  1. Being an avid Model kit builder (I know, sad), there are a number of 'liquid mask' solutions available.

They are a sort of fluid, typically applied by fine brush, left to dry to a rubbery sort of finish then painted over (spray paint that is)

Once dry, carefully peel off the mask using a toothpick or similar.

A company called Humbrol do a product called Maskol, cheap to buy if it doesn't work but may be worth a try?

    Thanks Mence,

I've ordered something off ebay. It's supposed to be for model enthusiasts.

I am hoping to apply it with a wooden touch up stick....Hopefully be more accurate than a brush

  2. I have a bit of an issue with an old PC setup I use in the garage.

The last week or so when you power up the tower it starts as normal and load screen comes on the monitor, After 30 seconds it just dies completely.

Monitor goes into sleep mode and the Tower loses all power. It will start up straight away when the power button is pressed but the monitor is staying in sleep mode.

Switching both off and back on still sees the monitor in sleep, If I disconnect the monitor from the tower the monitor powers up but immediately goes into sleep mode when connected to the tower again.

Are the tower dieing and monitor going into sleep related?

Does it sound more like graphics card or PSU faulty?

Any advice other than bin it all :D

  3. Any decals online perhaps? something you could apply after spraying/painting?

I'll keep an eye out for something.... and think of some ideas Terry.

Decals would have to go on before painting so they could be removed afterwards to allow the light to shine through.

  4. I like your thinking...... something over the illuminated section that would repel the paint.

It's not something i've attempted; but one to research a bit more.

Might even be worth buying an adhoc button/panel to test out your ideas first and practise - before attempting the W8 panel/buttons.

I've got some Vauxhall spare switch gear, I shall experiment on one of them first.

  5. Its a nice mod to get the W8 light fitted.

Masking will be tricky indeed; especially as the black paint may flake around the maaked area.

Not sure what else to suggest mate - unless you find someone who has found a robust and repeatable solutio

I did wonder about covering the Illuminated parts with something that I could remove after painting. I had Pencil in mind but not sure if that would work.

  6. Perhaps I'm biased as I drive a heavy goods but I don't think the LGV driver intentionally hit the other car.

From the video it seemed like the car driver sped up to hold the wagon in lane 3, Having said that he should never have been in that lane to start with.

It is hard to judge if you've fully passed a vehicle you're overtaking especially at night, Much of it is judgement and perhaps a flash from the vehicle you're overtaking.

The truck driver has either thought it was clear to pull back in or he was trying to spook the car driver into slowing down so he could pull back in.

For those that think the wagon driver should have just stuck behind the car should try sitting behind a tool doing those speeds in lane 2 and not be able to pass them. Sometimes you just have a bad day and you get a rush of blood to the head.

Having said that I am paid by the hour so slow move down as much as you please :D

I've never used the outside lane but I have spooked a few car drivers who think it's ok to stick me in lane 2 and leave me there. This is generally after I have been courtious enough to move out into lane 2 so they can join the motorway, Generally now I won't move over for cars. Reason being if they don't have the sense to adjust their speed to either safely get in front or behind me then they probably won't let me back into lane 1.

I've hit a few things in a LGV and they cause a lot more damage than on his car, That's a slight graze which was avoidable by both parties.

Personally I'd ban both drivers for 1 year.

  7. Primarily it is just to lose the gap between tyre and arch.

I do love a spirited drive on twisted roads but wouldn't track the Octy, I have a Turbo Cavalier for tracking.

Thanks for the advise chaps, Obviously it's not worth the extra money for damping adjustment. I don't mind the ride firming up a bit but don't want it to be back breaking....I'm not 20 anymore :D

  8. I did narrow it down to Bilstein or KW, Having googled around H&R also seem to get good reviews. I just can't decide if I should stick with just height adjustment or pay a big chunk more and go for rebound and compression adjustment.

I really don't want a really stiff ride.

Have you found anywhere reasonably priced yet?

  9. I'm looking at fitting ARB's and Coilovers to my PreFL VRS.

I've been looking at Bilstein either B14 or B16, Has anybody any experience with these?

What are my options for ARB upgrades and any suggestions for the cheapest supplier of both coilovers and ARBs?

If anyone has pics of VRS dropped between 30-50mm it would be appreciated.
