  1. On reflection I think your right. At the time it suited me and was happy not to rely on a repair kit. We live an learn I guess.
  2. Hi Shaw8670. My previous Mk 3 with 18inch wheels and had no spare and i made the mistake of buying the "correct" space saver from Skoda dealer. I do a lot of miles and didn't want to rely on a repair kit. Cost the thick end of £200 as i remember. Fitted in the recess perfectly with the polystyrene insert taking up the gap between the wheel and boot mat. When i changed the car for another Mk3 which had a full size spare i kept the space saver thinking i would sell it on easily as it had never been used, genuine Skoda, tools included part etc. As it turns out not a lot of people want them, not locally anyway. I think the steel rim with suitable tyre is the most popular option and perhaps only consider a space saver for ease, from a selection POV. I still have my space saver in the shed getting in the way. I'll get round to advertising it again at some point. I cut up the poly insert and used part of it as a storage box above the boot floor. When the spare is in the recess there is really very little room for anything else.
  3. Don't make the mistake i did. I bought a new space saver, jack and tool kit for my 16 Plate 190 DSG with 17" wheels from a dealer, then i traded the car and the new Superb 150 had a full size spare. Now tripping over the thing every time i go into the shed. Still, it looks nice though!! I haven't checked, but i'm sure it would fit all 16, 17, 18". MartiniB mentioned about fitting on the rear. I've seen that in here a few times, always fit the space saver to the rear otherwise it can mess up the ABS and cook the diff, or so i have read.
  4. I would guess that it might be a broken spring. They tend to break on the first coil so not always obvious to see when you look at it. Only really becomes clear when the weight is off the spring completely. I had similar experience with a Fabia and a Mondeo, OK I know its not SKODA but a Macpherson strut looks more or less the same no matter what manufacturer your looking at. I would jack it up so wheel is clear of ground and have a check of the spring. Please remember not to be under the car without stands.
  5. When i got my MK3 the Adblue was full so only just had to fill it. When i got the car i planned ahead and bought a Skoda (VAG) filling hose knowing that i would be filling up at some point. As i put down the miles the 1500 miles warning came on and i was content to let it run down a little. When it reached 800 i called into Halfords and bought 10ltrs for about £10 i think. Next time i was home doing nothing, mileage now down to 600, i thought i would just "go and fill up". Filling hose screwed onto car but the cap for the Adblue did not fit, it was too large, b***cks! Went on line a bought 10 Ltrs in a VAG container for £12. VAG container turned up, millage now down to 600, went out to the car, screwed the hose onto the car, screwed the hose onto the container and it fitted, lifted the container up and held it upside down and the Adblue started to flow, then stopped after about 20 secs. Container down, check hoses bla bla bla, container back up, started to flow then stopped. After about an hour of trying to get the Adblue to flow i gave up. I had tried everything that i could think of but it will not flow. I do around 100 miles a day so had made the call to go to local dealer to fill up as i could easily do 600 miles in a week and i didn't want the Adblue to get too low. Pulled into dealer with the computer telling me that the max fill should be 14ltrs. Machine clicked off at 13.8 which i thought was pretty accurate. Ignition on, no warning bong, range reset to 7500 miles immediately, i waited 30 secs cause that's what the manual said, started up and away. Anyone else had bother with these hoses? I have since sat down and really looked at it. It isn't complicated at all, but for the life of me i cannot get the Adblue to flow through it into the tank. It will flow through when not connected but will stop working after about 20 seconds when connected.
  6. I would agree with Penguin17. Having just "moved" to the cleaner crisp display from the buttons on each side, i think i prefer the feel of the buttons. Also the newer display is obviously made for the left hand drive market. All the touch buttons are on the left of the display which would be finger length reach from the steering wheel IF you were sitting on that side of the car. That said, the display is TV quality for me, bigger, and just nicer to glance at, seems to have more customization too.
  7. Put all the essentials into the new (to me) MK3 from the old one. Now have a boot liner, set of cargo nets and a space saver 18" spare well with tool kit. In Northumberland if anyone is interested.
  8. In my last Superb (66) I had a spare and tool kit that came out of an Octavia. The jack was a scissor type rather than one that had a protruding arm, sorry don't know what the technical name is. I ve seen on a thread somewhere that you should have the scissor type as they are more robust for the heavier Superb. Never needed to use it but always felt that it would have been sufficient. I have bought a space saver and tool kit for my current S3 (16) and the kit part including the jack seems to be identical to what I got out of an Octavia. There doesn't seem to be anything "Superb" about it, just a standard scissor jack. One thing to remember whatever you go with is that these jacks are for changing wheels only, not for lying under a car supported only by the jack.
  9. I,ve seen in another thread that ACC works only on front brakes and not rear, couple that with the fact that most of the breaking effort is done on front (unless car is fully loaded) and the rears don't often get applied heavily, hence the disks corrode. Also seen that in general disk quality is poor and after market options are much better. I had a Passat in 2015 that suffered from disk corrosion. After a bit of research I discovered that if the car has been a pre registered one then it is much more prone to disk issues. The feeling was that if the car had been sitting in a stock yard for a few months then the disk corrosion would set in so to speak. My last S3 had all disks replaced at 10000 but by selling dealer (non Skoda). I remember reading that Skoda will honour warrant only if car has done less than 7000 miles. Also, it might be important to talk to dealer about premature failure rather than corrosion or wear as this could be considered as normal?
  10. Had a similar situation on my S2 estate. There was a thread on it. General consensus was that it was a delamination of the strip caused by water ingress and not high PH cleaners. Several people had manged to get dealer to repair as I remember (3 years ago). Was a big deal on the estate as it meant changing the rear window fitting or something. Anyway, some people had it repaired under warranty.
  11. Just got a 16 plate Mk3 with the light interior and have to say i love it and that was after spending way too long thinking about it. Previous car was a MK3 with Alcantra, no issues, before that Mk2 with black leather, no issues either. BUT for some reason the light interior feels like a nicer place to be. The only bit that i have noticed marking up is the sill cover on the driver door where it seems to have revealed that i drag one of my legs in and out which i wasn't really aware of before! The ventilated seats are nice too, i've found that the lowest fan speed setting works best for me. Only use it on really hot days (so not often) other wise the AC does the job.
  12. Typical, couldn't find it before and found it in about 30 secs after last post, lots of good info here.
  13. Hi, there is a thread on this which i cant find even though i posted in it!!! From what i understand there has been many instances where the front door seal catches the trim of the rear door and dislodges it which can then get blown off by the wind. When i saw it on mine i looked on here and discovered that it is or was, part of a recall, sorry cant remember the number. Anyway, took mine to my dealer and they replaced the trim and the door seal under warranty without any real issues. I'll have a hunt for the other thread and if i find it post it here.
  14. Hi Bejam. I've fitted two plastic rear guards from "Rearguards". They both came with two strips of 3M double sided tape already applied. You positioned the guard, marked it, started to remove the backing from the second side of the tape, the fist side was already stuck to the guard. Then it was a case of pulling out the tape while holding the guard in position. Think i remember it saying don't wash it for 7 days or something like that, to let it get a grip. Neither of them moved a jott. Just remembered that the surface has to be clean - grease, dirt, polish free. They came with a wipe to achieve the required solvent clean after a wash. Anyway, not a hint of silicon in sight.
