Is my garage lying to me ?
Hello Brian, Last Wednesday I arranged to have Skoda Bournemouth register the battery tomorrow at 14.00. As it's still shutting off I've decided to keep the appointment but talk to the technician about Bolero & it's antics, and how to rectify the problem. The player came with in-ear 'phones that are OK pro tem but if there are problems with Bolero I'll visit Curry's to try out some replacements, while the problem is hopefully being seen to. Watch this space ! Terry.

In that case the reset started with the shutting down message & swift shut down. The factory reset leaves no radio frequencies in situ. The installed cd plays when Media is selected, then the familiar shutting down messages & silence. I can banish the messages & shut downs by leaving the ign. on..........I'm trying to find out how long I can do this for. An hour at a time would be great ! Your battery sense wire needs a technician. I can still meet the Skoda tech & had an appointment with on Tuesday afternoon, to look at this....... If there is one, what then ? Do you advocate disconnection ?

Factory reset didn't work. How draining will leaving the ign. on be ? I'm considering that as an option. I haven't yet because I have the portable player but that means using earphones.......

HI there.....not yet but I will.............

Is my garage lying to me ?
OK but how quick ? Will it suffer significantly for an hour with just the cd playing ? I tried a hard reset this morning. I kept my finger on ON/OFF for 10 secs but the turning off message came on & off it went. I tried it 4 times but never got past 8 secs before it switched off. The cd works, of course, with the ign. on but how bad is this in draining the battery ? I am now forced to use a portable battery driven cd player.

The symptoms I get now - bonging & close down to save battery are the same that happened for the first time mid-afternoon on the 13th. The new battery was fitted on the 16th and they continued. If corruption occured it must have happened on the 13th. How? I was sat in the car listening to a cd until it stopped & that 'saving battery' message appeared. I was told battery coding would very likely solve this when the new battery was recognised. I have not seen the Bolero listening regime before. I would press On, with the ignition off. The disc would run for a hour or so until I'd press Off. I'd turn the ignition on to start the engine to move off. I have never listened to Bolero with the ignition on, or on the move - I use it as a static use device. If I understand you, when the ign. goes off I should be able to start it running for an hour at a time. (Codes are not needed as it seems they are stored in the intrument cluster at set-up & can only be got at by a Skoda scanner, so the handbook says.) I see your 'Switching' graphic has the last active source will be played. When I switch on the paused cd usually carries on playing . AG F: I'll try a hard reset & also reset to factory settings re: xman. I'm sure you have big hammers over there but I do have sledge hammer in the shed............ ? = what's the downside to leaving the ign. on while listening ? A quick trawl of the web reveals lots of Bolero gremlins that I've missed over the past 11 yrs.

I listen to the cds when parked as I've been doing for years with the ignition off. How else should one listen ? This shutting down to 'save the battery' is a new phenomenon. Turning it on again lasts a minute or less before turning off again to 'save the battery' & often it will not even start again right away. As it stands, Bolero thinks the battery will go flat unless it turns off, and this with a brand new coded battery.

Due to my growing strees about this Bolero shutting down I did not thank ASFalco for doing the coding today in sunny Blandford - Thank You. It was a blast !

Is my garage lying to me ?
Hello there......I am sad to say Bolero still shuts down to save the battery and still emits those annoying bongs'. Would a computer system check reveal any contributary faults, or is that the same as this morning's scan? A Bolero shut down & restart has been suggsted by a fellow Skoda owner ?

Hi. Can I suggest we meet to chat about it ? I'm interested to hear more about coding. Suggest where to meet & time & I'll be there...............

The car will get an all-over safety check & the coding will take 30 mins. If you look at a coding video it's more than just putting new numbers into the computer. I know about AGM, 12v, 70Ah, & the new serial number, but not the other stuff. If any member has a VCD to loan I'll use it, but I just want to get this battery dealt with. I am assured the Yuasa battery was charged before fitting. It certainly gives the appearance of being so now. If the coding doesn't fix the problem I'll know in 6 days. This Skoda chap's first item was the lack of coding input is the answer. He sees more of these problems than I do & besides, I thought he was being helpful at £70. Skoda Salisbury charged £105 ! I am, afte4r all, hiring a technician & proper kit for an hour & the car gets a check over too.

The problem, Warrior, is not being coded at all. As for damage, I'll have to get this assessed. I have spoken with a coding guru this morning at the Skoda dealer in Bournemouth who knew all about coding. He has arranged to have the coding done in 6 days on the 27th at 14.00. He quoted £70, which I readily agreed to. Location: I am near Cranborne on the edge of The Chase.

Bolero warning: Right now it lasts for 30 seconds then closedown appears for 20 seconds before it closes down. I came across in a related topic here - the Carista coding tool company. I gather it comes with software & instructions. I've asked for a quote for a tool to do the Octavia seeing that VW & Skoda loclly are making such a meal of what on video takes 10 minutes......my fingers are crossed. It could be cheaper than the £105 Skoda & £84 VW want........

ApertureS = Original was a AGM - see attachment. An email from Yuasa has just arrived which says "Just get the code from the old battery and change the last couple of characters (so the code is unique). This will be enough to reset the system." Warrior193 said this previosly in his answer to me. I will get this done when I find someone with the necessary kit. The warning I've mentioned. Zoomed out picture attached. For xman: Bolero is standard fitment. I am assuming the shutting off is part of the ECU which will reset when coding has occurred. Ordinary garages in this part of Dorset are not coding friendly....at least the few I've approached. A VW shop in Salisbury wants £84 to do it....I bet Skoda does too....but they're all too busy in the workshops to call me. I'll let you all know what happens, when it does.....I may buy the kit & do it myself but WHAT do I buy ?!! I'll surf the web for info as well........

ApatureS Hello. I will post photos tomorrow. The warning is as you suggest. I'll see if I can locate the original battery tomorrow. More then.

Warrior193 = a third thing occurs, & that is having looked here & the web, I know more about coding & Skoda batteries now, than the so-called mechanic ! Yes, the 2012 Mk2 I bought in 08/2023 so 11yrs old to me, has auto Start/Stop. I will follow your about coding. Tinbum = That's what the garage charged me for supply & fit. Now I am warned. I've never been overcharged here before but this what their supplier charged them. xman = The reg doc has 2012 1.6tdi Greenline II, & I bought it 08/2013. It does have Start/Stop. Yes - it has Bolero. I do not intend to use this garage any more & intend to talk with another about moving my custom.

Is my garage lying to me ?
This post follows one about my cd player wanting the engine on or it will stop - then stops, after working flawlessly for 11 yrs. It was suggested here the replacement battery hadn't been coded. I have attached a photo if the new Yuasa battery. My local garage changed the original 11 yr old start stop Varta for this start stop Yuasa for £220. However, the cd player is still malfuncting. I went back today only to be told by the senior mechanic that this Yuasa battery cannot be coded because it lacks the usual proper numbering & it is not an original Skoda battery. Only original Skoda batteries can be coded & do I know how much they are ? I said I don't care - I want a working cd player not one that shuts of & bongs all the time.it. I suggested they fit the correct battery. He said I'm stuck with the Yuasa & do I know how much an original Skoda barret will cost ? What do folks here have to say about this ?

New start/stop Yuasa battery not recognised.......Octavia 2 Bolero will only play with running engine despite new battery. Why ?
I have found info here & on the web about coding so thanks for the tip

New start/stop Yuasa battery not recognised.......Octavia 2 Bolero will only play with running engine despite new battery. Why ?
Hello......thanks for your quuick answer. No coding went on that I could see. I watched him take the old one out & just replace & connect the new Yuasa. I drove off to give them space for an incoming vehicle & discovered the problem had not gone away. Can you explain coding & how it's done ?

New start/stop Yuasa battery not recognised.......Octavia 2 Bolero will only play with running engine despite new battery. Why ?
I have a 2012 Octavia 2 Greenline 1.6 Tdi. It has been very reliable since I bought it in 2013. The Varta battery is original, which impresses everyone no end. I would buy another Octavia. Recently, however, I have been surprised by some irritating 'bongs' & 5 days ago the CD player asked for the engine to be started to save the battery. It then shut itself off. In view of the battery age, I had another stop/start battery fitted (Yuasa £220) yesterday, but this did not satisfy the cd player because it still shuts itself off & the bongs continue. The start/stop stopped 3 yrs ago & my garage said it was due to low battery voltage (?) I didn't miss it. I did, however, expect it to resume working with the new battery, but it hasn't. I rang a local Hendy Skoda for some quick technical help. I asked if I could talk to someone about the cd player problem in my Octavia.....'No' the answering female voice said, 'I only have 2 techs in & they are hours behind as it is'. She didn't even asked if I was a Hendy customer........! I was shocked to get such a brusque brush-off from a local Skoda dealer, and I am hoping someone here at BriSkoda can come up with some answers to put things right.
