  1. I intended to replace the suction mount with a self adhesive one but in 2 months it hasn't fallen off so for now I've left the suction mount. It is still on the dotted shaded area of the screen and obviously holds fine. It is quite small maybe 1 1/4" diameter.

    Thanks for your reply Robert.

  2. Im pretty sure on the DSG i just have to push the accelerator again to wake up the ACC, no need to touch the lever.

    Only if the car self-brakes. If you manually apply the brakes then the ACC is cancelled and the lever must be pulled back to resume its previous setting.

  3. I have a brilliant car cover.........its called a Garage!!!.....sorry, couldn't resist that.

    You must be one of the very few to actually put a car in your garage. Seems strange because I thought they were for washing machines, bikes, pushchairs, home brewing equipment and all sorts of crap that should be taken to the dump.

    I guess it takes all sorts - live and let live.

  4. The following explanations exist:

    1. The fuel level sensor in the car isn't working properly;

    2. Sainsbury's pump isn't showing the correct amount of dispensed fuel;

    3. The fuel tank is larger than stated in the manual;

    4. Human error - not noticing the reserve fuel indicator;

    5. Human error - misreading the bill or the pump meter.

    6. Fuel leak.

    Occam's razor anyone? ;)

    I have used occam's razor and shaved things down to number 3.

  5. Petrol was getting low but hadn't reached the red zone hence no reserve warning so I estimate at least 7 litres left.

    Filled up at Sainsburys (nectar points) to the point where the pump switched off. Didn't squeeze any more in. The reading was 65.2 litres. Therefore total in the tank was over 72 litres. Quite pleasing as I think the bigger the better.

    Handbook states about 66 litres including reserve.

    Can anyone else comment ?

  6. Just over 1200 miles on mine now so felt it was time to try the sport setting. Wow, it was so eager to go. Always plenty of power available at any speed giving a thrilling surge of acceleration but you can incur wheelspin ,if not careful, and not just in bottom gear.

    I will not be using 'sport' in normal driving as 'drive' still gives sparkling performance and feels more  relaxed. This is a fabulous engine/gearbox combination and gives me all the performance I need.

    I can certainly understand why the 280TSI would need 4 wheel drive.

    Re fuel consumption - the last tank has given me 32mpg (my calculation not the computer's) .This include a very fast return trip to Plymouth into a storm force wind, a more leisurely cross-country trip to Lyme and Bridport and a lot of town and local stop-start journeys.

    I would think that a long distance motorway haul at 75mph(indicated) should give me better than 40mpg. I'll find that out in June when I go to Newcastle.

  7. It would be better if the mirror heaters came on with the rear window heater as they did on my Insignia. They would also turn off automatically after a preset time - it's so easy on the Superb to forget that the mirror heaters are on.

    However, I do find that they clear quickly.

    Front screen also clears very quickly as the petrol engine warms up much faster than a diesel.

  8. If wipers on maximum speed don't cope with the amount of rain then IMHO speed is too high for weather conditions.

    I never drive faster than conditions allow but overtaking HGV's in heavy rain can overwhelm the wipers. The law should change to make it compulsory for HGV's to have anti-spray wheel arches.

    Are there any HGV drivers in the forum who would care to comment ?
