  1. So - the euro trip begins on Sunday, decided to take the roofbox as it will keep the cabin clear for the majority of the trip. My only question is - has anyone really tested the top speed with a roof box on? We have a few stretches on Autobahns and to be honest they are some of our longest stints so want to make up as much ground as possible. It's a Thule box with Thule aero bars - so should be up there with the highest quality...
  2. This is all booked now and has largely stayed as it was except we are now going to Reims instead of Metz for the dog deworming. Thanks for all the advice and tips so far. As far as I'm aware the only vignette I need is for Switzerland - is that right? The other countries we are doing are France (which is pay as you go), Germany, Austria, Italy and Slovenia. Also - I've heard a few silly rules that can catch people out, such as Dashcams are not allowed in Austria? Are there any more random laws that I may fall foul of?
  3. Now I'm fairly certain there are a lot more road trips planned that just my own. Regardless, my other half and I want to enjoy our first ever 'brand new car' together and have decided our summer jaunt is going to be taking the vRS to Europe for a 2 week trip. Travelling every other day, to give us at least a day in each destination to do a bit of touristy stuff if necessary! The plan is currently as follows; Day 1 - Long trek, Calais to Alsace (France) Day 3 - To Bavaria (Germany) via B500 Day 5 - To Kitzbuhel (Austria) probably via Bertchesgaden Day 7 - To Lake Bled (Slovenia) Day 9 - To Lake Garda (Italy) Day 11 - To Lucerne (Switzerland) Day 12 - To Metz (France, need to get the dog wormed 24hrs before back to UK) Day 13 - To Lille, for overnight stop before early train to Folkestone Please feel free to critique my route, only the tunnel is booked at the minute. Only stipulation is that we have a dog! Looking for; Things to do roads to drive (and roads to avoid!) top tips for European driving (I'm not a complete novice, but this'll be the first 'road trip') top tips for touring in general Cheers
  4. Does anyone have CCTV at home that they can view live on their phones, but also record onto a HDD as well? If so, which system have you used/purchased? looking to cover around 4 'angles' if possible. Night vision/IR would also be fantastic. I have an android phone if that makes any difference. Ta
  5. On the iPhone, there is a sounds on/off switch, rather than progressive. And there's only two categories (ringer and 'volume', for apps etc). With the Android, there's four categories, and each is independent of each other, so if i turn the whole phone to 'vibrate', the media could be at full blast still! The quickest way I've found on the android to manage all sounds at once is to unlock phone, adjust volume, swipe down on volume slider on screen, adjust independent volumes. Quickest way on the iPhone? Flick switch. It may be me being pedantic, but it's the little differences that turn into major ones when you've been set in your ways for a number of years!
  6. Cheers for all hints, tips and tricks guys. There's a few things that I've noticed about the device being inferior to the iPhone 6 (which is over 2 years old now). Touch screen not as accurate Speaker is naff Annoying having different volume controls and not an overriding 'silent' switch (rather than increase/decrease) Apart from that, it's great. Yup, all the apps work roughly the same so no worries about that. The smartswitch feature when setting up the S7 was awesome in transferring iOS stuff to the S7, most apps I then installed didn't even require me to sign in (not sure if that's the smartswitch or google ID). Also loving the 128GB SD card that's now in the S7, means lots of car pics! Pros and cons I guess, but definitely saved a fair few pennies in the old contract as well.
  7. So - I've made the switch. iPhone 6 to Galaxy S7. Main reasons, fed up of the 'no storage' messages on the iPhone (16GB) and the upgrade contracts are massively overpriced for the new iPhones, compared to the absolute steal I've been given for the S7. Anyway - regardless of the reasons.... Has anyone made the switch? Any tips? Must have apps or things to be aware of?
  8. What are the odds on this fitting a Mk3?
  9. Loving those matt black exhaust tips - should be an option on the black pack IMO. Anyway - this is me. Bog standard as only picked up form the dealer this week.
  10. I can finally add to this list! Picked up on Wednesday - took 3 1/2 weeks from factory exit to delivery. Mk3 vRS 184 TDi Combi Black Pack Plus Winter Pack Foldy mirrors
  11. So - the 'running in' begins. 100 miles done. Once the oil is up to 90 I'm starting to put my foot down, really enjoying the power delivery through the low - mid range but already itching for more in the flat spot at the top 15-20%. Also noticing the oil temp shooting up every time I give it some beans, just after a little 30 second blast before I caught up with the car in front I noticed it had gone 100+. Is this normal? Not had a car which accurately reads the temp to the degree before, so maybe I'm just being a bit picky!
  12. The advantage of the screen heater isn't just the time it takes to defrost, it's also the manner in which it defrosts. It does it without any physical 'input' from the owner. Personally I'd rather wait an extra couple of minutes than scrape away at the windscreen with an old credit card, risking scratches by moving grit and who knows what else is trapped under the frost.
  13. Got to love the subtle differences that get changed throughout a marks life!
