  1. Hey mate, I've got the 2016 1.4l (92TSI) down here in Melbourne. And you're right, the Yeti isn't too well known in this country. Well, the Skoda brand itself isn't too well known in Australia. Though I do see 5'ish Yeti on the road per week.

There's an Aussie Skoda group on Facebook with a few Yeti owners in there if you're interested.

You have to be a good dealer to survive also.

Yeah, that's true. Several Skoda dealerships have disappeared in Melb/Sydney. Some replaced in the area by another group, some not.

In Melbourne I know that the Zagame group no longer does Skoda Richmond. From what I've read Essendon Skoda took over.

And in Sydney Thomson Skoda replaced Trivett Skoda.

So why are there 1.4TSI 150ps / 110kw available in the UK /Europe.  or are there more powerful than that Yeti 1.4TSI available in Australia?

They are now available in Australia as a 4x4 model. But weren't available when I brought mine. The 1.4 110kw 4x4 model replaced the 1.4 92kw 2wd model in the local range.

i believe the 92kw was also sold in various European countries but never in the U.K.

Also, in Australia the only Yeti that had a manual option was the cheapest/entry level 1.2l model, everything else being DSG.

  4. I think that's a rare engine around here (1.4l/92kw), but it's one that I share here in Australia in a MY16 Yeti.

Most of the 1.4l engines here are of the 110kw variety I believe.

I've had my Yeti for about 10 months now and done 10,000km with no issues. What sort of issues have you been reading about?

  5. I'm still quite new to the Yeti (and Skoda), having just brought mine back in March. Have done just over 7000km in my 1.4l TSI (averaging 7.3l/100km).

The Yeti continues to surprise (in good ways). And I couldn't be happier thus far.

I think if you keep an eye on enough product forums (not just cars), you'll always see people post about the problems they have with that product. It's normal. I've been active in various photography, isp, tech etc forums for years and observe the same pattern. There's the core group of enthusiasts, a small handful of trolls, and then you have those irregular ones that only post about problems they're having or for advice.

  6. What is the 1.4TSI in your Yeti.  is it a  92Kw / 125 ps Turbo Petrol engine without ACT.

Do you know the engine code?

Unsure about the engine code, I'll check tomorrow.

    Found this: http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/mobile/newsdetail/?newsid=553&nids=&lurl=

    From the beginning of June, the ŠKODA Yeti will be available with new 1.2 and 1.4 TSI petrol engines from the EA 211 engine range: 1.2 TSI/81 kW (110 hp, 124 g CO2/km, 5,3 l/100 km), 1.4 TSI/92 kW (125 hp, 134 g CO2/km, 5,8 l/100 km), as well as 1.4 TSI/110 kW (150 hp, 147 g CO2/km, 6,3 l/100 km). The following Euro 6 diesel engines (EA 288) are now available for the Yeti: 2.0 TDI/81 kW (110 hp, 115 g CO2/km, 4,4 l/100 km) and 2.0 TDI/110 kW (150 hp, 126 g CO2/km, 4,8 l/100 km). The 2.0 TDI/125 kW (170 hp) is being discontinued.

From the above, mine is indeed the 1.4 TSI/92kW (125 hp) mentioned above. So it's a EA 211 variant. Beyond that, I don't know anything about it. It is a 2wd DSG model.

  7. When I have my Polo in "Think Blue" mode and the car is assessing my driving out of a score of 100, when I come off motorways and am slowing down with my foot off the gas but not braking, the car shows "eco mode", so is that technically what is being called "coasting" here? I have always associated coasting with being out of gear?

    http://www.volkswagen.com.au/en/technology_and_service/technical-glossary/Driving-Profile-Selection.html

Eco mode has been designed to enhance fuel efficiency by including coasting function (with DSG) and by adapting engine performance, earlier gearshift points and consumption-optimised control of the air conditioning system. Comfort mode offers a more relaxed and comfortable driving experience, primarily through the softer suspension setting of the adaptive chassis control

While it does do similar to what is described, what I'm talking about is called "Coasting Function" and happens without selecting any modes. Just put your car into D, remove foot from the accelerator and coasting function kicks in (if it is enabled).

    http://www.volkswagen.com.au/en/technology_and_service/technical-glossary/coasting-function.html

While driving, as the driver’s foot is taken off the accelerator pedal the engine is declutched, allowing the vehicle to coast and roll over a longer distance. The momentum of the vehicle is used to save fuel with a foresighted driving style. When the brake, accelerator pedal or the gear selector lever is operated, the clutch is re-engaged and engine braking / drive takes effect. Coasting Function can be selected or deselected via the multifunction display settings. The gear selector lever is required to be in the D position to be functional. The coasting function is only available with direct shift gearbox (DSG) transmissions in selected models.

  8. Is coasting not automatically activated when you go round in "ECO" mode?

It is on my Diesel DSG and was the same on my Petrol Golf R DSG, too.

Or are you not able to select different modes?

There's no ECO mode on my petrol DSG Yeti, but yes, it's automatically activated when you take your foot off the accelator. You can turn it off via the maxidot.

From what I gather, it's a relatively new feature on petrol Yeti models. Possibly from MY16 and onwards.

  9. From the mild hybrid section of this article: http://www.volkswagenag.com/content/vwcorp/info_center/en/themes/2014/11/Innovation_workshop_2014/CO2_reduction.html

Mild hybrid technology from Volkswagen shuts off the combustion engine in coasting phases – such as when the driver takes the foot from the accelerator pedal either on descents or when anticipating a stop. It creates an alliance of efficiency, comfort and convenience. The engine, which is joined to a dual-clutch gearbox (DSG), is restarted very comfortably via a belt-driven starting generator (RSG).

