  1. I’ve emailed requesting they add 8 and if that doesn’t work I’ll ask for 13....
  2. That’s interesting then Chet, might try sending the Carista developers an email requesting they add option 8 to try
  3. Just recently upgraded to a mk3 sportline 280 (and what an upgrade!) so was planning to move on from my trusty iPod classic 6th gen (with its 128gb sd card upgrade) to what should be a much easier solution - the SD card in the glove box’s Columbus MIB2.5 unit. after several evenings editing tags and album art with mp3tag I’ve finally got everything sorted and displaying the art properly (had a whole bunch of albums with the wrong versions of art even though it was there and embedded at 600x600...) but I still have an issue with continuous / gapless playback for my vast collection of mix albums (and some rock ones etc that seamlessly blend tracks). I had this issue on my old Kenwood in the last car but as I had the iPod it didn’t matter. In this case I’ve discovered the iPod actually works perfectly plugged into the cars USB port but there are two downsides to that, 1 - can no longer use CarPlay/charge my iPhone without separate charger and 2 - I have to select albums the long way through the database menus rather than just clicking on the album art. I’ve updated the software using the Skoda portal (gather that is just maps). curiously the same sd card plays gapless in my wife’s 2016 Fabia (Bolero?) so I’m guessing it’s a head unit firmware problem so wondered if anyone has this working? Some short videos below showing the various tests: Test 1 is Fabia working gapless: Test 2 is superb iPod working gapless: Test 3 is superb SD with the annoying gap: Also I have tried multiple file formats including a cd which was also ripped to flax, m4a, mp3 and wav - only the cd plays ok and copying files to the internal jukebox makes no difference. I’m planning on hitting my local dealers with a request to see if this can be sorted with a firmware update but would like to get as much info as possible so if anyone can shed some light it would be much appreciated! screenshots of both cars firmware info below.
  4. Will do, still planning to get VCDS sometime when I’ve recovered the finances a bit. will be happy to provide scans of all the modules and coding when that happens.
  5. Don’t know as I only have access to the Carista app at the moment. I was planning to invest in the 10 vin VCDS license sometime but having just spent £20k on the car I can’t justify another £300 this month...! I'm surprised just how many of the things listed in the VCDS options thread on the superb 3 are actually achievable in Carista though, I’ve done quite a few of the ones I wanted to do already.
  6. Unfortunately type 13 is not an option with Carista but I tried the others: Type none - welcome to Skoda (default on mine) Type 1 - vRS Type 2 - scout Type 3 - Laurin & klement Type 4 - n/a (welcome to Skoda) Type 5 - n/a (welcome to Skoda) Type 6 - n/a (welcome to Skoda) Type 7 - Monte Carlo Also tried the instrument cluster start logo: Type 1 - Skoda (default on mine) Type 2 - vRS Type 3 - Laurin & Klement Type 4 - Scout Type 5 - blank Type 6 - sportline Type 7 - Skoda Type 8 - blank seemed a bit hit and miss with the ones that were blank (depended on what was set before it seems) and the infotainment blank ones certainly set the “module incorrectly coded” flag but the other seem to work fine. Pity none of the options for the infotainment are relevant for my car so I’ve left alone but I was pleased to discover the instrument cluster one had a sportline one so I’ve kept that! pics below:
  7. That may well be true but I did get it to display the vRS, Scout, Scala , L&K & Monte Carlo logos ok, it just faulted out after a while as it seems type 5&6 caused the error. Type 7 was the Monte Carlo one. it just didn’t have the sportline one in there so I put it back to none. hope this makes sense, I can always try again and post some photos another time if you like? obviously I was only referring to the infotainment splash screen at start up!
  8. I had a look at this earlier with Carista as I have a 2018 sportline with Columbus that just says “welcome to Skoda” and I’d seen an option for infotainment start screen type in Carista. there was type none coded with options for types 1 to 7, 1 set it to vRS, and the others were either Scout, Scalia, L&K or Monte Carlo. None of them displayed Sportline on mine and at some point I had an error flash up about emergency call service with a fault code logged which reset when I set it back to none. Bummer as I would’ve liked the sportline option.... oh well
  9. Great write up and detail in this thread! I’ve just got a superb mk3 and am thinking of trying to install my old 12” sub and 500w rms amp but unlike my old mk2 superb that I’d installed the aftermarket Kenwood head unit to get line outputs that’s not an option in the newer car so I have a few questions: I’m guessing the connects 2 CT10SK03 harness adapter would be compatible with the (presumably) MIB2.5 Columbus system I have? If so could I use that to tap off the speaker signals down to the boot via something like the multi core cable used by the original poster and either run them directly into my Kenwood KAC-9106D amplifier’s high level input or via something like the LC2i and then into the amp? (Would the LC2i be necessary in the case of just wanting the sub?) finally am I right in thinking I could also run a return multi core and effectively give myself the option to amp the standard speakers separately from the boot (for example) if I wanted to in future (unlikely but I do like to future proof things!) by effectively sending the speaker signals down the car to the amps and back to the oem harness? (without the need to upgrade the cable to the doors!)
  10. I had a bluefin on my mk2 superb and have just upgraded to a mk3 280 4x4 which according to the superchips website uses the exact same part number handset so I’m wondering about the possibility of having it reset and using on the 280 (assuming they’re still going once my warranty is expired...) One thing putting me off that idea is the lack of dyno proving before and after considering it’s still around £325 with the 35% reset discount and the figures quoted are well below Revo and all the other mappers. i did like being able to remove it easily though without having to visit the original tuner!
