  1. Yet another correction... This has nothing to do with pairing apparently. It happened just now when I didn't bring my phone with me. I just assumed it was related as it happened right after pairing was done.

So to recap: player locks up about 10 seconds after getting power, no matter which input it's on. Switching inputs fices the problem. While it hangs sound is muted, I can press touch screen buttons but nothing happens.

  2. Installed a second hand rcd510 dab in my Fabia.

Everything works well except an annoying little thing: When I start the car, the dab radio starts up as it should. The car then pairs with the phone, there's the usual beep, but once the pairing is complete, sound from the radio is gone and none of the touch screen buttons work. I can see them react when I touch them but they don't actually do anything.

If I change input to fm radio I get sound and everything appears back to normal. Switching back to dab also works.

    Any ideas? Coding needed?

  3. Thanks! I had a look for it just now but couldn't find it :)

After some more searching I found the list I used:

3C8035190 RCD510 without DAB, with rear camera input
3C8035190C RCD510 without DAB, with rear camera input (also sold as seat Soundsystem 3.0)

  4. Cheers for the replies. I read up on it elsewhere and felt fairly certain the the H-version supports dab+. Unit was bought from the UK (ebay, second hand). Worked fine with dab+ as well. I think I saw the overview of which versions of RCD510 supports what on this forum in another thread. Nice list of units and what they include.

  5. I'm considering buying a second hand rcd510 dab, however I need to make sure it is dab+.

I've got a picture of the label, which reads:

Bosch VW Radio MID EU DAB UP4 BVX

    3C8 035 195 H

    815 7 642 271 360

    It's from a 2013 Golf 7 1.6 TDI.

Is it possible to tell from the info above wether it's a dab or dab+? I've read that VW started using dab+ in all their cars from 2013 onwards in Norway, but I want to be 100% sure. It's from a breakers so I don't know if the seller knows, I'm waiting for a reply.

  6. About half of what they cost here :( At least for a dab unit.

Aerial wise, I've never had any issues with windscreen mounted ones, but other people have. Guess it depends on where you are.

In Norway they start switching off analouge broadcasts in 2017 so I couldn't justify spending £££ on a non-dab hu and I'm a bit of a nerd so I really want that carplay/mirrorlink stuff.

  7. I've been looking at alternatives for my 2013 Fabia. There are some after market alternatives, both VW and others. The original ones that you can fit are rcd310/315 or rcd510 (with or without dab), rns315 (Amundsen) or rns510 (Columbus). The RCD-versions are without navigaion. Columbus is definately a more high end model than Amundsen, but also more expensive.

As for other makers, I know there's a Kenwood that should work out of the box (DNX-525DAB).  I think one of the top end Pioneers support all features as well. I don't know if these show navigation info on your maxidot display like the original stereos will do.

I decided to get a second hand Swing with DAB (RCD310 with DAB that is) for now and wait until carplay has matured for a year or two before really investing into a new stereo.

If you don't care about carplay/mirrorlink and want to get something now, get the Columbus with LED-screen and DAB(+). Or you could go for the Kenwood if you want carplay/mirrorlink as it is right now.

  8. Nick, have you still got the rcd310 dab? I'm considering it as a temporary (as in a year or two) upgrade from my Swing until there are carplay compatible native units available. Will you ship it to Norway? I could possibly get someone in the UK to ship it to me if not.

  9. My VRS came with the Swing radio and after looking at different (cheap) ways of upgrading, I ended up with a second hand Pioneer avh-x3600DAB. After some initial fiddling and cursing I have managed to hook it up, and get the canbus set up so it turns on/off with the key and I can control volume and next/prev with the steering wheel controls.

There are, however, two issues that annoy me.

First, the car came with OEM bluetooth, and it keeps trying to connect to my phone. I've read/heard that I should disconnect the bluetooth module, which is apparently located under the drivers seat (would this also be the case on LHD versions?). I will try this once I manage to locate it. So far I haven't seen it, but there are storage compartments under the seats so I suppose they will have to come off to get access. I did find three cables (white, green and yellow connectors) connected under the drivers seat but am a bit wary of pulling any of them out just in case they're airbag-related.

Second, while I can use the volume and next/previous buttons on my wheel, there are other controls that are not as useful. Pressing the phone-button (volume toggle) will enter the OEM phone menu and of course tell me there's no phone connected. Pressing the button on the end of the right side stalk both enters the menu on the OEM system (as I expect and want it to do) and for some reason sends a "skip to next input" signal to the head unit, which I don't care about. The other two buttons on the stalk works as they should, they do not do anything on the Pioneer, but lets me navigate menus in the OEM system.

Anyone else fitted a Pioneer or other HU and come across something like this? Ideas? This is a brand new area of knowledge for me, I'm pretty lost... Maybe I should just try and swap it for an RNS310 or something :)

  10. Morning guys!

My 2013 VRS has the Swing radio installed. I'd like to upgrade to something nicer. It has to have DAB+ and I really like the idea of running Waze from my iphone on the display of the radio. It also (of course) needs to be compatible with the car, show the parking sensor graphics, steering wheel controllable etc. On a limited budget I found the Pioneer AVH-X3700DAB tempting, but I can't really find any info on compatibility. Does anyone know? Are there other options in the same price range I should consider?

    Thanks for any help :)