When the engine is shut off, it is disengaged from the drivetrain which enables a "coasting" mode in which the car is driven with zero emissions. In this case, the text message "Coasting" appears on the multifunction display and the familiar symbol for the active "stop-start system". This "coasting with engine-off function" extends the availability of the "stop-start system" to any driving speeds. An important difference: In today's stop-start systems, the engine must first reach zero revs before it can be restarted. However, in the Volkswagen mild hybrid (a low-voltage system) the engine can be restarted at any engine speed ("change of mind situation"). So, this system conveniently is able to smoothly handle situations such as when the driver releases the accelerator pedal, but then suddenly presses it again, e.g. to get through an intersection while the traffic light is still yellow. An electric oil pump in the DSG also ensures that the gearbox can still shift while the combustion engine is deactivated, so that the proper gear ratio is immediately available at restart.

In addition, the amount of energy recovered by regenerative braking has been significantly increased in the mild hybrid. A lightweight lithium-ion battery serves as the energy storage device here. The recovered energy in the mild hybrid is not only used to supply the vehicle electrical system during stop-start and coasting mode phases – and to restart the engine. It is also used for what is known as the mini boost. This shifts the engine's load point which further reduces CO2 emissions.

  10. My 2015 1.4tsi L& K does not have coasting option

That reminds me, when I went to test drive the Yeti, it was a MY15, which did not have coasting. My MY16 does though, so I think it's a recent change.

  11. Sorry, i had not spotted your post. @ #17

Is the feature on yours due to being in Australia,

or are there also 1.4TSI Yeti sold in Europe with Coasting does anyone know?

Possibly, I'm not sure. I know my model was never sold in the U.K., but was on sale elsewhere in the EU. Skoda sales (and Yeti more so) are quite low in this country (compared with other manufacturers here and compared to Skoda/Yeti sales over there so we are probably just getting things sold in Europe with little to no modifications made. In fact, when I picked up the car was given a seperate owners manual supplement that has things to note for Australia that aren't mentioned in the main one.

The 1.4TSI sold in the U.K. has more HP than mine. However, I'm aware that my 1.4 is no longer sold locally. They've replaced it with a 4x4 1.4 TSI with the same kW and HP rating as the one sold in the U.K.

  12. I've got the 12 in my Yeti, quite like it but never tried the Yeti with 8 so can't compare! It was added as part of the "tech pack" (in Australia), so it was an all (of the pack) or nothing for me.

From the brochure, the tech pack gave me:

    - bi xenon headlights and LED day time running lights

    - 12 speakers

    - auto parking assist

    - SmartLink

    - DAB+

    - rear LED lights

All that for an extra $2100AUD (at the time).

My main wants at the time from that tech pack were the bi xenon headlights/led running lights, DAB+ and SmartLink. To me, everything else (12 speakers, auto parking assist and read led lights) were an added bonus!

  13. So all those that so far have said they have 'coasting' have diesel engine vehicles.

Those without have TSI petrols, so not that much of a surprise then.

Not true for all TSI petrol engines. I've got a 1.4l 92kw TSI petrol engine and I've got coasting.

  14. I'm sure there is, just not in this country!

    Ian

You're right, it's available over here in Australia (it's labelled as the Yeti 1.4l 110 TSI 4x4). We also used to have the 2wd 1.4l 92 TSI. Both of which only come in DSG configurations. If you wanted a manual in this country, it's only available with the 1.2l engine.

From poking around at various European Skoda sites, it's also available in some European countries.

So the real issue is that the Skoda importer in your country decided that not many would buy that configuration, so they don't import it for sale into your country.

  15. I've got it enabled on my 1.4l petrol Yeti and quite like it.

I've altered my driving slightly to take advantage of coasting mode and these days I don't really notice that I'm in coasting mode. It makes the most difference when I'm driving longer distances and out of the city/suburbia.

  16. My 2016 1.4l 92 kW (123 bhp I think) TSI is currently averaging 7.6l/100 after 4500km. Which I think is 37.2 UK mpg. Think my best effort was when I was out of town in country Victoria doing a long drive, got 6.9l/100 during that trip (40.9mpg).

This is suburban driving so speeds are generally between 50-80km/h (30-50mph), except during heavy peak hour (where it's mostly 20-40km/h with a few minutes of 40-70km/h on the motorway).

  17. Looks like the 92 TSI (1.4L) that I own is now gone from the Aussie site. Just the 81 TSI (1.2L) remains.

I also noticed that the model configurator now allows you to configure a 4x4 Outdoor model, which is a 1.4L. I assume this is similar to the 1.4 L&K available in the UK. Also of note, it's a 6 speed DSG rather than a 7 that was on the previous 1.4 TSI.

  18. I brought mine with the 12 speakers (was included as part of the "tech pack" option as they call it in Australia). I just wanted the DAB+ and Bi-Xenon headlights, but it came with the upgraded speaker system. And to be honest, I'm glad that I have it. Listening to music in my Yeti is quite an enjoyable part of the journey!

  19. Since you have an iPhone, download the Here maps app. They are the map provider used by Skoda for the Yeti. Obviously the UI is different but the maps are still using similar data.

Others have already talked about the traffic so I won't go into that. But I would say you folks are lucky, we have the button on our cars but it does nothing as it hasn't been enabled in Australis due to (from what I hear) VW/Skoda Australia don't want to pay the fees for it.

If you get SmartLink with an iPhone connected, it actually works quite well too!

  20. The fallout from dieselgate and the fact that the Transport Minister has said the Taxation on diesels will need to change will see a move in the market towards petrol.

Skoda UK will have to meet that changing demand or loose sales to other manufacturers.

It's interesting you mention that. Due to dieselgate, the Yeti TDI models were withdrawn from the Australian market. We now only have the 1.2 (in manual and DSG) and 1.4 DSG. All 2WD.
