  1. Thanks for your replies. I do have auto start stop. My old battery was dead for a week while I was away and after it was recharged by RAC, I got couple of error messages on dash. But once I drive round the clock messages disappeared so I was thinking of swapping by myself with sane type rather than changing to AGM.

I don't know if it's worth taking the risk as some messages on the forum say you must "tell" the car it had new battery while others say no issues. I don't have any VCDS equipment and nor can find anyone near me on the owners list.

    Decisions, decisions..

  2. Hi, I had a flat battery, RAC came and told me battery health is 40% and needs replacing. They also quoted £300 for a new one so I said I will get it somewhere else. For now, car starts and stops and I have left it running for half an hour or so.

Halford are quoting around £200 for agm battery fitted.

Current battery is 69AH,EFB and has lasted 6 years. I can get this EFB battery delivered and was wondering it's easy to replace it myself without needing any coding or lose radio etc as I am not changing battery type?

    Thanks for reading my msg.

reach over from the drivers seat and open the passenger door then pull the bonnet release as normal

    Seemples :)

I know it sounds simple but it's not possible. When car is remotely locked, it uses dead bolts and then it can't be opened from inside..

Asking these questions makes me think if I am stupid and missing something but it's Skoda who have messed this up in design when converting from LH drive to RH.

12v jumper pack through the cigarette port?

Sorry for daft question but is it just a case of plugging in the jumper in port or anything else needs doing? Don't know if this can damage any wiring..

Any reason you just can't reach over to the passenger side and pull the lever ?  I must be missing something here ?

I know it's crazy hut the design is such that the lever is very tight against passenger door and won't really move without door open.

  5. Hi, I need some help please. I saw some earlier posts on this but those were from few years ago so just wanted to ask if there is any update.

I am in UK and My skoda has a flat battery. I can use key to manually open driver side door. However the bonet release handle is on passenger side. Car was centrally locked so passenger side, socan't be opened from inside. With passenger side door closed there is not space to pull bonet release handle.

Any suggestions please? I will call RAC but not sure what can they do?

    Thanks. J

  6. Hi, I have a 2014 1.4 TSI skoda octavia. I am really confused about timing belt and water pump replacement so please help me. My local skoda dealer is very unhelpful and always giving different answers.

    1. When do these need changing? Is 8r both every 5 years or xxxx miles. I don't drive a lot so years is more relevant. Is it both changing or just belt?

    2. I was under the impression that there is one fixed price maintenance cost for replacing timing belt and water pump. Seem to remember 8t was around £599. Looking on skoda UK website it says £479 for belt and £379 for water pump. My local official dealer refused to do work on fixed prices.

    Thanks again

  7. Hi, any pointers as to how to replace rear brake lights on my 1.4TSI UK octavia.

Apologies if this so covered already. I can't seem to find my manual at the moment and I had a look in the guides section on the website but couldn't find anything.

Also which bulbs do I get? It seems red brake light bulb is not working. I had a look on Halford website and couldnt see one...

    Many thanks

You may find Goodyear Eagle prices expensive if your thinking is that official wipers seem quite expensive. (I agree with you on this, hence my link for refills).

And I do not think you will get them in your tyre size.

Ignore the 'Ultra High Performance-Fast Road' Bull, but they are good tyres. Sorry but I do own the company, Lol.

    thanks.

  9. Hi - Got my 1.4 TSI serviced today in london and got few advisory. So appreciate some pointers please.

    1. Recommended tyres? Thread is down to 3 mm  on both front tyres so looking to replace in a month or so. I saw a thread here 2-3 weeks ago but cant seem to find it. sorry for asking again! My car suffers from the "sonic boom" issue so anything that can help is good... My tyres are 16 inch

    2.  where to source the wipers? official ones seem to be quite expensive. Also how do i work out which ones i need? i had a look on eurocarparts but there seem to be few options.

    3. I was told there is some water in exhaust pipe and i should give it a run on a motorway. Dealership say nothing to worry about. I drove the car on motorway (about 500mile round trip) couple of weeks ago, so was wondering if there is anything else?

    4. On the seat belt, there is a little plastic button which stops the buckle from falling down to floor. I need one on drivers side. where do i get one from? dealership quoted around £15. I know its not a lot in grand scheme of things but for a bit of plastic it seems ridiculous.

    Many thanks

    Edit: Added tyre size

hi,car (2014 octavia 1.2 petrol) went to skoda dealer last week for service and was told that with car being 5 yrs old it was due for cam belt change.took car today for belt renewal and was phoned later in the day to be told that as there was no maintenance info in their system for my car for belt change that the belt is classed as a lifetime belt(?!) and therefore did not require replacing.they actually turned down money.anyway got them to give me a print out stating that it was a lifetime belt.this has left me uneasy on the fact that in previous post everyone said to get belt changed and no-one mentioned anything about a lifetime belt.any info would be greatly received.thanks.see print out below

Can I please ask which dealer is that...

  11. Thanks for ur replies.i bought the car when it was 2 years old and am not a boy racer by any means. For what it's worth previously was owned by a retired person...

I will try to find another skoda dealer but in the meantime if anyone has any recommendations for independent garages then please doet me know.

    Thanks

  12. Hi, my 2014 scoda apparently needs timing belt change. It's done a grand total of 22,000miles but I am  told its the interval thats important... Its 1.4TSI dsg octavia

My local skoda dealer told me its £699 to change...

What is realistic price I can expect to pay in london and any recommendations on a independent VW specialist in NW London?

    Thanks

Before investigating all possible problems try the most likely and easiest to fix first. Blocked spray jet  heads. Mine stopped unexpectedly last week and it is easy to worry about all the possible problems it could be. It was only after I cleaned the discoloured looking mettle heads with a very fine small needle, that I remembered they hadn’t been all that effective for some time. Exert force from behind and on the left hand side of  the hinged cap covering the jets. Fine needle should go in at least 1.5cm.  If not use force to achieve that depth. If there is no or little resistance then the problem lies elsewhere with the water delivery system.

I didn't know there is a hinged cap.. Will try your suggestion.

  14. Hi- an having some problems with rear window cleaning. Suddenly started few days ago. For first two days, window cleaning fluid was coming out but it was very slow and no spray. Now it is almost completely stopped except few drops...

I only use filtered water and fluid so I doubt any debris came from there... Could it be any bird droppings hitting bulls eye.. How do it clean it. Just try to poke a needle or something small and sharp?

Front wipers are working fine so don't think pump is the problem..
