  1. Problem with wireless charging system finally resolved, took my car in for service and asked the dealer to check the charger as it seemed to work sometimes if you pressed down hard in the corner - suspected a bad connection - technician inserted his phone and after a short period where is worked fine started to cycle between charging and not charging. He filmed it and agreed that it was a warranty issue. New charger ordered fitted and now working fine with I-phone SE and Antye wireless charging case - result. Thank you Bickerton Skoda of Sheffield for believing me!!
  2. I tried Iphone 8, didn't work. retried my SE and it works occasionally for a a few seconds or any random time it decides to work. Works perfectly on my "hockey puck" home charger. Suspect I have a bad connection so will remove the side trims from the centre console and wiggle the connection to the base of the tray. Might also be a bad connection in the fuse box but that involves removing the glove box! Another "Simply Clever" feature. Fortunately the case I'm using allows me to "flip out" the receiver plug and connect a conventional cable without removing the case.
  3. Replaced my Iphone 4 (which worked OK although it cooked it on one occasion - suspect the cheap charger circuit) with Iphone SE. I have tried a number of wireless charging cases including a separate charger coil which you fit in the back of the case - but the charger works intermittently or not at all. All the chargers work fine on my desk wireless charger (like a hockey puck). Asked my Skoda dealer to check it recently and he confirmed it worked OK with a none Iphone. Will try my daughter-in-law's iphone 8 as I suspect it is the metal case of the iphone SE itself that the phone charger objects to as it comes up with a message to say its not charging and to remove any metal items in the charging tray. The iphone 8 has a ceramic back.
  4. Finally somebody has listened, 5GB vs 12GB = 5 hrs download vs 12hrs. Don't expect to take this car outside British Isles so a big saving on download time. If I do (unlikely) will either download a new map including the destinations or use my TomTom which has updates for life and only takes a few hours to update.
  5. The UK speed camera update installed without any problems, yet to try it out. Thank you to the author. Its a pity that the main Nav data file cannot be trimmed for the UK only (and also delete all the other VW group references) as I suspect that a lot of users have no need for anything outside the UK and would be relieved not to have to leave the computer on overnight to download the full12GB file! On the subject of POI's, when i select POI on the main screen it only shows Restaurants, Petrol Stations and Parking. Is there a way to edit this and show other selected POI's?
  6. Always set to fastest route. I have spent nearly 50 yrs finding my way around the UK so also really only rely on it for the last stretch - except in some rural locations like the Broadlands in Norfolk where my daughter now resides. If I plot a route to my local golf club - not that I need it but purely as a test - all 3 options send me down a farm track - true it cuts the corner off but as it is not surfaced and has encroaching hedges, I can't think it would a wise route. Same applies to another farm track near my daughters in Norfolk. I also cannot believe that leaving a main road and then travelling on 2 sides of a triangle before rejoining the main road again can be construed as quickest, shortest or greenest ( apart from the grass in the middle of the road). The file size is still extreme as the TomTom equverlent (UK & Europe) is far smaller. Does anybody know how to plan a route using a "via" command?
  7. Just downloaded latest Sat Nav update for my MIB2 Amundsen(STD2_915_EU1_2018). Installed and working. Can anybody explain to me why the file has to be so large (12 GB). It takes 12 hrs to download - I do it overnight - and and hour or so to unzip to the SD card. If you watch the unzipping you will notice files for VW & Seat - surely these files are unnecessary and only add to the file size and, in my experience over years of trying to implement software updates for multi product firmware, can lead to unexpected crashes if the software strays into these files. Can't the software developers be **sed to edit the files specifically for the brand. The current version still tries to direct you up a number of farm tracks, which i have tried to edit out on the map site "Here" but are still selected. On one route in Norfolk it takes you right off a main road at a traffic island, takes you 200 yards on a minor road before turning you left down a small narrow lane with grass in the middle before you rejoin the main road! I keep my TomTom in reserve under my seat
  8. I have a 66 plate SEL and used Bluetooth on long run a couple of days ago. Noticed the Bluetooth dropped out after about 3 hrs. Searched for the phone on the Amundsen and it couldn't find the phone ( it picked up the white van in front!). At a set of road works traffic lights quickly called up settings found the Skoda pairing and re-established the connection. It dropped out 20 minutes later. I reconnected when I reached my destination. I have a new IPhone SE running IOS 11.0.3. Can't remember it happening with my IPhone 4 running IOS 7 so don't know if this is an Amundsen or IPhone issue. I had the phone sat in the wireless charging bay - wireless charging is fitted to this car ( a charger receiver case was not fitted so the phone wasn't charging or overheating). Any ideas, will try Bluetooth in the body of the car ( not in the charging bay) and will try my old phone back in the car to see if it drops the connection.
