I've had two of those 1.89 litre bottles, both Skoda ones*, and both fractured at the neck on second or third use - sheared across as I was unscrewing it from the filler on the tank.  They don't work out quite so cheap if that keeps happening.  I have since acquired a VW Adblue filler hose which has the same automatic flow shutoff mechanism as the 1.8l bottles but I have yet to find a container that it will actually work with - it certainly doesn't seem to work with the 5l VW Adblue container which several online sources swore it would.

I might have one more go with the 1.89l bottle, given the price of that Toyota one on Amazon.

    * When I tried to source a replacement from my local Skoda dealer I was told that they only do the 5l bottles now.  They suggested I tried the local VW dealer who, not for the first time, turned out to be snobby and unhelpful.

It works well with the VAG 10Ltr and Redex 10Ltr containers, that's what I use, even on the X3 as well.

    Hope it helps 🙂

What is it they say, when people say ours is fine?

    Time for a failure?

🤣 and that applies to absolutely anything not just car components ... is there some specific soothsayer course that I should go on 🙃

  3. I understand the fears, re the pano roof, but they dont all leak ... ours is seven and a half years young, and we have never had any problems with the roof and its kept outside in all weathers, best to take a careful look ... plenty of threads detailing the tell tale signs and obviously they are the ones to avoid, IMO they are stunning cars and the L&K spec is spot-on for us.

Just an opinion from a fault free owner 🙂

  4. Must admit I was never a fan of the GY EG tyres, maybe scottish roads as they seemed ok on the autobahn/autostrada surfaces,) but they were so, so noisey (road noise) they got binned early.

I’m going to try to return it to the dealer tomorrow.

At least you know what to fiddle with - I haven’t a clue 😂

Wouldn't bet on that one, they should but the abilities of some dealerships leave a lot to be desired. Apathy/disinterest from the service department on older cars is one of them, thank goodness they are not all the same.

    Good luck😋

I know this should be a different thread but whilst we are talking about coding, does anyone know the edit to change the default Stop/Start from ON to OFF? Thanks

To be honest it would be better if you started your own thread rather than hi-jack this very, very long one. The answer will also be easier for people to find rather than trawling through this one. 🙂

Interesting, what is your concern about Monroe shocks? I was advised they were top quality but my experience so far leads me to doubt that.

Its all very personal and subjective, but IMO, they are always too hard in the front and too soft in the rear and they don't, last ... less than 20k'ish miles before they go soggy and walloway (is that a word?)

My personal choice if you can get them are Koni, or Bilstein, but I have had very acceptable performance and longevity from both Sachs and Boge, but that's maybe just me. I've used all the mentioned brands (including the long gone Woodhead and SPAX) on most of my cars over the last 45'ish years of passionate tinkering on anything I have owned, so its just my opinion.  🙂

  8. Seemingly Sachs and Boge are now part of the ZF group, but here is the dampers link

    https://aftermarket.zf.com/en/aftermarket-portal/services-and-support/catalog/#/search?languageID=4&brandID=14,32&countryID=GB&vehicleTypeIDs=p&manufacturerID=106&modelID=8486&vehicleIDs=115192&searchField=vehicle&assemblyGroupIDs=1626,854,1180

I have never had an issue with Sachs or Boge replacements on previous VW's, but I have never been a fan of Monroe, not saying its bad kit, just not my flavour.

    Hope it helps,

Yes, I'm planning a 500 mile trip so let's see how they are after that. Still concerning that I can't find a direct replacement for the Skoda shocks, they don't make their own so someone must make them!

Sure its Sachs, that make the bulk of VAG dampers.

  10. Observing with great interest here, but one question re the MIB2STD, lots of talk on using 2 SD cards ... I thought the SD cards required to be Skoda original cards with the security permission (maybe wrong term used) folder/format sector.

If so re the 2 card solution, does it require an additional horrendously expensive Skoda SD card or is there a work around or am I mistaken in my interpretation so far?

Excellent work so far from all 🙂

I'm looking to fit a detachable towbar to newly purchased yeti, seems there are 4 main choices.

Westfalia, brink, thule, pct and tow Trust. Any experience for or against any of them?

Personally I usually use Westfalia, but Brink/Thule are the same kit and is fairly good kit ... just not cheap.

Dont forget to get your Yeti "programmed" so it knows it has a towbar so all the electrics and stability control works correctly.

Just one last (probably!) comment on this from me ~ I presume you have adjusted the steering wheel as far towards the rear of the car as it will go?

yeah, but what if the OP has short legs ..... eeek! 😱

It seems we will be waiting a long time for VAG as they seem reluctant to admit there is an issue. Their last reply said the service was not available for my car. Well it was until about two months ago.

If that is indeed true it would be disappointing, but until they actually come out and say what their fix is and what hardware it will be applicable to then its a waiting game. 🤕

Incredible that eight major motor manufacturers have allowed this to happen.

Seems a bit of a sweeping statement as you don't actually know what the issue is, contractual, firmware, etc, all you can say is on some manufacturers the TMC system is currently inoperable and currently impacting your VAG car. The issue is for the manufacturers to establish and put their own solution in place when they find it, other manufacturers issues and INRIX etc are all of little consequence to VAG who like other manufacturers will need to admit there is an issue and put their own spin on a solution at their own pace. For that we shall require to wait for VAG,  just my opinion🙃

Mine is plastic but certainly could not be described as structural or even fibre reinforced, its polyethylene with a plasic covered foam chocolate bar type matrix on top for acoustics and to catch oil, bolts, washers and 10mm Snap On combination spanners.

Mine is the Outdoor model but nothing on it is tougher or rugged than the other models, they just wanted it to look that way, -  they failed!

+1 for tywraps, bodging material of choice for most everything.

Fairy doo's J.R. we have 2 Yeti ( is that the plural ?) in the family, ours an L&K Outdoor 4WD and has the optional rough road kit which is defo more than polyethylene as I suggested maybe Tepex, but the other is a Yeti City? FWD version and it has a structural fabric moulded under tray ... both are facelift versions wonder why there seems to be so many variants of an undertray fitted during the life time of the model .. seems a bit excessive 🤔

  16. Hi, not sure but happy to be corrected, I believe the undertray is made from structural fabric unless you have the "rough road kit", which is a structural plastic (Tepex?) to protect vulnerable areas and brake pipes etc.

I sure someone will confirm or update my statement.

    hope it helps. 🙂

  17. Bird walking on a roof ... more like a ticking sound?

Could be exhaust tick down as the exhaust/heatshields etc cool it can have a ticking sound for upto 5 mins after switching off,

    or

as already suggested the aircon going into a ventilation mode and moving flaps about to cool the car /purge air after a journey.

    just some suggestions. 🙂

  18. TBH on a 2 week old car, I'd be telling the dealer and Skoda UK that I will reject the car if they dont fix it .... absolute nonsense that the owner has to fault find problems on a new car for the authorised dealer network.

Ask for the dealer principle and the sales director and give them your proposal ... bet it gets fixed pronto. 🥵
