  1. As said above, 2006 models did not have a working cruise control warning light. It is down to the software in the instrument cluster. The cruise light only became available was 2007 onwards.

VCDS won't test any light if it isn't connected up in the cluster -- and the early ones were orange, not green.

Have a look on the option code sticker in the boot/service book. and you will probably see the code 6Y9 which means that no cruise control is fitted. Even when you retrofit and code the car for cruise, your light will not work if the instrument cluster was manufactured before 2007.

There is another option code 9BD which is defined as "Add. electric safety package for Saudi Arabia (cruise control warning system)" -- so the Saudi market had it working, but not the rest of the world.

    Mike

EDIT I will have a look at the option codes on my late 2004 and early 2008 models, both have factory cruise, but the 2004 did not have a working warning light from the factory. I will try to see what the different cruise codes are.

EDIT AGAIN -- well that theory is discounted. BOTH my Octavias have the 6Y0 code which translates as Cruise control fitted but no warning system -- yet the 08 plate came out of the factory with a working cruise light

Mike, thanks for taking time to explain.

However, I can't figure out why would Skoda sell a car with factory fitted CC without CC active light, even though there's a CC symbol on the dash?

I'm really curious in hearing your answers on this, thanks

  2. Just performed Instrument output test, it showed:

    4x gauges test,

    Maxidot test,

    some beeps test,

    diesel pre-warm light,

    immobiliser light,

    seat-belt light (activated),

    handbrake (!) light,

+ MIL, battery and bulb failure lights were on all the time.

    No CC light.

TPMS light was also not "tested" (it's not activated), but I assume every O2 has it on the dash by default?

If so, I figure VCDS is not testing every available LED symbol?

I reckon we can prove this theory by deactivating "seatbelt warning" and perform the test again?

Or maybe VCDS is testing only the "warning lights" (red and orange) and not the green ones?  :nerd:

  3. You might be able to do a test with vcds to see if it lights up

If you don't have it, then it probably doesn't have the LED and the cluster eeprom would need to be modified for it to work

Regarding the CC dash light again:

I've read on another topic that MY06 Octavia TDI PD should have active light (mine is exactly MY06 TDI PD, with Maxidot, for Croatian market though).

If I perform Instrument output test on VCDS, should all available lights come up, or just the activated ones?

'Cause I don't have CC activated, but want to test if it'll light up when I retrofit and activate one  :nerd:

  4. Secondly, is there meant to be a spring that pulls the handbrake down when released? I have to depress the button and push the handbrake down as there is no spring action acting on it? This happens even if the handbrake is pulled up but hasn't clicked, it will remain in the position its let go in?

On B5.5 Passat there are springs on both sides of rear brake caliper "controling" the handbrake, don't know if Octavia has the same system?

  5. I'm not sure. It's related to the dash clock somehow as cars that have a new clock cluster fitted (for maxidot) suddenly gain the CC light so it's not dependent on the car but the cluster.

So it's either hardware or software related.

I guess you could take the clocks out and have a look to see if there is an LED there.

I don't quite understand, are you suggesting that clusters with Maxidot should have CC light, regardless of MY?

You might be able to do a test with vcds to see if it lights up

If you don't have it, then it probably doesn't have the LED and the cluster eeprom would need to be modified for it to work

Good idea, I'll try to test it with VCDS

  6. Just curious about CC active light on the dash (on MY06 or older versions) -

Is it just the LED issue, or there isn't any signal coming to that "place" on dash?

In other words, if I solder an LED on the place where CC active light should be, will it work?

Because there is the symbol on the dash:

  7. Hi,

Just fitted one of these to my 56 plate L&K, went in with easy fit, I have the MFD and steering wheel controls, the only thing I had to add was the VW bluetooth microphone with the OEM lead and green 12 pin plug (bought from auction site).

The green plug then slotted into the Skoda plug framework which holds the other plugs and fitted straight into the back of the DS820.

Original FM aerial plugged straight in, came with satelitte aerial, which I have just loosly fitted behind head unit.

