  1. Today was curtailled by time - my having to return to collect the cd player. I covered about 7 miles today. Normally I'd do 2 x 30 mins journeys or longer. These have been with an aging battery that was eventually 11 yrs old when I started to get the shut off messages. Also, now I have a new battery that was coded last Saturday. It was pronouned VG then and again 3 days ago. The problem appears to be battery non-recognition by the system. My over-arching ? is, how long will the system take to adjust to the new YUASA ?
  2. 2/3/24: I drove 3 miles & stopped in a quiet layby, opened my door & got 6 bongs. 'Not good' I thought but switched the cd player on & was greeted with 'engine on or shut down.' I tried this 6 times & eventually played 15 mins with the ign. on & key off, but got threats with shutdown. I drove 2 miles home to collect my new battery cd player & 'phones & 2 miles to a different park area. I switched Bolero on and got no warning notices & kept going. It played 2 hour long sides. Ponder that. I'll organise a Skoda computer scan next week. This is too hit & miss.
  3. I had a tyre replaced this afternoon at Fordingbridge T & B where they have never coded a battery & didn't know much about it either. The dowside was the Goodyear Excellence cost £100 - which is £15 more than I last paid 😞 Keep up the good work.
  4. Here is the News: the Bongs have stopped & the cd player doesn't ask for a running engine. It played a disc for an hour yesterday, and again today. The system has taken from 24/2 to 29/2 to fully adjust to the new battery. Thank you everyone for your suggestions & support, & especially to AGFalco for registering the new Yuasa battery last Saturday in Blandford.
  5. thank goodness I can just turn mine off.....should I need to. My fingers are crossed for a well-behaved Bolero tomorrow. Maybe some learning has taken place at last !
  6. Some I would expect but not others. However, thank you for this rivetting list. I have other news: Bolero played a complete cd side for 61 minutes this afternoon, as it always has. I shall say no more......except - MORE please !
  7. OK.....don't bother to look. I'm not worried that it doesn't work. I assumed battery registration would correct it but it would seem not ! Bolero is what I really do want in working order & not this shutting off it's dong now.
  8. Can you reveal the other 7 conditions, Warrior ? Hi ACF, As you say, it was good when you tested it, which means the stopstart [SS] should have been working, but wasn't. It worked for 8 yrs & when it stopped my local garage suggested battery voltage had dropped - the battery would be 8yrs old then. I assumed since registration on Saturday, SS would restart but it hasn't, except for those 2 episodes. What I have great difficulty in understanding why it's taking so long for a few things to start working again. SS I can do without but not Bolero. When I got there on Tuesday, Skodaman cancelled the coding appt. & said the system needs to adjust. However, since the SS false start I emailed Skoda man yesterday and asked if one of their scans will locate faults, then to organise one. I am chary of wasting dosh on a system that is learning the ropes again if all I have to do wait. Yes Bolero could easily be a seperate problem but how will I know - who will know ? The bongs: the vehicle is outside this window in the driveway & I'm sure I heard it recently bong 3 times. I've turned the volume of Bolero down so I don't hear it, but not enough, I hear ! These bongs started with asking for a running motor to save the battery. I'd not heard it before.
  9. Stop start doesn't work today & I see a circled A with an oblique through it. Also the cd player still wants the engine running to save the battery. The bonging seems more frequent, too. I'm having the front near-side tyre replaced on Friday afternoon by Fordingbridge Tyre & Battery. Although the Halfords man said yesterday the battery was in good condition, whilst I'm having the tyre replaced I thought I ask them to check this battery for a second opinion.
  10. Mmmm.......I assume when the battery was reconnected & energy was flowing the computer carried on without a break. Do you know if Skoda man was right when he said the system would soon catch up with realising there was a new battery in situ ? I thought it would instantly know the Yuasa was there. With start/stop working this evening it's been 4 days since you registered the Yuasa........as I say, I was expecting instant reaction. I suppose I'm used to installing something in a computer & it works right away. Vehicles adjust in a different time scale it seems ??
  11. Yes he did.......................why do you ask ?
  12. Well, O eager one, funny you should ask: I met with the Skoda man this afternoon who thought the system would adjust to the new battery after being registered 3 days earlier. I think he felt I was being too impatient as these things take time to adjust. Ummm ? I suggested I have it tested which I did at a local Halfords. The Halfords tester concluded the battery was in excellent & tip-top condition. 'You have a VG battery there' he said ! An hour later I stopped at traffic lights & the stop/start kicked in. It did again when I stopped in my driveway 30 mins later. The cd player ran for 2 mins without stopping. Tomorrow will be an interesting day. I have inadvertantly left my battery cd player in Ferndown so shall have to rely on Bolero. More news then. It could be icecreams all round.............
