  1. Had one snap off on the front passenger door when my wife tried to shut the door. If was at night so dark, when she went to close the door it failed to retracted stopping the door from closing so she slammed it shut :wall:  and said nothing of it. Found it on the floor in the morning and yes it did damage the paint work. Its in for its second service in the morning, they said they'd take a look at it but I'm not holding my breath. I give up caring about the paint work, wife drives it 95% of the time and its covered in dents and scratches due to idiots in car parks and her inability to walk the extra few steps to avoid this happening.

Can you do this? I was on the understanding that even alerting your insurance company to an accident (fault or non-fault, claim or no claim) it still counts against you, as statistically you are now classed as a higher risk?

Yep, this happened to my wife and she is still paying for it even though she still has her no claims.

She wasn't even in the car when the idiot reversed into her old car but because she reported it (but didn't claim anything) when she renewed her policy is was classed as a non fault claim as apparently you're 50% likly to have an accident in the first year after a non fault accident.

    They screw you either way.

Nice, any options fitted or is she a standard SE L?

You can't beat the Sirius with some tyre shine on a sunny day!

Standard SE L but I'm more then happy with the spec, comparing it to the VRS I have everything but leather seats which I didn't want and a heated windscreen which would of been nice but not a big deal. I still don't understand why Skoda have car mats as an option :D I was surprised when I checked the spec.

I paid extra for heated seats, rear tinted glass, Kessy, folding mirrors and smart link on the VRS.

  4. Book the car in for a service today at stockport lookers for Monday, which is local to my work place, called and I think its just a call centre, told him I only want a minor service to which he said that it may void my warranty :o and then made a note on something saying he has told me. I'm half tempted to cancel and take it elsewhere. Cost is £159

You don't need a major service.

It all depends on your attitude towards maintenance.

At 9,000 miles / 2 years old all your call will get is oil, oil filter and a pollen filter, regardless of which service you choose.

This is why all you need is the £159 (it's gone up £10) minor service. Fresh oil is the important factor here, which you get on both services.

Your Skoda retailer might try and charge you £279 for a major service, but as I mentioned earlier you are being ripped off if you pay it. The extra £120 gets you nothing more if the car is less than 3 years old or has covered less than 60,000 miles.

However, at 2 years old, although Skoda's service regime doesn't require it, you might want to have the extra parts fitted that are included in the major service (but won't be changed at your age / mileage), such as the air and fuel filter. These can be added to the cost of the £159 minor service and the bill will still be less than the major service.

Minor it is then, I'll fit an air filter myself.

At two years you need a major service  - to check on the brakes etc (stop calipers seizing etc) and replace filters...................

2 years is a long time between oil changes for a cam chained engine!

but from what I'm reading on here and else where is that the pollen filter, plugs etc don't get changed and your paying more for the same as a minor.

I had a minor, filter and oil change at 12 months 5k

The pollen filter is included in the minor service "if required", which at 12 months / 10K it isn't but at 24 months / 20K it is.

This is why the £269 variable / major service is even more of a joke on cars less than 3 years old or with 60,000 miles.

There is absolutely no difference in the £149 and £269 services other than the price.

Sure they might say more visual inspections are done but they aren't. The dealer takes the chance to find as much wrong with your car as they can, this is how they make money, either through warranty claims to Skoda UK or non-warranty items paid for by you.

Pay £149 and no more and sleep safely!

At 3 years old or 60,000 miles then by all means pay the £269 but make sure you get an air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter (diesel) and spark plugs (petrol).

Even then it is often still a rip off. I once paid £139 for a minor service (it's gone up a tenner since then) and added the extra bits listed above from their menu pricing and it was still less than £269.

I'm at 9000k, 2nd year and due for a service, are you saying I should just book a minor service and save the difference ?

That won't have been a factory build, it'll have already been built and sat either at the plant or Emden waiting for an order.

That's the only way you'll get petrol's now, all build slots prior to plant shutdown were allocated last month.

There are brand new cars out there without owners but they're built and in storage.

They told me it was not built when I made the purchase but was on a preorder they had made for that quarter. The Skoda thing they sent me via email also said BW18

  9. Hi,

Planning to possibly hand back my VRS in exchange for the new 7 seater as my wife is now expecting our fourth child :)

Just wondering if anyone on here has gone through this process with Skoda? The other option is part exing my wife's Nissan qashqai but we would probably only get 9.5k for it so it would mean another monthly payment.

Gutted at the idea of handing back my VRS and will really miss it.

    Thanks

  10. I always thought it was some sort of liquid wax. I wash my VRS but when I take my wife's car to the local hand wash, cost £10 for a mini valet but I pay £1 extra for wax and they spray on something like you described at the end.

I got information from my salesman: If you lock the car with the Keyfob, it disables the kessy! He knew of this on the Rapid, but he was not sure if the same was true on Fabia as well, but I was able to confirm this today.

So, if you lock the car with KESSY, you can unlock with KESSY or keyfob, but if you lock the car with the keyfob, you need to unlock using the keyfob as well.

Therefor, the logic question: can this be disabled in VCDS?

This isn't the case for my Octavia, I have Kessy and it doesn't matter if I use the fob or not, Kessy still works.

  12. Hi,

Key fob stopped working today, its just under 2 years old. At first I thought it was the battery though I thought it would be strange as my old car gave me a warning when the battery was low. Swapped the battery around with the one in my spare key and it still wasn't working but my spare works with the same battery.

Does anyone know if I can claim this on the warranty?

    Cheers
