We're looking at replacing our Roomster with an Octavia Estate before the MOT is due again in mid April 2018 - looking at some of these delivery timescales would it be sensible to order by the start of November?

And probably a silly question, but when you order that far in advance at what stage do you part with the bulk of your money? It's been nearly 10 years since we last bought a car so I'm a bit hazy with the process, but I'm hopefully getting a decent bonus at the start of April which was earmarked for the deposit!

My car was a stock rather than a new factory build, but paid £500 deposit to secure car then paid the main deposit when I picked it up and signed for it. I'd guess the process is the same for a factory build, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

  2. Picked up my new Octavia Estate 1st of Sep. It's a 1.4 TSI SE L, replacing a 2015 1.2 TSI SE hatch. Love the upgrade to the SE L. Lots of new toys to play with and didn't think moving up the 1.4 would make much of a difference, but it is definitely a lot more nippy! Not had LED headlights before. That and the Amundsen are probably my favorite things.

Miss the beeps when locking and unlocking though. Not sure why they removed that?

Got a get around, first of all using my Sons O2 sim everything works as it should. Discussions and tests using my home wifi with car in the drive indicate the problem is connected to BT parental controls which can be deleted on land line but on mobile can only be turned off. Turned off still causes a problem with land line.

    the get around:-

get into car and turn ignition on.

turn connection share on phone off.

in car navigate to settings wifi there will be a dash in the box.

    turn sharing on on phone.

car will see phone, select it.

now on phone navigate to skoda connect, if you need to download get from App Store.

put in a destination on phone or click history and select any previous destination.

touch destination three dots at right and select send.

phone will now send destination to car.

in car use panel select nav and enter true destination.

after a few minutes car display will say one destination imported,

    touch accept.

Skoda connect will now be working ang nav will update with roadworks.

please nag BT the more who complain the better chance of a fix.

I had a bit more of a read about it yesterday and got a fix as well (working for now anyway!). It's to do with the Access Point Name (APN) settings of the phone. I'm on android so the process is a bit different, but if I take my sim out and put it back in, it asks me to choose the carrier (EE and BT on same network). If I pick EE instead of BT it works without a problem. Try that with the iPhone and see if it works.

Have a look at this on the BT site and see if it helps you as well: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/51799/~/how-do-i-manually-set-up-my-mobile-phone-for-mms%3F

Let me know if you need any help.

  4. Hi Again!

Bought the stock SE L a few weeks ago and it's sat at the dealers ready to pick up on the 1st of September. I asked when the car was built, but the dealer didn't know but he did say that it was an MY18. I had a look at the car last week, but didn't take note of the VIN which would have helped me identify when it was made.

I've noticed that there are two manuals for the FL models (02/2017 and 05/2017). Are there any easily spottable things that I can use to tell the difference? Took loads of photos of the outside and inside of car, so can post if it helps!

    Thanks guys

Is it in stock at the dealers or at the port in Emden?

Only thing to check with a dealer stock car is damage, especially if its been in the showroom on display.

I'll check when I go in today as I don't know if it's at a port or at another dealer (I know it's not at the current dealer). I'll give it a real good look over when it comes to picking it up. Test driving  Kodiaq as well today, so I'll see how it goes!

  6. Thanks guys. Definitely not relying on the salesmen to tell me what a good deal is! Had the current car valued at 3 places and all had the same figure.

Had a few Carwow quotes on different builds this weeks and got quotes from the different dealers. This is cheaper by some way than the lowest offer I had for a factory build. Think I'll go for it as can live without the heated front seats and there's lots more gadgets in this one compared to my SE! Just wanted to make sure that there weren't any specific drawbacks to getting the stock car compared to a factory build.

    Thanks!

  7. Hi ALL,

I currently have a 15 plate 1.2 SE Octavia hatch and have a chance to trade it in early (value of car is same as the amount left to pay off). I'm looking to buy a a 1.4 SE L Octavia Estate as the SE L has most of the extras that I would have added to the SE and more.

The dealer has offered a good deal on a stock car in the colour that I wanted. The only extra that I would have added to a factory ordered car are heated front seats, but can live without these. My question is, are there any downsides to ordering a stock car?

  8. I have given this a go with ios10 beta on my Octavia mkIII Amundsen (5Q0035874A H24 0241), and it was no dice :(

Nothing on the maxi dot in the navigation nor phone menu. So it looks like it will need a smartlink software update to work *sigh*

Shame, I hoped it would work. Maybe it might be added in one of the betas further down the line. Thanks for letting us know.