Then slots into existing surround (previous Stream MP3). Everything works, well, including rear parking sensors and steering wheel controls. However a few niggles that I need to sort out:

Time/date doesn't seem to want to change from (what I presume is China time zone), changess for a few seconds and then resets, this is also on the satelitte setup.

    Speed is in KMH

Doesn't show climate control settings (which it is supposed to)

Otherwise, was a very easy fit and works really well, can connect to multiple mobile phone, downloads the address book for quick calling, screen is excellent, so if I can get the issues sorted, then really pleased.

On a B5.5 Passat I had "chinese" HU. About the time issue --> had to take out GPS maps SD card and than adjust the time.

    Maybe it's similar on yours?

Best thing would be to contact seller about that issue, think they should know how to sort it.

    Good luck

  8. You missed out 10! :( (and 60)

    Your explanation of 5x and 0x is correct, but you have 6x and 1x the wrong way round. March is the year; 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 etcetera, and September is the year with a prefix;61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66 etcetera.

To make it a little more complicated, a car can have a personalised plate that is older - but never newer than when it was registered.

Yeah, read it on Wikipedia, thanks

  9. I'm sure they are crazily bright but the price?! Hard to say yes to these

I've got multi SMD W5W LEDs in the boots of both my hatch and estate, and they are more than adequate for the job.

    Mike

Can you provide with some link or a photo of those? I'm using "standard" 5 SMD LED W5W bulbs but not happy with the light output.

  10. Hi, my suggestions sre:

First link: No need to buy Canbus ones for interior.

Second link: Not very bright LEDs, I'd avoid them.

Third link: Good brightness for reading lights in the interior. Satisfaying for mirror puddle lights also.

I suppose you'll need festoon bulb for main interior light?

And I wouldn't bother with W5W style bulbs in the boot, at least not in O2 preFL, cause they are too "weak" for Octavia's big boot. I would recommend some improvisation with festoon LED lights in the boot (of course if not OEM style is an option).

Tell me what you think  :notme:

  11. Thanks!

Ran just fine this morning at correct temp which is frustrating . Will change the cts and coolant and see if that solves it I think before the actual thermostat.

    Kirk

Though I'm afraid it's the thermostat, cause had the same symptoms on Opel (Vauxhall) Astra, changed the thermostat and everything was working normal again.

    Good luck

  12. Just drove home from work again and in the 15 miles or so it's warmed up to 90, before dropping to as low as 60. Jumping up and down between 60 and 90 a couple of times quite quickly.

Got home, sat on drive for a few minutes and it went back and sat at 90.

Having searched the site could it be the coolant temprature sensor ( easier fix I believe ) or thermostat?

Heater work fine for info. And is it safe to drive in the meantime until I can get it in to garage?

    Thanks,

    Kirk

Low temperature is damaging the engine in long term, but nothing will happen if you drive it few miles till you get to garage.  ;)

(Assuming it's the thermostat, not the temp sensor that is faulty)

  13. Thanks, James!

Hopefully won't be any problems... on the other hand, it's quite easy to change the headlight unit on Octavia, so I could change it back to normal halogen headlamp once a year  :D

Anyhow, I'll definitely start a new topic about progress of retrofitting the headlights, so you can all walk me through with suggestions and help

  14. Hello everyone,

My name is Semir and I'm living in Croatia.

I have Octavia 2 Sportstyle 1.9 TDI  (2006) for few months now and I'm very happy with the car!

Anyhow, I'm kind of a light enthusiast so I'm getting prepared to retrofit the headlights to Bi-xenon projector headlight, with 4300K xenon (so far I have a stock halogen headlight without projectors).

** I'm familiar with the law regulation that it's illegal to have xenon headlights without washers and self-levelling, and I'm familiar with the fact that I'm risking to dazzle others in traffic, although I'll be using xenon projector lens **

(so please, I think there's no need to mention it in my posts, thank you  )

Hope to hear lots of suggestions and to get help in retrofitting the headlight. Along with other usefull comments, of course.

    :notme:

Btw, feel free (I encourage you) to correct my English, it would help me learn it faster, thanks  ;)

    :hi:
