  1. After a lot of agonising my friend took the plunge: Sportline Estate, 150 TDI DSG, Corrida Red. Panoramic roof. Heated seats. Pre-registered with 40 miles on the clock. A bit under £23k with a Volvo Estate trade-in. He would have preferred grey/black but the deal was good overall. At least you can't ignore red! Thanks again for all your collective thoughts/help. MM
  2. Thank you very much for all your collective replies. Very interesting reading. My own feeling is that petrol engines are more sensitive to harder driving and congestion while diesel is a bit more forgiving in terms of overall mpg. Less volatile. The South East of England where much of the driving will be done has more congestion/driver frustration than the rest of the country... Hard to call overall. Again, thanks.
  3. Thanks again for all your words. We have still to check the car out - in the paint shop for a "small bump". Hmm. MM
  4. That's good news. Thank you Legend and thank you all very much indeed for your helpful advice. The vRS TDI 2.0 sounds as if it's a reasonably safe option on the 'dieselgate' front.
  5. Great help, all. Encouraging on the emissions 'fix' front. The car is from a non-Skoda dealer. I have taken a look at the boom-resonance thread. That looks concerning. Again, thanks. MM
  6. After a lot of deliberation we are looking hard at a used diesel vRS estate, registered Sept 2014, 29,000 miles on the clock, from a reputable garage in the south west. We are test driving next week. We are wondering what questions to ask around Euro-5 & 6 engine compliance and emissions/software cheating etc. I am assuming it will be a euro 5 engine. We are also wondering if the sports suspension and 18" wheels will result in a noisy, jiggly ride. Any advice appreciated. Many thanks. MM

  8. Helpful. Thanks Tisca. My gut feeling is that the diesel is the better fit.
  9. Hi. Thanks for replying. It's mostly him in the car but he does load up on a load of heavy ceramics and artwork for sale several times of year, hence the need for loads of space and a reasonable amount of grunt.
  10. Hi, we are trying to decide on a Superb estate. My friend is buying. He does 20,000 mies and is a confirmed diesel buyer. But he is wondering whether a 1.4 TSI (possibly in DSG form) might be a savvier buy longterm: quieter, cheaper, etc. But the big question is how EFFICIENT is the 1.4 TSI with the two cylinder deactivation feature? Any thoughts? He does quite a lot of heavy long distance hauls and thinks he may miss the 'grunt' of a diesel. I am encouraging to think 'petrol' and consider the 1.4. To make things more difficult, he lives in Brighton. Brighton has a very 'green' council which is talking about diesel vehicle bans and tax penalties... THANK YOU
  11. Thank you very much, all. I think the Greenline 1.6 TDI is the one to go for and NOT have any future 'fix'. MM
  12. I'm on the look-out for a TDI Greenline Yeti or a 2.0 litre Yeti. We're a bit worried about the VW emissions fix and wondering are there any models that are more vulnerable to poor running/reduced fuel consumption than others? Any feedback appreciated. With thanks MM
  13. All very helpful. Thanks so much for your replies. My feeling is that the Greenline is okay 85-90% of the time. Overtaking will need caution. Overall, broadly tolerable. Thank you again for your help.
  14. Hi, I'd be grateful for advice. I'm wondering how big the performance deficit is for the Greenline II Yeti compared to the 2.0 TDI? I'm also a bit confused about bhp/ps outputs as had thought the 2.0 litre had 140bhp, though it appears to be less at 110bhp. (Perhaps the 140bhp figure is for the 4x4 only?) We're not looking at hauling huge loads. The Greenline II appears to come out okay in reviews but I've got a nagging doubt still. The 1.6 unit just seems a bit weedy to haul all that weight. Any feedback would be great (including mpg figures!). Thank you very much. MM, London
  15. Can anyone advise? I have to have the hot/cold dial turned to max (hot) before hot air is pumped into the footwells/dashboard demist vent. Until recently warm air would be pumped in generously at the halfway point (dial turned midway at the 12 O'Clock position). Now only cold air is pumped in at this point. All very odd. Any thoughts? Thank you Adrian PS: should add that the car has air con but not climate control.
  16. 200 miles on... In contrast to the Bridgestone Turanzas the Avon ZV7's are quieter and more pliant. More a 'big car' feel. Not so much feedback in the corners but the 'A' rated wet grip (additionally) is more than compensation. Less wearing generally.
  17. I bought, in the end, the Avons ZV7 via Black Circles. Fitting Friday. £62 each. Thanks again for all the collective wisdom directed here. MM
  18. Had a look at ATS. No Tigar's available in 205/45/16 I'm afraid. Worth a try though. Thanks.
  19. There's some very good advice here. Thank you to all. My head has been slightly turned by the Avon ZV7 at £63 at Tyre Shopper. Low noise at 69 dB and A-rated wet grip. See https://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/tyres/brand/avon/avon-zv7/205-45WR16-83W The Uniroyals at Mytyres at £62 also look decent though noisier than the Avons at 71 dB. See http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=110&cart_id=82087078.110.31375&Breite=205&Quer=45&Felge=16&Speed=&kategorie=6&ranzahl=4&tyre_for=&x_tyre_for=&rsmFahrzeugart=ALL&search_tool=standard&Label=E-A-71-2&details=Ordern&typ=R-242754 However I will take a squizz at the Tigar offering at ATS also. Thanks again.
  20. Hello. I need to replace the front Bridgestone Turanza (size 205/45r16) tyres on my Fabia 1.4 TDI 80. I feel the Bridgestones are a somewhat noisy tyre and not keen to simply replace like-for-like. I am happy to look at mid-range tyre manufacturers such as Falken, Kumho, Nexen, etc as well as Michelin and Goodyear. What is most important for me is low noise and good wet grip. I live in East London. Any recommendations much appreciated. Thank you! MM PS: My local tyre fitter says stay with what you know. He still reckons the Turanzas are a "very good tyre with a very hard compound meaning they should last longer than rivals". I'm not so enthusiastic...
  21. No USB socket as standard! Bit gutted. Okay, thanks for all the feedback. I will check the glovebox again but not looking good. Thanks again for your replies.
  22. Any help appreciated. I have a 1.2 TSI DSG S (basic level) trim. Good car. I cannot find any USB socket to wire up an iPhone (I have the midi cable). My Fabia TDI 80 has one but not the Octy... The handbook mentions it could be under the armrest - but there's no armrest. There is a cigarette lighter but no USB... Or is the car too basic spec to have one...?? Thanks!
