  1. Thanks! Yes I've seen quite a lot of media coverage of new cars' safety "features" such as lane assist and speeding bongs which happen when you go 1mph over the limit etc.

The Kia is quite old-school in the sense that there is a touch screen but plenty of simple buttons for things like turning off lane assist and turning hill hold on (part of my pre-flight process every time I go anywhere!) Buttons also for climate, heated seats/steering wheel are great too even though the buttons themselves are pretty low rent. I'm sure I'll miss some of that simplicity.

However, I am looking forward to an extra 45bhp and more space for the kids in the back.

I'd be interested in hearing any parents' experiences of driving with their kids in the vRS with the sports seats - do they really obstruct the view out the front that much? Have your kids been car sick as a result? That's my only slight concern, but having said that, they'll appreciate the lighter interior compared to the low swoopy proceed roof. I'm also looking forward to better rear visibility as that's really poor in the Kia due to the low roofline and narrow rear window.

  2. Hi All,

After a brief hiatus away from Skoda, I shall shortly be returning with a new Mk IV vRS DSG hatch in graphite grey. I managed to get a decent lease deal and I'm just waiting on the final paperwork and delivery timelines (it's in stock so shouldn't be too long to wait).

I previously leased a Mk III vRS 245 DSG hatch in red back in 2018-2020, so I'm looking forward to seeing how Skoda have moved things on since then. Since the Skoda I spent two years with an Audi A4 Avant 35 TFSI black edition and currently I have a Kia Proceed GT.

If you have any pointers for watchouts or things to be aware of vs. the MkIII, please do let me know.

I'll post pics when the car arrives.

    Cheers,

    Jon

  3. Just chased my leasing company about the order I placed for a Sportline 1.5 DSG. Been advised that the dealer hasn't yet confirmed the order back with them as there's a new model/facelift to be released.

Goodness knows what this will do to my estimated delivery date!

Does anyone have any links to what the new update/facelift will consist of?

  4. Hi folks! I’m new to the party - I’ve just ordered a Karoq Sportline 1.5 TSI DSG in quartz grey on a decent lease deal. It’s a factory order and the quote stated it’s a 2021.25 car. No indications yet on delivery times but it was estimated as January when I received the quote last week. My current lease ends in December but I have the option to extend until 15 March. Fingers crossed all goes to plan!

Got to say I’m actually quite looking forward to being back in a Skoda after I ran a new vrs Octy from 2018-2020. 🙂 Alas there are no good deals around that I could find for a new one of those right now.

    The wait begins!

  5. Hi folks, I've had a reminder from my supplying dealer that my 245 DSG hatch is due for its first service soon, and to contact them to arrange it. Not gonna do that as they're 200 miles away, but anyway I checked in the car and it says oil service due in 8,100 miles or 89 days. This would be the car's first service as it arrived with me from new in the middle of last February.

    Is there a consensus of:

    a) when the first service should happen - is it within a certain time period after 12 months? If I wait another 89 days that'd be 14 months after it arrived!

    b) what sort of cost the first service should cost. My local Citygate garage had a £179 price online.

    Cheers!

    This makes me shiver :tongueout:

Yeah but needs must. The car's filthy and I've not got time to clean it myself at the moment. Ideally I'd clean it myself with the two bucket method etc. but chances are on the weekend I won't be able to get the parking spot outside my house either. My car's red so at least the swirl marks won't be so obvious than it would be on black. :)

  7. Just found this video (thanks to Google) which shows someone replicating the exact same sound I'm hearing from my car. You need to listen with volume up to be able to hear it properly. It's clearest right near the end of the video after about 1 minute.

Still none the wiser to what causes the issue though!

  8. Nothing obvious from a quick visual inspection but I'm no mechanic and so it's tricky to know what I'm even looking for! It's a really odd sound - not unpleasant like a grating or rattling, it's more like a 'wobbling' or 'bubbling' mechanical sound that lasts for a few seconds on low throttle inputs occasionally. I reckon it might be something to do with the exhaust. Perhaps something is loose and it's resonating at a certain frequency of revs.

Car was new in Feb and only on about 3K miles.

  9. My VRS 245 DSG hatch is making an intermittent 'rattle' which sounds more like something mechanical wobbling - almost like the exhaust making slight burbles/pops. It appears to be coming from the rear nearside somewhere and can last for a few seconds at a time.

I know the sound unfortunately isn't a fruity exhaust but it's disconcerting as it sounds like something is loose or broken. The sound appears intermittently at low revs at low speed - usually I think when the car is cold but I'm not 100% sure about that from memory.

Anyone else experienced similar or have any ideas what it might be?

I have recently solved a little issue where I was getting a knocking noise on some uneven road surfaces, which I initially thought was suspension related. I eventually realised that in-fact the nearside exhaust pipe was sometimes banging on the dummy pipe. Further investigation show the bracket/rubber exhaust hanger that side wasn't connected at the body end! I found that the bolt was missing from the bracket.

When the car was new I'd complained that the two tail pipes were misaligned and the dealer had rectified this, but i suspect that they didn't re-tighten the bolt on that side after adjustment and it had eventually wound itself out and disappeared.

I found a suitable bolt, tightened it all up and not only has the knocking noise gone the car is generally a lot quieter so i imagine the bracket was also vibrating on the body-shell causing general background noise which would be very difficult to pin point where it was coming from.

Interesting. I'll check my exhaust too then as it might be something like that which is causing the noise I mentioned in my post above.

It appears at low revs when coming off the gas at low speed - usually I think when the car is cold but I'm not 100% sure about that from memory.

Why are BMW's so heavy? New Z4 M40i uses the 3.0litre turbo engine to produce 335bhp and 500NM but weighs an incredible 1,535KG. Compare that to Alpine (247bhp) at 1,080KG or Porsche Boxster S (345bhp) at 1,385KG and it just doesn't add up in a small 2 seater sports car. Despite having an 8 speed Auto box economy is nothing special at 38.1MPG combined. Think I will hang onto my 5 seater (590litre boot) hatch that weighs 1,370KG.

Big heavy 6 cylinder engine - check

Heavy chassis strengthening for convertible body - check

    Heavy auto gearbox - check

I think they're aiming it to be a bit of a hot rod style convertible, rather than a track focused lightweight sports car.

The Alpine isn't really comparable as it's not a convertible and has been designed and built to be as light as possible. The Porsche also has a lighter four-pot engine.

I do agree with you though. The Z4 shouldn't be that heavy and our far more practical Skodas put it to shame on the scales!

  13. I read somewhere that the latest iOS update by Apple enables use of Waze via Carplay.

I updated my phone last week while I was away and thought 'great! now I can use Waze to negotiate our 3 hour route back home!' I plugged my phone into the car and lo and behold no Waze app option. Textbook. :(

Has anyone tried it or had any luck getting it working?

Hi Yes this happens on mine, it seems to be worse if it has also rained and there is some surface rust on the disc. I notice it will do this from 3 days onwards of no movement

Ok, good to know it's not just a foible of my car then! Last time it happened I dabbed the brakes a few times while I was trundling down my road after setting off and they didn't seem very strong at first. Not the greatest or most confidence-inspiring feeling!

  15. Hi folks, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before...

My 245 has been parked up for the last 10 days or so (been busy with work and stuff so not had a chance to drive it). What I've noticed the last time that this happened is when I get back into the car and drive off the brakes were stuck and make a nasty noise before I could get moving. It was a bit shocking really as I thought I'd left the handbrake on at first!
