  1. I have spoken with Skoda Customer Services this morning, who had repoened my case upon request from VWFS. VWFS asked SUK what evidence they had to counter the Inspection Report, high-resolution images and background information I had supllied. SUK only had the word of the Dealer and a few low-resolution images taken within a dark workshop. SUK agreed that their "evidence" could not stand up to my hard evidence. VWFS also contacted the Dealer, who could provide no further reason to deny the facts.

Thats pretty shocking - the dealer just didn't pass on the info because they knew they would be in the wrong by the looks of it.

  2. all cars in the UK have to run on 95 ron by law - you might find some engines produce more power on the higher octaine fuel because the ECU can adjust.  used to see it on the fuel caps on the more powerful 1.8t vag cars.  my old punto GT ran better on 97+ petrol but it was a ancient turbo charged engine

Cheers - that helps a lot, especially re the snow foam being PH neutral

obviously depends how dirty your car is, I've washed mine every week since I got it at the end of may so the pH neutral stuff is enough. I also use a wax on the wheels which helps protect from the brake dust.

  4. I got a bosch AQT 35-12 for £65 off amazon a couple of weeks back and a 6m extention hose.  Got my snow Foam lance from cleanyourcar (B&D attachment for the AQT as its different from the early bosch fittment) and used valet pro pH neutral snow foam.  Autoglym bodywork conditioner shampoo and p21s/R222/S100 wax.

the power washer will remove some of the big bits but the snowfoam does a not bad job of gently softening the other stuff.  it won't take all dirt off but its pH neutral so won't remove wax.  you get harsher alkaline snow foams that clean better but they also remove wax/polish.  The kids enjoy doing it too.

I'm amazed as it hasn't looked this shiny since I've had it (had a long transporter trip through storms!). I'm awaiting details on the products the chap used today on it - definitely need to invest in a machine polisher and a new pressure washer. He reckoned I'd need to reapply the sealant on it in about 4 months.

I only use the pressure washer for the snow foam as pre-wash - don't use it for rinsing after the wash.  I thought about a machine polisher but it wouldn't really add or speed up my waxing.

  6. I use p21s which is also known as R222 and S100.  S100 is the cheapest version but I had to buy it from the states but it was still £12 cheaper than R222.  super easy to use, you don't have to let it dry and it doesn't mark plastics.  Downside is it doesn't last too long but its so quick and easy to use.

  7. can't comment on the ride/handling/mpg of the petrol vrs but I've got a 150 tdi estate, 3 kids (11, 5, 15 months) and a GSD.  recently went to yorkshire.

dog, case and pushchair in boot

also had a medium sized roof box - no dog and everything would have fitted in boot.

I've also fiited a very large pram and two mountain bikes in the boot (wheels and forks off.

so the boot is pretty good.

Samuel (6) sits in the front on his high back booster seat while Lynne (wife), lewis (11) sit in the back with sophie (15 months) in her very large rear facing child seat.

  8. Don't forget that the Octavia is not in the same class as the Insignia, Mondeo or Passat (that would be the Superb from Skoda).

The Octavia is a C-class car comparable with the Focus, Golf, Astra.

I also think the review is quite fair & the negative points are pretty weak, almost like they had to dislike something.

Nothing is a big reason not to buy one...

While that's true, I had a vectra before hand and the Octavia is bigger. I could have got an insignia estate but it wasn't as big either

  9. The cars are underequiped but then they are 2-2.5k cheaper than others (if you compare to insignia, mondeo).  I do think its a bit shocking the SE doesn't even have steering wheel controls for the music etc when its pretty difficult to safely change to another song.   Given the octy is in the same group as the astra etc it looks even more spartan.  I didn't buy it for the toys but I do miss my steering wheel controls :(

I understand that the odd component will fail or be assembled incorrectly. Most of my new cars have returned to the dealer for some form of warranty work (usually for faulty electrics). What annoys me this time is that I have to prove manufacturing failure, rather than Skoda having to prove abuse. A 6-month / 6,000 mile new car clutch warranty is farcical when a manufacturing fault may not show itself within the first 6,000 miles. The onus should be on Skoda to prove the customer has abused their car. If it has been abused there should be evidence, and my pictures look like no other "abused clutch" I can find on the internet.

Sorry for ranting. I am feeling just a bit annoyed with Skoda.

If you look at EU directive 1999 44 ec, that gives you two years effective warranty from the seller and you don't have to prove the problem.