  11. Me too! I just picked up a MY2018 280 and all I can say is wow! Can’t imagine what it’d be like at stage 1, launch control was enough to make my 12 year old daughter scream earlier today and it surprised me how quick it got to 60/70 mph!
  12. The car got traded in today with the original Bolero head unit re-fitted so the Kenwood and all it’s associated bits is now listed on eBay if anyone is in the market for one! i won’t post the link here so as not to breach forum rules (?) but it should be easy enough to find. moderators please let me know if this goes against forum rules....
  13. This is probably not what you’d want to hear but for context I’m trading in my 2010 diesel 2L (mk2 superb CR140SE well specced) on Monday with 87k miles for £2750 (autotrader valued it between 2600 trade and 3600 private) so is it really economical to consider spending that kind of amount on a 2011 car with similar mileage? i got hit with the clutch/gearbox failure at 56k miles a few years back that cost me £2000 and I seriously considered dumping the car at that point but couldn’t as I still had a loan outstanding at that point and the mileage was still reasonable but if it had happened now I don’t know if I could’ve justified that cost let alone the costs you are looking at. Just playing devils advocate here....
  14. I wish I’d researched a bit more when I bought the set for my mk2 superb (127) as I’ve recently looked the mk3 I’m getting and they quote 135. I knew I would need new foot kit at around £45 but could do without another £100 for some “slightly” longer bars.... guess I’ll be selling them on eBay as well then!!
  15. Hi I’ve replied. yes it displays the station name or song name in the audio of the mfd and will also display the navigation turn instructions if you can add option 37 to the canbus controller installation options list with VCDS though this does add the compass direction indicator in the top left - unfortunately this always says “N” (known issue) but the sat nav does show the true direction of travel anyway if you need to know!
  16. Yes I’m coming to the conclusion that even though I will only have two cars to use VCDS on at the moment a 3 vin license wouldn’t be that difficult to run out of if either myself or my wife’s car had to be changed for whatever reason so I guess I’ll be going for the 10 vin as well....
  17. I’ve sent you a pm so I hopefully don’t break any forum rules but let me know if you have a problem or any questions!
  18. I can highly recommend the Kenwood dnx521dab headunit that I currently have in my 2010 superb. Coincidentally it’s coming out of the car on Monday when I upgrade to a mk3 so it’ll be going on eBay if you’re interested! parts will include: head unit canbus module conversion loom (plug and play) FM Ariel booster/converter ipod classic lead skoda superb mk2 oem fascia sat nav receiver and metal backplate hands free microphone. literally everything you could need apart from a dab antenna (as mine is windscreen mounted so it’s staying put!). the whole lot will be going on eBay Monday and I’ll be undercutting the other units on there (that are just head units too without all the bits needed) by a good chunk to get it gone. picture of it installed below: the top image the fascia wasn’t fully pressed in place, it fits perfectly to the dash and looks totally oem. it has full pre outs for amps if required and is 50w x 4, plenty enough to improve the standard speakers. i ran a 500w amp with a 12” sub with it and it sounded great!
  19. Spoke to the dealer today and they’re happy to have the standard Bolero installed for the trade in so I tested it out today and it’s all working. If anyone is in the market for a Kenwood Dnx521-DAB with all required loom converters, sat nav receiver and the Kenwood canbus module plus the Skoda fascia plate that incorporates the passenger airbag light then mine will be going on eBay on the 14th at a very reasonable price!
  20. Ok after a bit more research it appears there is no line out on the head unit/processor in the glove box so the next question is where is the easiest place to pick up a pair of speaker feeds to tap either into the high level on the amp or an LC2i converter? I’m guessing at the unit in the glove box as I presume the speakers are all door mounted so wouldn’t be accessible from the boot?
  21. Might try the old one back in next weekend and see if it works without any grief after 4 years in storage then could possibly swap it out at the last moment before I arrive to collect the new one and chuck it on eBay cheaper than the others. Just wouldn’t want it sitting around afterwards. Guess it’s got to be worth £200 easily if someone was looking for one.....
  22. Ok thanks for the replies. 3 is enough for me, I just like to consider the what ifs and future proofing when I spend my money! i can’t justify the cost of the larger vin systems at the moment (already stretching myself buying the car!) so the 3 vin one will suffice.
  23. Bit of advice required, I’m trading in my 2010 mk2 superb CR140SE next week for a 2018 Mk3 sportline 280 and the dealer has told me its going straight to auction. when I got it there was a Bolero head unit installed without sat nav, DAB or a decent iPod interface (I had an alpine head unit with full iPod control in my previous mk1 octavia vRS at the time) so after a bit of research I got hold of the Kenwood DNX521-DAB that was supposedly the dealer approved upgrade of the time and fitted that. Been fairly pleased with it but now the question is do I leave the Kenwood installed and flog the Bolero on eBay leaving any new owner with a much better head unit installed (and the iPod lead in the glove box!) or go back to stock and try to flog the Kenwood? looking on eBay there’s plenty of both options and only 1 of the Kenwood’s has a bid on it at the moment of around £300 while the boleros seem to be everywhere for around £40. My gut is telling me it’s not worth the hassle and would be A: easier to use the Kenwood to get there (2 plus hour 130 mile drive!) and B: nicer to the future owner! Thoughts anyone?
  24. Thanks Gizmo, bit of a shame but fair enough I suppose! does that mean you can scan and reset faults on any car just not change any coding then without it using a license?