  9. Updated my MIB2 (Octavia III SEL Oct 2016) from the Update portal - it showed both ECE 1 2017 & ECE 2017/2018 - the latter being a slightly larger size. Downloaded both to my hard drive overnight (8hrs download each file!). Decided to use ECE 2017/2018 as it appeared to be the more up to date. Followed instructions:- back up existing SD card to computer (then to portable HD) unlocked & reformatted card to FAT32 with 4k segments unzipped to SD card (took over an hour) and removed and locked inserted and ran Navigation worked OK but! Daughter's road on new estate (completed June 2016)near Norwich not shown despite it being on "Where" WEB site ("Where" appears to be source site for VAG maps) - also not shown on my TomTom Route navigation still tries to send me down a local farmer's track despite having edited it on "Where" as a bridleway only - myTomTom directs down the proper road I noted during the unzipping process that the file structure includes sub directories for VW and SEAT. Not sure what i've achieved in the download apart from consuming electrical power. Can't see the point in having such a massive file to include SEAT & VW + all those countries in Europe we shall never ever visit! Simply Clever could involve an update without the VW & SEAT files and a UK & ROI only option for the majority of UK drivers who do not take their cars over the channel. I personally fly and use my Tom Tom Europe & ROW - life time updates
  10. My pre-reg 1.4 TSI auto SEL 66 plate came with it as a fitted option, once I bought the correct case my i-phone 4 charges nicely and boosts the signal as well. £8 for the case was cheaper than upgrading to Iphone 5/6/7 ............ after all its only a phone! It also has memory seats, adaptive cruise control and front parking sensors - nice little package of extras all thrown in.
  11. QI compliant case for my iPhone 4 arrived and voila it works. Must say the design of the Powermat version is better in as much as it has a flip top (easier to remove the phone from the case) and has a mini USB charging point for charging in the case when not in the car and all for £4 rather than £8 for the Qi compliant. The wireless charging was fitted in my pre-reg car so didn't have to make a price/value decision. Very convenient feature e.g. No leads and the media player catalogues all my albums + the phone signal is boosted. Additionally polite Mr Amundsen reminds me to take my phone with me when leaving the car. Now to tackle putting POI's on the SatNav it looks a nightmare from what I have read. Not as simple as the TomTom!
  12. Have just taken delivery of my new SEL (Dec 2016) with Amundsen and was keen to try out the Sat-Nav as I previously used screen mounted Tom-Toms. Put in my short drive to my local golf club - approx 2 miles - it came up with 3 routes all the same! 1) despite enabling POI's for golf clubs, my club - circa 103 yrs - it did not show it but showed one nearby which had closed 2) it wanted to send me down a farm track / green lane which happened to cut the corner rather going via the main - a B road incidentally! As I only tend to use Sat-Nav for finding unknown final destinations ( usually the last couple of miles) or for "off trunk road routes" when reaching a serious delay, I'm not too worried, but will carefully study the suggested route in the future! Not impressed so far, will keep the Tom-Tom handy!
  13. 1.4 TSI SEL auto estate in Corrida Red with 16" wheels. Extras over and above SEL include: ACC KESSY front sensors wireless charging memory seats heated front seats space saver spare wheel Lifeshine treatment Traded in an A4 Avant 2.0TFSI auto - no regrets so far!
  14. Yep came to the same conclusion, ordered a QI compliant case for the iphone4 - it was twice the price of the Powermat unit so lets wait and see!
  15. Collected the car and it has wireless charging. Obtained a POWERMAT case for Iphone 4 and tried it in the car. No charging but signal level improves! Powermat web site has App but this requires ios8 - don't think IP4 supports ios8 so why sell a case for an iphone4! Will contact Apple / Powermat or has anybody ant suggestions?
