  1. No need to ring the dealer.

This is completely normal. It will be a DPF re-gen running which when the engine is running, disables stop start and revs stay at 1000.

If the engine is switched off, you will hear the fans and smell as it carries on if interrupted. Usually takes about 5 mins or so.

Nothing at all to worry about :)

You will hear of some people telling you to go on a long drive until it's finished but ignore this as it's not needed and designed to carry on if interrupted.

  2. Shop around.

I got my vRS diesel hatch with DSG, black pack, sunset glass for £20k brand new. I do get a good discount through work though but i've seen people manage to get similar deals without employer discount etc.

I got a Salisburys loan at 2.9 which worked out much cheaper than PCP/PCH of Skoda Finance plus I'm not tied into any agreement length or maximum mileage. I can sell up when I want.

    AFAIK it's a cabled-only feature...

Ah probably not worth it for me than. I like to put the phone away on listen to music via bluetooth. If I do have my phone cabled in on charge, the phone is in a cradle on the windscreen so using google maps etc would be easier having it placed there than having to look down at the Skoda screen.

TSI is so much nicer to drive then TDI, completely different story. It's not about horsepower, it's about how it is easy to drive it gentle, quietly, how it is elastic from low rpm, how it smoothly delivers it's torque. TDI is loud, stiff clutch, stiff stick, vibrations, turbo spool noticeable, etc...

TDI has only consumption advantage, all the rest is on the TSI side. With petrol Octavia RS you will have an impression driving higher class car. Go for petrol, we own both in family, O3 TDI 150HP and O3 RS230, two worlds.

Well having owned both vehicle I cannot notice a difference at all on a normal commute. Maybe on a track day you would notice but other than that, felt and drove the same.

Just because you don't have a use case for it, don't dismiss others - for instance, if you use Android Auto or want to plug the phone to charge, that is a great location.

The so called "phone box" doesn't fit a modern large phone with a cable plugged in the USB plug.

You have a USB connection in the glove box, you can put the phone in there and plug it in?

There is another reason, you're limited to 184 ponies.....

I've owned both petrol and diesel. I cannot notice a difference on a normal commute.

If you are doing 20/30+ motorway miles or more on a commute then diesel is the best option.

If you are going 4 miles into town then get petrol.

  7. There are only talks of places like London putting a 'tax' on diesel cars. These will only be for older diesel cars though not new ones likes ours with regens. Also.. If driving in central London regularly.. why on earth byy a diesel in the first place.

Diesel is gonna be taxed outta existence over the next few years, together with all car manufacturers stopping any form of development I can't see it being a good choice.

    Just saying

No it won't. It's press scare mongering. The government has already said it will protect diesel owners.

  9. Bank loan better option.

Not restricted by miles etc and get rid and get a new car whenever you want. 9 times out of 10 it'll work out cheaper too.

I got mine on a 2.9% Sainsbury bank loan. Manged to get 23% off list price too so I could sell this car now and actually make a profit clearing the loan.
