  1. The legality of whether your car can tow or not can be found in two places. On the car on the VIN plate (low on the B pillar - drivers side). There should be 4 weights in kg. The top one is the Gross Vehicle weight and the 2nd one below is the Gross Train Weight. By subtracting the 2nd from the 1st you get the maximum permitted trailer weight for towing. If the figures are the same, or if the 2nd says 0000kg then it is not homologated for towing. The towbar fitter should have checked. These wights can also be found on the V5 Reg Document.
  2. The button has been removed on Model Year 2018 Kodiaqs, but all is not lost. With help from contributors on another forum, you can now de-activate the internal alarm sensor by pressing the lock button twice in quick succession on the remote fob. If you were to lock the door and set the alarm with a single press the red led on the door top starts it's intermittent flashing within a number of seconds. With the double press de-activating the internal sensor, (after the initial flurry) the red led takes about 30 secs before it starts flashing. If, you do de-activate it through the infotainment .. it does not stay off but reverts to full monitoring at the next unlock / lock action. Not such a faff as was initially feared !
  3. Dog owners like me, will have a little surprise with their new BY2018 Kodiaq. Do you remember that very handy button on the driver's B pillar, that you would press on your previous Skodas when leaving your dog or kids in the car.. to cancel the internal alarm sensors before locking .. Well they've removed it ! What a Simply Clever idea ! Instead of the simple one press, you can now fire up the Infotainment system, select the setup option, scroll down the options to opening and closing and then unticking the Interior Monitoring option. I quite liked the button in my previous 4 Octavias but hey ho, as I've spent over £30k on this flagship SUV I'd just as well spend more time in the cockpit faffing with the Infotainment setup options. As for the technophobe wife .. the dog will have to get used to the alarm !
  4. Do you have a 5 or 7 seater. The 190 7 seater has a max nose weight of 80kg and Max Towing mass of 2300kg. The 5 seater has a max nose of 100kg and Max Tow of 2500kg. Whilst the gross vehicle weight sounds reasonable at around 2.3 the actual kerb weight with driver is down around 1800kg. It's really all in the loading of car and caravan. If the car is loaded to 2300kg with passengers and luggage then should (at the 85% rule) be safe to tow a fully laden van at 1950kg. I'm towing a 1500kg Compass Rallye with my 190 5 Seater .. well within the recommended limits and it's well worthy of all the plaudits. No surprise to me seeing it as Tow Car of the Year 2018 ! ( In fact I wish I'd put money on it winning ! )
  5. https://tools.skoda.co.uk/content/brochure/kodiaq_pricing_specs.pdf Pricing and Specifications published early July including the 5 seat versions. Confirms the 5 seat 190 DSG 4x4 has a max towing limit of 2300 kg and a nose weight of 100kg. Interesting also to see the CO2 emissions for the 5 seater are 150g and scrape into the VED H Band saving £300 on the initial VED cost of the 7 seater which at 151g is in Band I.
  6. It all sounds marvellous, if you like this sort of thing. Personally, I like a car to drive from A to B. with few distractions except for Radio 2. And if I'm stuck in traffic and feel the need to check my emails, WhatsApp, Facebook or (god forbid) Briskoda .. it's all on my phone ! Admittedly, I don't have kids in the back demanding wi-fi .. I'll get my coat then !
  7. SEL and Edition now showing with a 5 seat option on the Configurator .
  8. Thanks but that's not giving the SE L & Edition 5 seat versions. I've seen them somewhere !
  9. I have ordered, finally after my original cancellation following towbargate. Now going for an SEL 2.0tdi 190 DSG 4x4, 5 seat version, and a TOW BAR for piece of mind ! Hopefully, the towing limits will be better than the 7 seaters with 2000kg braked and a 100kg nose weight. Delivery October. Excellent discount through Motor Source Group.
  10. Finally got to test drive the 2.0tdi 190 4x4 DSG .. wow ,, loved it ! Great drive and as a shed dragger the towing capabilities of the 5 seat version are impressive. If we go for it, will probably be our forever car ( or a good few years anyway until the lottery win! ) Just in negotiations with a broker v dealer.
  11. Had it confirmed by Skoda Customer Service via live chat today .. SEL and Edition 5 seat versions are now available to order through retail.
  12. It seems that SUK have listened and in the newly published June 17 Price list and Specifications have now made it clear that certain variants are not homologated for towing and can never tow. Well done Skoda UK !
  13. It's obviously not far off .. you can find prices and specifications for 5 seat variants of the SE L and Edition .. Example here at What Car .. https://www.whatcar.com/skoda/kodiaq/estate/2-0-tdi-190-se-l-4x4-5dr-dsg/80341/
  14. Just beginning to see some rumours on the net about 5 seat options becoming available sooner rather than later on the SE L and Edition variants. What are other people hearing out there?
  15. The noise, whining and assumptions come from the fact that Skoda UK have been unable and/or unwilling to make the situation clear. A large flagship SUV incapable of towing ? There must be some red faces .. hence the coverup !
