  1. Dead easy. As stated above.  Not an issue, reminders to add AdBlue start about 1500 miles left so again not a problem.

I would not hesitate to get the 150bhp, 4x4 DSG, ours has been awesome.

Thanks for this. The more I read the quicker I want to dump my Diesel engine!

I had one of those rare drives today.   35 miles cross country from Sussex into Kent on good A and B roads with next to no cars on the road and I overtook 2 very easily.  Left the TSi in Normal, good music on and swept along the roads. Cruised at 55-60 a lot of the way and computer said I averaged 36.8mpg. Very happy with that as I 'drove' the car progressively, not silly quick just a fast cruise.

    Loved it.

On the way back I had a slower run behind lorries and a bus.  Still very relaxing again with good music and an average of 37.6

As I am on the verge of ordering a 2.0 TSi (now 190bhp) I would be interested in learning what MPG you have been getting?

Hmm, overall mine does vary as I quite often take it along rough tracks and into fields which obviously does impact on MPG.  Apart from the tests above I have not really tried to keep any accurate MPG records.  Mine has now covered 3,500 miles so I assume it is now loosening up.

All I can say is -  for normal local running around within my local town I suggest about 32MPG, on longer cruising runs of about 150 miles of A roads and motorways I have seen 37-38MPG on the trip computer. This is a very rough guide not at all measured precisely.

  4. I really miss my Defenders but they aren't as good for long distance. Had Cooper's AT3 on my last one which were better imho than the BFG ATs UI had before.

Interesting that the Scout uses either the same Hankooks I use or the pirelli. Never had perelli Scorpion Verde.

Need to think about this. Thanks for the replies

  5. I want to change my tyres for a more all terrain biased tyres but keep my 19inch rims.  I am mostly on slippery muddy tracks and grass with the occaisional gloopy bit.

Can you advise your choice of all terrain tyre or at least a tyre that can cope with the above.  My stock Hankooks are ok but do struggle at times

    Thanks

Your driving style has a lot more impact on fuel efficiency than the drive mode; if you are in the habit of sharp accelerations and sudden braking, you’re screwed anyway!

Having said that, what transmission do you have? The drive modes make more of a difference (though still not a massive amount) on DSG cars because ECO mode doesn’t just alter the throttle response as with the stick shift, it also makes the DSG gearbox change up earlier, and also allows it to coast (i.e. go into neutral) when you take your foot right off the accelerator.

But it’s still more down to you as the driver - I can get really good mpg figures while in Sport (with the gearbox hanging onto low gears for all it is worth!) and I can get really bad mpg figures in ECO.

Quite agree with your comments, I drove all tests in 'chauffeur' mode to ensure consistency, I don't race or rally as the roads are generally too busy.  It was more of a test or exercise to see what the difference was and not specifically related to saving pennies on fuel.

It just struck be as odd that the Eco is MPG-wise the same as Normal.

  7. I know there a differences in the config for both but I was expecting better MPG from the Eco mode.  I regualrly undertake the same 60 mile round trip, uing some B roads, mainly A roads and about 6 miles of dual carriage way. After 3 trips on Eco and 3 on Normal the overall MPG is the same. The same to almost the same decimal point on the computer thingy. And it is always 3mpg better on the way back due to some very long inclines on the outward journey.

So why use Eco?  Any benefits i'm missing?

Otherwise I might as well just use Normal mode.

  8. Hi

I have recently taken delivery of a 2.0 TSI and I was wondering how these tyres perform on muddy tracks, wet grass and possibly snow.

I don't really want to put new tyres on straight away as I live down by the south coast we get very little if any snow. Your experiences would be welcome.

Just for info, I am very away of the benefits of AT tyres and winter tyres, I am just interested how these Hankooks might perform for soft off road and just in case we get some snow.

    Thanks

  9. An update:

I have had many new cars over the years of all types, sizes, drivetrains, power and trim levels - I have been very lucky in that respect.  So I am very used to swapping between cars on a very regular basis - I was linked to the motor industry so we had a huge number of demos from manufatcturers .  I make these statments because I can't remember such a big difference between cars as my change into the Kodiaq.  I just felt utterly relaxed and at home, as though I was putting on an old favourite bit of clothing.

I felt instantly comfortable and at ease and the the 2.0TSi provides a really good balance between power and smooth delivery.  I have only covered about 200 miles so far including short, long, off road [muddy farm tracks and fields] and a dump run and so far I have not one single complaint or issue.

I think this is the beginning of a long term relationship.  Hopefully my Kodiaq will be touring France next year and we have a longer term plan to take the long ferry to Santander and pootle around some of Spain, into France, Italy, up through Austria and then through Germany and back home.  That may not happen until 2020 but I can't wait.

I have not looked at fuel consumption yet as I have been 'playing' with the settings and I knew the 2.0 would not be the most economical. But I bought it for all of the above reasons and it fits the bill very well.

  10. Thank you to all who have helped me on this thread.

I am now the owner of a 2.0 TSi DSG 4x4 SEL.

After about 150 miles in it since yesterday in really sh!t weather I am absolutley delighted with it. I think I will really engine a long term relationship with this car.