  13. I don't have the G4s = I remember now giving them away but I see a pair of Creative Pebble speakes at Argos Ringwood I'll check out.
  14. I have a pair of these Apple iMac G4 speakers somewhere but cannot use them. Apple crippled them by making the Apple speaker minijack as a proprietary 2.5-mm input, whereas the headphone jack is a standard 3.5-mm input. Also the G4 had its inbuilt amplifier just for it's speakers......
  15. Hello Brian, Last Wednesday I arranged to have Skoda Bournemouth register the battery tomorrow at 14.00. As it's still shutting off I've decided to keep the appointment but talk to the technician about Bolero & it's antics, and how to rectify the problem. The player came with in-ear 'phones that are OK pro tem but if there are problems with Bolero I'll visit Curry's to try out some replacements, while the problem is hopefully being seen to. Watch this space ! Terry.
  16. In that case the reset started with the shutting down message & swift shut down. The factory reset leaves no radio frequencies in situ. The installed cd plays when Media is selected, then the familiar shutting down messages & silence. I can banish the messages & shut downs by leaving the ign. on..........I'm trying to find out how long I can do this for. An hour at a time would be great ! Your battery sense wire needs a technician. I can still meet the Skoda tech & had an appointment with on Tuesday afternoon, to look at this....... If there is one, what then ? Do you advocate disconnection ?
  17. Factory reset didn't work. How draining will leaving the ign. on be ? I'm considering that as an option. I haven't yet because I have the portable player but that means using earphones.......
  18. HI there.....not yet but I will.............
  19. OK but how quick ? Will it suffer significantly for an hour with just the cd playing ? I tried a hard reset this morning. I kept my finger on ON/OFF for 10 secs but the turning off message came on & off it went. I tried it 4 times but never got past 8 secs before it switched off. The cd works, of course, with the ign. on but how bad is this in draining the battery ? I am now forced to use a portable battery driven cd player.
  20. The symptoms I get now - bonging & close down to save battery are the same that happened for the first time mid-afternoon on the 13th. The new battery was fitted on the 16th and they continued. If corruption occured it must have happened on the 13th. How? I was sat in the car listening to a cd until it stopped & that 'saving battery' message appeared. I was told battery coding would very likely solve this when the new battery was recognised. I have not seen the Bolero listening regime before. I would press On, with the ignition off. The disc would run for a hour or so until I'd press Off. I'd turn the ignition on to start the engine to move off. I have never listened to Bolero with the ignition on, or on the move - I use it as a static use device. If I understand you, when the ign. goes off I should be able to start it running for an hour at a time. (Codes are not needed as it seems they are stored in the intrument cluster at set-up & can only be got at by a Skoda scanner, so the handbook says.) I see your 'Switching' graphic has the last active source will be played. When I switch on the paused cd usually carries on playing . AG F: I'll try a hard reset & also reset to factory settings re: xman. I'm sure you have big hammers over there but I do have sledge hammer in the shed............ ? = what's the downside to leaving the ign. on while listening ? A quick trawl of the web reveals lots of Bolero gremlins that I've missed over the past 11 yrs.
  21. I listen to the cds when parked as I've been doing for years with the ignition off. How else should one listen ? This shutting down to 'save the battery' is a new phenomenon. Turning it on again lasts a minute or less before turning off again to 'save the battery' & often it will not even start again right away. As it stands, Bolero thinks the battery will go flat unless it turns off, and this with a brand new coded battery.
  22. Due to my growing strees about this Bolero shutting down I did not thank ASFalco for doing the coding today in sunny Blandford - Thank You. It was a blast !
  23. Hello there......I am sad to say Bolero still shuts down to save the battery and still emits those annoying bongs'. Would a computer system check reveal any contributary faults, or is that the same as this morning's scan? A Bolero shut down & restart has been suggsted by a fellow Skoda owner ?
  24. Hi. Can I suggest we meet to chat about it ? I'm interested to hear more about coding. Suggest where to meet & time & I'll be there...............
  25. The car will get an all-over safety check & the coding will take 30 mins. If you look at a coding video it's more than just putting new numbers into the computer. I know about AGM, 12v, 70Ah, & the new serial number, but not the other stuff. If any member has a VCD to loan I'll use it, but I just want to get this battery dealt with. I am assured the Yuasa battery was charged before fitting. It certainly gives the appearance of being so now. If the coding doesn't fix the problem I'll know in 6 days. This Skoda chap's first item was the lack of coding input is the answer. He sees more of these problems than I do & besides, I thought he was being helpful at £70. Skoda Salisbury charged £105 ! I am, afte4r all, hiring a technician & proper kit for an hour & the car gets a check over too.
