I'm not sure they entirely knew. They changed the resistor and it still didn't work the first time they had it. But before they fitted the new one they stripped it all down, cleaned it up, redid the connections and it did work so they refitted it.

Good news, the old fan works! That saved me a couple of hundred quid.

Happy to report no petrol smell this morning. It possibly was partly caused by starting up and immediately getting stuck at the entrance of the garage for ages due to traffic. I think if I'd pulled straight out I wouldn't have noticed anything.
I did notice when clearing out the embarrassingly large amount of litter in my glovebox that there was a black rubber seal lying around in there.
I wonder if they assumed I would be leaving it and then when I said I needed it at the crack of dawn they threw enough of it back together that I could take it.

Hello,
Have been sifting through this thread, trying to see how many people have had exactly the same issue with a sheared bolt head on the fuel rail,
With a pattern forming, and all these complaints, how are Skoda UK not taking this seriously?!
Just look at the trails and puddles my Spaceback left behind, when I parked it briefly to go into the garage to do the paperwork.
(Partly obscured by my friend's Vauxhall, as he shadowed me on my tentative drive to the garage).
I've just posted details of my fuel rail failure under: Major Fuel Leak - Due to bolts shearing on the fuel injector rail assembly
I'll be citing the number of complaints on this forum in my letter to Skoda, to try and get my replacement parts refunded, at the very least.
I anyone has been successful in getting compensation/goodwill gesture from Skoda on this, please let me know.
P
Mine left a trail like that to the next village! I got my repair (done by local garage not dealer) reimbursed by Skoda. Had to write them a letter before action and then they paid up.
We were a few months out of warranty btw.

It's been serviced pretty recently including all the filters and the timing belt. The smell was not there when I left the car with them, and dispersed once we'd managed to pull out of the garage into traffic. Hence I am assuming they have removed some panels beyond what I can see?
-
Reminds me of the smell you'd get with the choke right out in the old days. I assume smells pass through the missing panel and no blower to diffuse it.
God knows why they left it like that, I told them I needed it tomorrow and the fan isn't due in till then.
Ex demo car, 400ish miles when bought, 60k more since.

Does explain the intense petrol smell on starting though!

My car has come come back with half the dash parts not attached cos it wasn't worth putting it all back in till the replacement arrived, I think it's a time consuming job!

So, according to the garage the whole fan has given up and needs replacing.

2016 colour edition. I didn't try changing the fuse as the book suggested the same fuse ran the air con, and that seems to be working. I popped into the garage and the first thing they asked is whether it worked on 4. 😀
-
I actually realised it had gone because I was suddenly getting excessively warm, so must've had it on a working setting when I started out.
-
Nothing on 4 either, no warning lights on the dash. When I was travelling at speed I could feel a trickle of ice cold right by the vent so I think the air con did run.
-
Hi again,
my blower fan stopped working yesterday. I was going to try changing the fuse before taking it to the garage, but looking in the manual it seems to suggest the same fuse controls the fan and and actual air con. Am I reading it right? I do seem to have air con, it's just the fan doesn't push it through on any speed.
If it's definitely not the fuse I think it'll be a garage job.
Thanks.

Not sure which it was but it was a whopper! I didn't get round to trying it as I was short of time. Didn't get my new tyres either, cos they were sent winters instead of all seasons, so I ended up with a puncture repair to tide me over. 😀

It's a colour edition with 16" wheels. 🙂 I just borrowed the spare from someone's Polo to get me to the garage and it is indeed a 185 60 15.
-
I'm glad we have this forum for information. I tried phoning Skoda earlier to ask what spare I would need, they said a 16" one but they don't have any part numbers they can give me, try my local dealer. So I rang the local VW dealer and asked them, they took my reg and said a 14" steel wheel. I asked what tyre and they said maybe a 175 55 14? I don't think either of those answers were correct.

I sent them a letter before action to their main address, they paid my bill in full. It was just under £400 so they presumably thought it cheaper to pay than defend.

Just to let you all know, Skoda have replied and have offered a free service for my troubles (I think they are worth around £200). Would you take this or fight it further? Next step I need to pay £25 for the Small Claims Court.
Sorry I didn't see this when you posted it. I didn't have to initiate court proceedings, I just wrote the letter before action telling them I was planning to take them to court and they paid.

The nut that sticks out that you have the charger clip attached to, is painted.
You need to have the charger clip touch the end of the earth lead that the painted nut clamps on to the inner wing.
This lead goes down and towards the back of the engine bay.
If the charger clip just touches the painted nut it won't charge the battery. 😮
Thanks AG Falco
Thanks, that would explain why it started after I charged it, but wasn't very charged and stop start didn't come on even after twenty minutes of driving around. 😃 After I moved the clip I was just wasting my time! 😮

I think it's a smart charger but I've borrowed it (again) so would have to check.

I took mine to a local garage as it was close and I assumed it would be something easy to fix. When I found out it was a defect and Skoda wouldn't reimburse me, I wrote them a letter before action and they paid up.

Fuel Leak!

I got a letter from my local garage detailing the problem. Got fobbed off by customer services so I wrote to head office titled "letter before action" and got a cheque for the full amount. And that was before all the other cases, so it looks even more like a manufacturing issue now it's happened over and over.
