P0101 is MAF sensor giving implausible reading while P0236 is listed as variously as MAP ( manifold air pressure ) sensor and turbo boost pressure.

Before spending any money have a good look at all the hoses for splits and at the joints for leaks. Look too at the air filter, the installation of it, the seal for the cover and that the cover is properly fitted.

I had P0101 come up three times last year but only on overrun. Twice in a couple of days and once about 6 weeks later. It did not cause limp mode though.

After the first two my local VAG specialist wanted to change the MAF sensor and quoted just over £200. Since no symptoms at all I have left it as across the various VAG forums there are several cases of replacing the sensor but the P0101 fault still occurring. If the fault becomes regular then I will get the sensor replaced so if not the fault it will be obvious.

Thanks, will check those things out

How long have you had this car? - I ask this in case you have the opportunity to return the car if recently purchased.

Are you doing mostly short journeys?

A 20 mile run will help, but be prepared for more of the same in the future. There are hundreds of posts on this particular issue, BUT, do not consider getting the emissions update done.

I bought it privately about a month ago so no chance of a return.  I wouldn't say it's all short journeys but there are some 4 mile each way trips to the supermarket a couple of times a week.  I have 2 members of my family that have this engine in a Golf and an Ibiza and they haven't had any issues and I would say our usage profile is very similar.

  3. I have an issue that the glow plug warning light started flashing, will clear if you turn off and restart the engine, it then threw up and EML.  Only did it after the car got warm (8 mile) and came on when crawling through stop start traffic.

Had the faults read P0101 and P0236 by VAG specialist, drove the car around as usual for another 2 or 3 days and now the glow plug light comes on every 3rd or 4th journey but on 1 occasion  the car went into limp mode I assume as it wouldn't; rev much above 2K.  Also I've noted that the car runs lumpy at anything below 1500 rpm and you have to drop into a lower gear but then it's fine.

Garage said first thing to try is for me to do a regen which I've been told to take to for a 15-20 mile drive and keep it at 2000 rpm, does this sound like it could solve the problem or am I looking at something more serious. It hasn't had the emissions fix done, mileage on car is 52000 and it's a 12 plate.

    Ideas?

    Thanks

This coming year our 2016  1.2 Tsi will be coming up to 3 years old. When I was working the car was changed every 2 to 3 years, however, two things have happened. 1) I have now retired. 2) Previously I was always looking to the next car but I am completely happy with this Skoda. So the big question is, do I change it or keep it. If I keep it do I take an extended warranty as I have read about some catastrophic failures of this engine or do I change it. The advantage of changing is I would like the DSG option but am I correct in thinking that the equivalent car is now the 1.0 Tsi and whilst producing the same power it is not as torquey as the car that I currently have.

If you;rethinking about selling please send me a PM with some details and a price

Hi again. Looking at some of your other threads I see you were after buying a 170 4x4 estate. In 2012 the diesel estates were rare because the hatch version had an offer on, whereas only the petrol estates had the same offer. There's a chance I know your car if that's what you got, and if so I have a DAB solution for you that works nicely.

    I've PM'd you!

  6. Hi

I have bought a Superb and it has a small aerial connection in the centre console and the FM tuner says "pure DAB" on one of the presets.  I'm assuming that the previous owner had a Pure add on unit but my question is does the Superb have a built in DAB aerial somewhere and the mini F-type connector is the way to access the aerial, I can't see an aftermarket on screen type but I know some VAG cars have a DAB aerial already built into the wing mirror.  Is this the case with the Superb?

  7. Thanks for the advice, looking around there appears to be more 140s than 170s,  does the 170 give a noticeable difference in driving, I've had the VW 105 and compared to the 130 I had later there was no comparison, the 130 was just so much drivable and pleasant all round.  Is it the same or in reality there's not much in it?

  8. Hi

I am in the market for an Superb Estate, was thinking of going for a 170 4x4 unless I'm advised otherwise, any advice regarding what to look for, what to avoid etc welcome.  I'm not looking for a high mileage example preferably 60K ish is about the ceiling

    Thanks

  9. I'm sorry to hear of your woes Donbrig, I appreciate exactly how you feel as i bought a new Triumph motorcycle last year and have been in a constant battle since March about the build quality.  Such a shame and really does taint your enjoyment,

The gearbox sounds horrific, you should push Skoda hard for an FOC replacement second time around.  Subtle problems and squeaks I can cope with, major mechanicals are a different matter altogether.

Where will you spend your money this time, it's so difficult to choose these days....
