Hi it has been suggested that cars built 2019 May    to   2020 May have had the stop and start option terminated because of diesel gate  so you are not allowed to code  them anymore is this correct or is it is a misconception thank you for previous post

Sorry, I don't know and it's not something i have heard of. Sounds like a load of rubbish to me.

Was using Carista to change the Scandinavian lighting on your car a easy thing to do do did you have any error problems and will this device also turn off stop and start

Yes very easy, just select the option and apply. No errors or anything. No it won't turn off as the stop start only cuts the engine not the power, so DLR lights, radio, headlights, and rear lights etc still work as normal when the Stop/Start function kicks in.

Just stumbled over this, might help someone – way above my understanding though but it seems to have all the new firmwares as downloads:

Thanks for this, very helpful. How would we know which one to use? I know firmware updating can be fraught with issues though.

Thanks for the reply ...Carista looks easy enough but I was just worried about once I plug it in and do a couple of changes that I would do permanent damage to the cars ECU or something.....BTW to date I've had 41 views on a post with the word "Carista" in the title so anyone clicking into would have had an idea of the content but only had one person that could be bothered to help out ...not great !

Sometime people might be reading the subject, but not have time to reply and may reply later. Like me:biggrin:

Anyway, I've used Carista on my car and anything you change can be changed back. I've enabled the Hill Hold, and like the one you want, the rear Scandinavian DLR lights, as well as a couple of others. You will be fine changing things via Carista. These things are tested a lot before being released to the public.

does music playing through CarPlay work properly? I updated by iPhone to ios14 and since then I keep getting crackling and distortion when playing music through CarPlay. ( on my 2018 faba 1.0 se)

Does this happen to you as well?

Yes! Funnily enough my daughters phone which we got for her a few weeks ago updated to iOS 14 when she first got it. When we tried out her new phone in the car to try out the Apple Car Play etc, the music, both Deezer and Amazon Music both were crackly. We wasn't using an original Apple cable, so i just put it down to this. Both my wife and myself have Android phones which doesn't have any issues playing music from Deezer or Amazon Music. I haven't had a chance to try her iPhone in the car with an original Apple cable as yet.

  6. I have found the weather has played a big part in me trying to keep my car clean and looking good. Given most of the country (apologies if you haven't) has had detailing unfriendly weather since early in the year. Sometimes it gets to the evening when it is an ideal time, but i just can't bothered to drag all the stuff out etc.

    @ncd

The dealership employee or the website is quoting you £169 is going by the price of 'Interim services' that were the Fixed Price ones at participating dealers.

Old websites and prices that changed at the start of 2020 had £169 & £289 services.   Minor / Interim & Major Services.   'Oil & Filter services for a while were £99.

£184 now for an 'Oil & Inspection Service' which is what the Warranty Requires but then that can be at 24 months / 18,000 miles-20,000 miles as the car left the factory with Long Life Oil and set for Variable Servicing.

You pay for the parts required, like the Pollen Filter if being changed.

What is yours on Variable or was it reset to Fixed Servicing @ 9,400 miles / 372 days?

The Extended Scope is now recommended at 3 years, so that extra £59.  Then the £60 Brake Fluid Change if you want.

To be honest i don't know if it is on a fixed or variable service, it was not something i was made aware of during the handover. I might just have to call the dealership i got it from, even though i had bad service from them in the past (long story)

Read the T&C's on your agreement.

If there are restrictive practices and a restricted market condition like 'Main Dealer / Approved Repairers servicing only' in the T&C's then so be it.

There are Independents that have all the gear (Licensed equipment, and that get Recall / Service Campaign and TPI's, can do warranty work with approval  and that can put the service info on the system.

Thanks, as mentioned in my original post, we can't find our T&C agreement. I think I will just get it done at an approved place, i just had bad experience with the 2 dealerships that are local to me, so they have lost my trust completely.

    Thanks again.

  9. Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked before, I've searched but couldn't find the definite answer. My Fabia was due it's 1st service during the Covid lockdown, so now things are sort of back to normal(ish) does anybody know if I must get my car serviced at a Skoda dealer/place with the electronic log book thing when my car is purchased via Skoda/VW PCP? I've tried looking for my PCP finance stuff for the T&C's but my wife has put them somewhere, but can't remember where. I've got a very good independent mechanic I trust, but he doesn't have the electronic log book thing, so will a paper receipt/log of the work done satisfy Skoda when I trade the car in, probably with Skoda again?

    Many thanks:)

  10. I've got this engine in my Fabia. It drives fine, and wouldn't hesitate in buying one again. People who have been in the car are surprised how nippy/quick it is and don't know what spec or engine it is. Most of our driving is around town and dual carriageways/A roads. We have just come back from a short break holiday, the boot was fully loaded (having a wife and daughter who take everything but the kitchen sink with them) and the car was fine and at no point did i feel the car was under powered. I've had `fast' and bigger/turbo'd cars (Golf TDI/Toyota RAV4) and don't drive my Fabia any different. The reason I got this car is because I got a loan one for 2 weeks whilst my Citigo was at the dealers for a clutch problem. I did'nt know what engine it had or anything, but was impressed how it drove. When I took it back I asked the dealership what engine it had and was really surprised when the woman told me. She laughed and said "yes, we often get that reaction, as people think it will be a slow lump". This is an argument I have on various forums as people only see the spec on paper and automatically and think it will be a lumbering slow granny car, but i know it is not.

Light assistant: for £80 I can see the leaving / coming home function of this being genuinely useful over the years, as said above the rain sensing portion of the pack that includes this is definitely OTT though.

The leaving/coming home option lights can be enabled via Carista. Much cheaper than the dealer and you can also do other customization things as well :

  12. I use a Saris Bones on the back of my Fabia without any issues. I used to have roof bars on my old cars, but got fed up getting new fitting kits and having to lump my mountain bike up onto the roof. With the Saris Bones, I can just put it on and take it off as and when I need it and not have the constant wind noise of roof bars etc. I've had since my Citigo so is easy to change from car to car.

The DAB aerial seems to be the roof mounted thing.

I say this as i recently went through a car-wash and forgot to re-attach the aerial, i had rubbish signal the entire journey home!

I also forgot to put the ferrite core on my dashcam power cable (Nextbase 512GW cam and hardwire kit) and haven't had any issue.

I think the Nextbase hardwire kit is better quality, as I had this in my Citigo without any radio issues. I got a hardwire kit from Amazon which had good reviews, to go in my Fabia which caused the issues, but in hindsight wish I just stuck to the Nextbase one.

Interesting, and also... WOW they're expensive from BlackVue, making out a reduction from £9.99 to £8.99 is a bargain when you can get 10 of a similar size cable for little over a fiver on amazon delivered. The entire hardwire kit that came with a ferrite core was only £14 ish.

I have one on mine at the moment, but I've only ever turned DAB on to test after fitting the dashcam which worked fine for all the stations I flicked through. I only really use Spotify personally as there is way too much pap on the radio.

    Glad its all sorted 👍

Yes I got the pack of 10 from Amazon delivered next day as I have Prime. I did a test first, I unplugged the dashcam from the fuse box then I went for a drive and the radio was perfectly clear as it should be so knew it was the hardwire kit. I got back put a couple of ferrite core things on each end connected to the fuse box again and redid the test drive. Again the radio was perfect.

Did you fit a ferrite core on the wire for the dashcam? They normally come in the hard wire kit and are designed to minimise interference.

They look like this and fit this way, with the cable looped through. Ideally as close to the dash cam end as possible iirc.

No I hadn't previously, but I ordered some from amazon (3mm core) as I saw this as a possible solution, I fitted one each end and bingo! I now have perfect DAB and FM reception. Thanks for the suggestions and advice, finally can listen to radio again without constantly changing channels!

  16. I'm trying to work out why I get such bad reception of my radio, both DAB & FM through a process of elimination and before taking it back to the dealer. I'm now at the point of wondering if it is my dashcam which I have hardwired to the fuse box (wire is hidden around the screen, down the A-pillar etc) is causing interferance as I've read this can happen. So I was just wondering if the DAB aerial is intergated into the FM roof aerial or is it somewhere else in the car? Never had this before with previous cars so trying to work out why its happening with my Fabia:sadsmile:

    Many thanks:)

    Hey up all,

The Mrs has just ordered a race blue and black Colour Edition which she'll be collecting next month. I've seen mention in other threads that HHC, cornering fogs and needle sweep can all be enabled via VCDS but I wondered if the blind spot monitor and driver fatigue warning can also be enabled via VCDS?

    Cheers.

As mentioned, by vc-10 the blind spot monitor can't be enabled by VCD. The options I've enabled on my Blue/Black colour edition via the Carista app/OBD2 is: Needle sweep, Scandinavian DRL which enable the rear lights to be on as well as the front DRL, anti-hijack door lock when the car gets above 5mph (wifey wanted this) and cornering fog lights. I've also enabled Hill Hold which was part of the `beta' release of the app, so not sure if it is in the current non-beta version.
