  1. Hi Folks, I have a 2009 Mk II Superb with approx. 105k miles on the clock. Does anyone know what the recommended service interval should be between full servicing? i.e. all oils, filters, etc. I normally try to get the car serviced every 5k miles but wanted to check as it's over the 100k on the clock. Thanks folks. John
  2. Hi Superb drivers across the UK and Ireland. I wanted to share an update with you guys on the recent problem I've had with my 2009 MkII Superb, specifically the dreaded Columbus RNS510 unit. About a month ago; the unit gave up, in that it would attempt to start (showing the skoda flash screen for ~5 seconds), then go to a blank screen, with no sound, or any functionality. Knowing the bad reputation the Columbus has, I was fearful it was the end of the unit and I'd have to replace it. I rang my local Skoda main dealer in Ireland and a new Columbus for my car is €2,100 (£1,900) and even looking for a used one from a crashed car for example, would have set me back about €600. Cutting to the chase; HUGE credit needs to be given to Rustynuts. The guy is a legend and saved me a whole lot of money and grief. He walked me through the process of trying to kick-start the Columbus back to life by installing a firmware upgrade. It worked:) It took about 40 mins overall and now the unit is back working with almost everything as it should be. I need to sort out the sat nav maps, but hoping that's not a huge issue. this is a great forum and I'm so happy with the result of looking here, rather than spending huge amounts of cash to fix the issue that cost me €5 for a pack of DVD-R's.
  3. Honorary, See below the replacement unit you need to buy to connect the Iphone 5S to the Columbus. I bought a superb last year and had the exact same issue. I got it on ebay for about €100 delivered. It's mounted under the drivers seat and is simple to fit (Plug N Play). No can do speed dials from the columbus or full control on the Maxidot. 4. never seen this before, but it does look really cool. I've the columbus too, and it sucks:( there are other optiosn which i've come across also, see link below. IF my columbus does eventually die, I'll be getting something like these...... http://www.kenwood.com/usa/car/navigation_multimedia/ddx9703s/ let us know if you make a purchase.
  5. I've similar issues with mine...it still works, BUT I'm as nervous as a giraffe on roller blades about my Columbus. I'm just waiting for the day it won't work at all then I'll have to splash out the cash for a new one. IF it does go kaput, I think i'll install a new android unit or something from kenwood for example. they've got some really cool head units. Good luck with it, sounds like a software upgrade alright as the guys have said. PS: anything Columbus related, Rustynutes is the guru and usually right.
  6. overall, you'll find Skoda really are "clever" in their design. I'm sure you could retrofit another cup holder on the side of the dash?.....i'm only driving my skoda less than a year and for the first few weeks i loved the extra little things you'd find out about the car I didn't expect....you could try something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Car-Air-Vent-Outlet-Mount-Cups-Bottle-Beverage-Drinks-Stand-Holder-Bracket-/121873801129 or a one that hangs off the inside of the drivers door like this; http://www.amazon.com/TARION-Universal-Vehicle-Multifunction-Adjustable/dp/B00CJ7HTNI
  7. no, only those two in the front beside the handbrake. I presume you'll have see the 2 in the rear seat arm rest.
  8. hi.....fellow Cork man here:) Sounds like the elegance model, which i bought last year. mine has the 18" alloys, which came with a full alloy as spare. The usual kit comes like the jack, wheel brace, a double sided screwdriver, a black plastic clip/gripper to pull the nut caps off.....and a lock nut for the allows. The first aid kit wasn't in mine, so not sure it that comes as standard. The umbrella in the door is a standard supplied item, but chances are the previous owner will have taken it. It you need a replacement (like i did), i bought one from E Tarrent online, €50 delivered. I also bought genuine Skoda mudflaps front and rear from them. just some items to double check before you buy; timing belt and pump shocks....heavy enough car, so make sure they're good. Bluetooth - if you've an apple iphone, there's a good chance it won't connect. Depends on the model of bluetooth kit under the drivers seat. Easily replaced if that is an issue for you. I got a new black box bluetooth kit on ebay for about €60 overall a great car too be fair. good luck.
  9. Hi, I've my superb almost a year and that same "service now" message comes up every 120 miles. It's extremely annoying, but i've learned to go and reset the MFD about once a month. Take it to a garage or someone with a VCDS to reset the service interval.
  10. Can i ask, why debadge your skoda, or any car for that matter? People will still know what type of car it is.
  11. Hi, I'd the exact same problem a month ago. I bought a universal GPS antenna, see link below. Fitting it in 10 mins. you simply remove the Columbus unit, unplug the existing GPS connector (Blue square connector) and put the new one in it's place. What this leaves you with the Radio Aerial still coming from the shark fin aerial unit on the roof, but the GPS is now the universal black square component, under the dash. I used sticky back velcro pads to stick it to the top of the heating vent. if works PERFECTLY and cheap as chips to fix. I did think about opening up the shark fin to repair the connection, but that would be a massive amount of effort compared to the fix above. I suspect the shark fin has been damaged from drive through car washes, even despite screwing off the radio aerial. It's a design flaw with these aerials by all accounts. Order one of these below, and that should get you sorted. 12. hi, I've a 2009 superb with the Columbus unit. there is a limit of 2GB SD Cards, which sucks...as their hard to find nowadays and you might as well just load the music (Mp4 format) into the HDD.
  13. hi....I got my first superb elegance 7 months ago....and had the same issue with my iphone 5s. I have the columbus head unit in my car, but that actually has nothing to do with the bluetooth connection. Underneath the drivers seat, there is a plastic cover which hides the phone Bluetooth module. It sound's like your phone is not compatible with the current module. You need to find out what module is compatible with your phone. for example, with my iphone, this is the unit i got . NEW 2015 VW SKODA SEAT BLUETOOTH WI-FI HOT SPOT MODULE 3C8035730E 3C8 035 730 E I'd say your best bet is to go to eBay and search for VW SKODA SEAT BLUETOOTH WI-FI HOT SPOT MODULE and contact the seller to see if it works with your nokia. I'd also check this forum, as I found lots of posts for the iphone 5s. Word of warning, there are SO many model numbers, that you need to confirm with the seller the module you are buying is compatible with the nokia. hope that helps a little
  14. Hi, I'm new to Skoda and this whole problem over the twin door wirign loom. So far, mine seems ok, but I'm wondering have people identified this problem occurring due to opening the small boot door, rather that the whole hatchback door? Would it be better practice to protect the life of the wiring loom to only start using the boot from now on with the full boot open, rather that just the same boot door?
