  1. Let this be a lesson to always play with taking your wheels off at home. When we got the 2011 Monte Carlo I checked the spare wheel and jack and everything seemed in order. Not had a puncture in decades. Had a puncture last night at 3 am with all the pot holes around the A34 and could I work out in the dark what was going on with the “big” oversized wheel nuts......no I could not! I assumed I had an adaptor missing as the lock nut one was there, but where the lock nut?  Finally worked out what the plastic pliers were for, popped them off  and got it sorted out after a lot of head scratching. I am used to my nuts being out in the open! :)

  2. This is actually my wife's car which she likes because it is red with a black roof! :D I actually don't find the suspension too bad currently and have had quite a lot of fun in it along country roads today. I've never reached a fuel cut....my scooby will cut fuel if you go really silly with the revs??  I hear some standard Montes come off rolling road with figures quite a bit above 110??  THe 99 ron fuel makes such a difference. As soon as you add a passenger though the car feels sluggish.

  3. I have a more general question about mapping.  Had the 2011 Monte 1.2 tsi for a few months.  I run it only on Tesco 99 or Vpower and with just me in the car it now actually feels quite lively - pulls well.  I'm not new to mapping as I have had imprezas for 15 years.  I don't want to spend circa £300 on the Monte for just a little bit more sparkle and slightly higher insurance.  If it is going to be a night and day change with noticeable perk then I will go for it.

  4. Our Fabia has very sticky rear drums. Stickiest of any car I have owned. Left it for a couple of weeks and it took some hammer blows to drums via a block of wood to unstick. Won’t leave it now for more than a couple of days with handbrake on. Particularly in wet weather.

  5. I know I know I know that the more weight there is in the car the less fast it will go - power to weight ratio etc. However, as an example, I toddle off to pick up my wife and daughters nimbly nipping along the country lanes. Once I have the three passengers ( who are all very slim I should add  ) the car just feels very sluggish indeed. I wonder if there is anything in the standard map that makes the car go a bit limp when it senses a heavier load. Or is it my imagination?

  6. I have been running the Fabio on Tesco 99 and driving it enthusiastically and it is great really! It is brisk and perky- bit wibbly wobbly in the corners but to be expected from a little  fairly reasonably hottish hatch - and for a 61 plate straight off the forecourt purchase I am very happy. I am content to imagine it may be running at more than the prescribed 105bhp, you never know! It is a lot more fun than our previous Citroen C3! :)

  7. Stainless will be regarded as a modification by your insurers so worth checking that as well. Is the three cylinder turbo'd? I am new to skodas! If it is and can be mapped would be worth doing with exhaust. Stainless will get you a few more ponies possibly. I have a full stainless on my other car and at least it is one thing that never needs replacing, but I have had the car 14 years. If you aren't going to keep it for years may not be worth the cost.

  8. Our Monte Carlo seemed to have a window problem on the passenger side. Wouldn't work. Dealer used the car key to reset it somehow. If you can wind it down and hold button down for a few secs it resets it somehow? We have been offered a window motor replacement. Currently having been "reset" it it is working fine.
