerate the transition from ICE to EV !
  13. My cars are not killing people, ICE cars are. Might be only a few tens of thousands of shortened lives in the uk but it is millions throughout the world India and other large Asian etc cities. My cars just hum along, playing their Jean Michelle Jarre low speed warning, no tail pipe emissions with NOX triggering asthma attacks. Every time someone in an ICE car turns the ignition key, pushes the power button it it is another little nail in our future on forwarding the climate crisis which our children and grandchildren will inherit. They will not thank us.
  14. Only a few years on boats, if you should call a 100,000 tonne bulk carrier a boat. Apart from Department of Transport and HMCE for a decade was then head hunted by pwc, the world lagest Accountancy and Consultancy firm. Then UK largest customs software firm and now one of the top 3, depends how you measure it, international logistics firms. It is great though to do diverse work and be rewarded with a six figured salary after all the study and experience.
  15. I love petrol cars, even diesel ones but they are killing huge numbers of people and fuelling climate change. I chose to be an Engineering Officer in the Merchant Navy, worked on 20,000 hp main propulsion diesel engines as well as 1000 hp disel generators. Studied thermodynamic in my Engineering cadetship as well as at honours degree level. But the Internal combustion engine has had its day, or even century, and decades, at that was a few years ago now and time to move on and try and save the world else hurricanes like Malissa will just get worse and worse. I hope COP 30 will see a leap forward. Now Ethopia has there new hydroelectric dam they have sensible stopped importing of most ICE cars. Citizens should buy EVs and use the abundant and cheap electricity. STOP BURNING STUFF !!!
  16. Onwards and upwards indeed My work with central government, Department of Transport and HMCE, HMRC probably pale into insignificance with you work with the local council, quite so, well pointed out. Any road, back to EVs rather than Swifts, MX5 etc .....
  17. Indeed my Renault 5 i am due to pick up this week I just a nidge over £20k but i get most of the amount on 0% for 25 months so in real terms it will be less than £20k for the European Car of the Year. A few compromises as the pop green 💚 is the free colour and the very nice pop yellow is £800 addition, ouch. This current basd spec comes with just a 40/43 kwh so nearly 200 mile range in dawdle mode but if one wang it at the uk national speed plus limit one will not get much over 100 miles which will horify petrol heads but those of use to living with EVs with the smaller battery options can live with. There is going to be a Renault 5 FIVE which will be even cheaper ie 95 hp, no DC fast charging that will be about 23k Euros ie under £20k, £19k maybe with a bit of haggling, same 40/43 kwh battery as my R5. Hyundai Inster is a good machine and good value. BYDs little EVs god value but will UK continue not apply Countervailing import duty and then there is the very cheap MGs, if one is ok with their reliability rating. Lots of choice and brilliant cheap running costs.
  18. Million is peanuts compared to the recent total of £3.6B spent on asylum accommodation.
  19. Yes of course. Sometimes get Aberdeen and Inverness locations wrong. Be interested to hear what Scots think of Westminster using that Highlands base for asylum seekers ? Think my dad might have done his infantry training from there. I did my Officer character training in the Cullen Ridge in Skye. As soon to retire must reacquaint myself with an epic car journey to the Highlands.
  20. Large ie 6m by 6m at least fire blankets should be on hand at all EV charging sites to put over the EV. Not so easy for just one person to do rather than a two person operation. Some thought needed on how to deploy such fire blankets. Perhaps some system like those fast deploy tents. I have fire blankets near my larger lithium batteries just in case. If filling petrol and diesel cars were safe from fuel fumes then why do we get shouted across the speakers from the kiosk staff for using mobile phones or smoking on the forecourt. Being an ex diesel engine apprentice, marine main engine, generators i have snorted more than my fair share of diesel fumes. Like with asbestosis, what coal miners got, smokers etc, it is a lottery whether one get cancer abd other diseases from these poisons, luck of the draw. Busy week ahead with EVs, climate change after hurricane Melissa and COP 30 coming up. Wake up call for everyone !
  21. A great stop for doing the NC500. Is true about sow cars, caravans and motor homes crawling along the route spoiling the driving pleasure sometimes, oft ? There are some good picturesque roads in Wales too, and Cornwall and Ireland, true for Gaul and Basque too, odd most great drives and I the Celtic areas !!
  22. The recirc system is not perfect and whilst the low pressure recirc system gets much of the gas it is not perfect and some hydrocarbons get past this system which has improved things but is not 100%. Quick check shows data which state 85 to 95% recovery. Suggest you take some of you own advice, possibly get a science degree to add to your arts degree ?
  23. Ohh, my R5 should be here in the week coming. Zoe going back to Renault on the 13th so will have 4 EVs for a few days on the drive. My Evolution Urban 40 kwh is fairly stripped out but what does one expect for a bit over £20k plus most on 0% finance. No cup holders or arm centre arm rest which is a bit annoying but order this below, £12 delivered. Really want the baguette holder but they are £100 as is the V2L adapter but will look to get both, maybe not genuine Renault but if it works and looks OK.
  24. I like elephants, and Laura Brannigan
  25. Aberdeen showing the way as EV charging company Fasned get approval for indoor charging and location with facilities...... https://www.electrifying.com/blog/article/raining-champ-fastned-plans-first-indoor-charging-hub#:~:text=Fastned%20could%20become%20the%20raining,that%20found%20in%20petrol%20stations. Of course could not really do this with an ICE vehicle refuelling station as it has to be outdoors to waft waft away the foul smelling, carsogenic gases released when refuelling as well as a much increased fire risk doing such refuelling inside.