  9. I've had the 1.2 TSI since October and it's great for us. We don't do massive miles but can do the odd 200 mile trip and and a 100 mile round trip every other week and it's easily up to the task. We have two kids and both have car seats (both under 2) and always have a big pram in the boot and the car doesn't struggle at all. Has decent power and can easily cruise at 80.

I was dubious after reading all the reviews that recommended it, but I was sold when I took it for a test drive.

  10. Hi,

    I've had a new-to-me Octavia for a couple of weeks (loving it), and have a couple of questions/niggles about the Bolero entertainment system;

    - The indicator of the battery level for my phone is not really working, the phone can be getting low and the indicator on the screen nearly always shows it as full.  Strangely, I'm sure it was working when I first got the car. I've tried getting it to forget the phone and reconnect, which seems to give a short-term fix, but it soon goes out of whack. Phone is an iPhone 6 with latest iOS.

    - I'm sure when I first got the car hitting the "Car" button would, by default, take me to the driving data display (ie. mileage, consumption, range etc.). Now when I hit the Car button it always goes to the stupid "Convenience Consumers" screen which just tells me I have the air con on.

    - If I asked a dealer when the car's in for a service would they update the Bolero software to the latest version?

    Cheers!

I can't help with the battery level as mine just works on the iPhone. However, when you press car, you can keep pressing it more than once and it scrolls through the different screens. If you then go back to car it should default to the last screen you left it on.

  11. I fitted it myself, and a simple install. Removed the CD player in the glove box, and disconnected two cables and then joined the two boxes in. Had to dismantle the side of the car to fit the gps aerial on top of window screen, but easy enough.

The system seems to work ok and this is fitted on a Bolero min 1 with dab.

I will do a video and upload. It's a pioneer unit with navgate firmware... I have just looked at the pioneer navgate Evo that's due out for the octavia 3 which adds Apple play....not sure of the cost of that yet...

Hi mate, do you get navigation directions on the maxi-dot display with this?

  12. It's SmartLink on the Skoda's and the usefulness will depend on what car you have. I don't have a nav on mine so using the Maps is great. The voice control works almost perfectly compared to the cars one, which is an absolute disaster.

Used Android Auto and Car Play and the car play integration is much better in my opinion. Android is a pain to connect as it always flicks between Android Auto and the less useful Mirrorlink. Car Play just auto loads when you plug the iPhone in which is better. Being able to control Spotify, podcasts its from the screen and ask random questions while driving is great. The other positive of either Android Auto or Car Play is that they are always being updated, so the media system in your car will always be up to date with modern tech rather than outdated like most car systems after a few years.

  13. Its the same but my manual shows the fig 225 not 244. I didn't understand the reference to the hook either, if you look into the housing (A small mirror is useful) you will just about see a square black moulding sitting on top of the 3 contacts, this is the part you need to carefully lift up on one side, this moulding traps said contacts in place, once it is lifted up it releases the contacts enough to allow the bulb holder (The moulding with the orange part) to be rotated to the right thereby allowing the holder and bulb to be withdrawn from its bayonet fitting in the rear of the headlight itself.

The above standing in front of the car looking to the rear, the only tricky bit is lifting the moulding, its high up in the headlight and not much room for fingers, I used a flat ended screwdriver to gently lever the right side of the clip up about 4mm which was enough to allow the contacts on the connector to be rotated. Hope this makes sense!!! THe moulding is NOT removed from the headlight, you just need to put the bulb & Holder back in place, rotate to the left and push the moulding back down to lock it all in place.

Think there's probably been a bit of confusion, but I want to change the H7 dipped beam (image 244) and not the main beam H15 bulb which has the three prongs. I've changed the bulbs and seemed fine, but I'm worried about the light pattern. Difficult to see in attached photo but doesn't look right.

I've probably derailed the thread about the bulbs enough so I'll leave it at that!

  14. So was the dipped headlight like it said in the manual?

The way I understood it to be was: You pull down on the light+connector to release then pull out. remove and then pull off the connector. Connect to the new light and then is it just a case of pushing the new light in (flat, tab side up). There aren't any clips or tabs to close?

The part I don't understand from the manual is the second to last instruction: Remove the hook in the direction of arrow 3.
