Hi I haven’t managed to solve the problem. I am hoping someone else on the forum might have some ideas. Recently I personally checked the power to the fuel plug. When car is on it gets 14v on one pin and 1.7 on the other pin. This should mean the wiring is ok. The resistance of the fuel pump solanoid is 1.8ohms (measure across the pin) . Apparently this is within tolerance . My Research still suggests the replacement used fuel pump I bought is faulty. So it looks like I need to get a new replacement pump. I can only find cheap import fuel pumps for £70 to £90 (unbranded I think) Anyone suggest what else’s could be wrong or which fuel pump to buy?

Hi all problem solved. I did the rolling start and it still chattered. We got the starter out and tested on the bench. Our theory was correct sticking bendix not retracting fully. No real damage to the flywheel luckily as I didn’t drive it. Bendix was pushed in by hand then tested. I have to shorten the clip to get it under 10mb. Bolts all tight and secure, as starter motor been fitted and running ok for 7 months. I read another test that I could try is a rolling start to get the car started without engaging the starter motor. Roll car with key inposition 2. It says this will 100% rule out starter motor if the chattering is still there. Only problem if I park in cramped road 😔 What do you think ? A decent test? Also I went to try and remove starter motor and my socket set doesn’t have 18mm, it seems to skip that 17mm to 19mm. Talk about bad luck

I got time to remove the thick black wire from the starter motor, then turned on the car. I heard the click then clack which suggests the bendix is moving. Yesterday I did the 12v ignition lead test and that seems to working correctly, only providing power when turning the key to get engine running. It could still be a dodgy starter motor ? I am not sure if this can degrade the starter motor but when I heard the grinding noise for the first time, I popped the hood and was listening. I could then smell electrical burning and saw light puff of white smoke. So points towards overheating starter as it rotates too fast being stuck.

Original one died as this is what RAC diagnosed last year. Then I had a local mechanic check and they put a replacement starter motor in. They sourced it form Autoelectro which looks to be a company that reconditions starter motors. I have not looked at the relay which I think from research online is under the driver or passenger dashboard. The relay in the fuse box engine (no 100 written on top ) is not the starter relay

Thanks I just posted above to say I checked and there no continuous 12v being fed to the starter motor once the car is on. I am just a bit puzzled that a new starter motor (reconditioned Autoelectro ) which was installed 7 months ago has malfunctioned ☹️

Thanks I will give this a go. Early this morning I managed to find my circuit tester lamp and I checked the 12v plug to see if it goes to 0v once key back in position. Good news is, I think the electric 12v to the starter motor is working as it should. So we know the starter motor is not getting 12v continuously

Thanks for replying. Just to clarify So I disconnect the thick cable from the starter motor and then try to start the engine If the engine starts and I hear the grinding that means the bendix is stuck out . Have I understood right?

Hi all My Skoda 1.6 fsi 2006 petrol has an issue with the starter motor. It could be mechanical or electrical and I need any advice you can give m. Today I noticed a horrible grinding noise after start up. After researching the problem I discovered it is the bendix either staying jammed out against the flywheel or not retracting once the car has started. Does anyone know how to find all the relays? The only relays found was in the engine bay (no 100) The Skoda manual only has fuse locations. Anyone have advice on what else to test as the problem could be electrical. Many thanks in advance

Thanks for the information It is a difficult sound to explain, it is almost like a continous zip being pulled closed. I was thinking could be timing chain as it is an FSI engine? Or could it be the tappets like in the old days but that is more of a constant sound.

Hi All I assume the lambda sensor is at the front of the engine (pre cat). Is this correct, as some Octavia models have the lambda underneath the car. Also how do I unclip the sensor? Is it by unclipping the plug to the right of the sensor plug? Thanks

I noticed an intermittent rattle, that comes and goes whilst the car is idling or driving. I have searched the forums and YouTube and it could be the timing chain or a pulley on the S belt. Anyone know for sure or experienced this before? Short 60 second clip of engine rattle

I think I have a problem with sun roof drain pipe. I discovered a lot of water in the driver footwell. I dried the carpet and pour water in the sunroof trap to test it, and the footwell was wet again. Water is not coming out of the water pipe outlet? (See picture) so i assume the drain pipe is not connected. Does anyone know how do I get to the inside of the drain pipe connector? Is access from the wheel arch? Or elsewhere ?
