  1. Back again. I had someone take off my turbo a few weeks ago and I sent it off to checked and rebuilt. Turbo went to a place called Turbo Rebuilt ltd. Their inspection stated that the turbo had suffered extensive oil contamination and this had worn the bearings. They repaired it and fitted new gaskets. I also got a new turbo oil feed pipe as they recommended. Anyway, new oil and filter too and got car back yesterday. No bloody difference! It still stutters and smokes.... Could this still be the turbo? Am at a bit of a loss now...
  2. Actually, I am going try see if I can keep it and make it run again 🙂
  3. fair point. maybe a turbo refurbishment instead as that is my main issue
  4. When my fabia Vrs Diesel was running properly I usually got around 400 miles for about 42-45 quid (depends on where I filled up) and that was averaging 70-75 mph on mostly motorway runs. Going from Bristol last September on a sunny day to Northampton I stuck it at 70 max both ways and the trip computer said 71 mpg average, though I am not sure how accurate that really is. As I now own an Audi TT 2.0 petrol that old figure looks bloody lovely to me!
  5. My skoda is now off the road and I have bought something else, but I have been toying with the idea of getting a 2nd hand engine and turbo and then using it as a high miler workhorse. How viable do you think this is and would it be insanely expensive? I know a good mechanic who is not that expensive but very capable. Just wondering before I get rid of it. Interested to know what people think and maybe keep a VRs on the road. Cheers Car is a fabia VRS diesel btw....
  6. Are you still interested in my VRs as I have found a new car? Let me know. Cheers Admiral
  7. fair point. When you also get an estimating department price a biggish job light and you have to make it work, that is a complete crap sandwich too...
  8. Dont fancy going into contracts management? From experience it was more stress and a lot more hours for not much more pay, but on the position side it was indoor work with no heavy lifting positive side! ....
  9. I started as a sparky apprentice, approved spark etc. Like you I didn't fancy sticking it out till retirement
  10. Diversify, try and get into M&E Consulting and out of contracting.

Are you still interested in my Fabia Vrs, or I might part-x it?

    Cheers

  12. ok, sounds good. I am based in Cardiff, that an issue? Had new front drive shafts and CV joints put on it about 2 months ago. 4 good tires in last 6 months, no error codes etc. Its been such a good car! Waiting to find out about a car I am looking at and will have an idea of time frame.
  13. given the mileage and the cars I am looking at replacing it with I cant part-ex it, so it may have to be scrapped.
  14. I did that 2 weekends ago, helped a bit for a day or so but now the same
  15. Right. After many weeks of faffing about with it my mechanic has told me to get rid of it. He took the turbo off, pipes etc. and said turbo was blowing and not compressing properly, pipes and egr full of carbon and intercooler and pipes very oily. Has MOT january and he said it wont pass. Still drives ok if you stay off the turbo otherwise there is juddering and smoke. Shame, as i love that car and was hoping to get 300000 out of it 😞
