I have exactly the same issue on mine so will be interesting to see if you cure it.
I was going to wait till the warmer weather and remove headlining to see where it leaks from.

I might be wrong but i think Carista does'nt work on a mk1.
Im also pretty sure any bluetooth or wireless dongle will be fine (i use a wireless dongle which cost about £7 on amazon)

Assuming you have a smart phone. You can buy a cheap obd2 reader from the internet that links to your phone via wireless or via bluetooth.
Handy little tool to keep in the ashtray/glovebox etc. Not as in depth as VCDS but can get you a better understanding of what the codes are.
I replaced my MAF after having similar symptoms with a bosch refurb unit from a local motorfactors on exchange basis and its been great ever since.

I don't think it should with belt plugged in.

The chimes are just a reminder to put your seatbelt on.

I think these are the ones I bought. They are definitely brighter, I will try and take some pictures if I get a chance.
The listing is for 10 so I bought 20 and for £1.98 can't complain at that price.

Well I bought myself a regulator off of eBay and now have a working electric window for the first time in 18 months..
When I removed motor off the old one the cables were like a birds nest around the gear on the motor.
Also anyone doing this remember to reconnect doir release cable before refitting door card

Well after owning my octy for 18 months thought I would finally investigate why the rear passenger window has never worked..
It clicks when buttons pressed on drivers door panel but no power to rear door.
So I took off the rear door card which was easier than I expected and this is what I found..
I'm thinking the regulator is knackered and it's been bodged rather than repaired..
The reason for no power was it wasn't even plugged in and now I know why.
Any ideas?

I replaced mine with a standard second hand one from a mk4 golf.

I had the same problem. Managed to solve it the same way as bowders by removing roof trim and a bead of sealant along where any cracks were in the paint.

I have Beru coilpacks in my octy and they've been brilliant.

Hope you enjoy vrs ownership. I love mine. It might not be the cleanest or most reliable but puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

A scan is always a good starting point. If there are codes showing up these could be old. Depends when it last had a scan.
Dead battery
in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)

Mine did exactly this when battery died. would start fine first thing then after driving if i stopped at a petrol station it wouldn't start unless bumped.
Did this for a few weeks until one cold morning where the battery had completely failed and i couldn't get it started at all.
