Sorry for all the questions but has you have driven both. What did you think of the noise levels compared to the karoq. Just reading the forums on here, loads seem to be complaining about it. I'll be honest, it was a car I was looking at ( I do like Skoda styling) but the user comments put me off.

Hi , thanks all. Just been to test drive a Tiguan... Very similar to drive as my Octavia apart from being a more refined drive and quieter. I'll have a look out for a superb ( however really hard to find ! ) I do like the karoq so maybe I should just test drive one

Hi all fellow Skoda drivers. I'm currently driving a 66 plate Octavia 1.6 diesel and it's time for a change. The Octavia has proven to be a great car overall, personally I quite like the looks and size. However my biggest complaint would be the lack refinement and poor sound proofing. So it's replacement time. Looking for a roomy family car with a preference towards comfy and refinement . Budget around £20k. My list of options are Karoq (22/23 plate)( however there seems to be just as many complaints again about noise levels) Superb?(22 plate) ( I love the style and size, however difficult to find) And lastly a Tiguan (22 plate).( Yes a move away from Skoda, however very similar but hopefully much quieter) . Any recommendations please ?

At least they look more robust than the bags... Maybe the bag design was a cost saving exercise for manufacturer.

I think you are right, my car as just been repaired At dealer for the issue and part of the repair they change the reservoir. the new one doesn’t come with a bag . 🧐

I think the zero rate for cars went from April 2001 to April 2017( however I could be wrong) depending on emissions. My last 2 cars have been zero.

Hi all, sorry late reply . It does look like vw have change the design . My car has just been repaired by main dealer and the new replacement reservoir doesn’t have a bag.

Hi , no problem. I just called them and they Opened a case for me. They seem very helpful ( much better they I have found ford in the past) . Just explain your cars just out of warranty and low mileage. Also the fact this flush is only required because of a silica bag skoda fit . they called me with a offer also possibility your deal may also help towards cost .

Sorry I should of said why I asked age and if you go to main dealer. My advice would be to contact skoda uk direct. The bag issue is known and they will try and help, this I can’t fault skoda. my car was a 66 plate Diesel with around 46k miles. Like you I was shocked at the cost for the flush and on researchIng the issue I found it relates back to this silica bag( again I believe to be a design fault). After negotiations with Skoda direct I’ve received a large contribution to the egr valve and the flush. My quoted repairs were around £1240 To which skoda paid most of the bill. I Only paid total £340. originally I felt let down by the dealer And brand but both worked to get my faith back . my flush was Originally quoted at just under £700, which I though was high however that turned out to be the cheapest quote I had. my car was at the dealer for 2 days. Hope this helps.

Hi ya. The reason I was given was the flush needs to be preformed a couple of times with a special Skoda flush kit ( this might be just a standard flush kit, I don’t know just know skodas cost for the kit around £140 ). this is to make sure all of the silica beads have been removed to prevent any blockages . the cost sounds about average to the costs I’ve heard Been quoted however its crazy and something I believe VW brands should help cover. how old is your car? And do you use main dealer? I’m only asking because I’ve just settled mine with Skoda

With the double wall type, does it still have a bag? Maybe this is the new style, sorry I don’t know what the new style looks like, just dealer told me no bag.

Sorry I’m not sure. I only got the info regarding the change as my car is due to go into the dealer and I asked what the new tanks looked like as I didn’t want to spend all this money with the possibility of it happening again. I was told they have just ordered one in to do another car and that one didn’t have a bag. Also on the system it shows lot of revisions to the design.

I’m sorry but I think you are missing the point . We are talking about a £30 header tank that if fails causes between £600 and over £1000 of damages) also dealers do no mention it however the moment Ive questioned them And asked ‘ could this be because of the silica bag I’m told yes”. the last dealer told me it takes a long time to flush as they need to follow a service bulletin for the issue. Then I’ve now found out the header tank as had several revisions and the new design doesn’t have silica bag.! 🤔 so if no major issue, why issue a change or service bulletin regarding a fix . personally I’ve worked in the spare parts business for over 20 years so I understand why companies issue changes . If this issues only effects a small number of cars(maybe before ur design type) then again why not cover repair bill . lastly I’ve not mentioned “every other car will have issues. “ I’ve just tried to inform other Skoda users of the issues I’ve had . Secondly , if it wasn’t for people on forums talking about the issues they have, nothing ever gets sorted .

Thank for the video. just had a update on my case. Car will be going in soon to be done . I’ve checked with the dealer to see if the new tank will have this bag, Confirmation From dealer the header tanks has had several revisions and the new ones don’t have a silica bag. So my question if skoda /VW haven’t had many issues to warrant a recall Or cover costs outside of warranty because of it being a design issue, why change the design of the header tank and remove the bag. it looks like skoda uk are going to support me on the repair bill so anyone having issues, it maybe worth a call. however, I do think skoda ( to be fair All VW brands that can suffer this issue) should see this as a recall issue or at least cover costs to repair.

Exactly , since I’ve been told about it the web seem full of people with issues . I guess if the result was a £100 or even £200 to fix but the cost are crazy and the costs I’ve had Seem the lowest at £680 Compared to some stories .

Thanks for the info. Shame all dealers do not give this advice. I’ve spoken to Skoda uk who told me not enough issues to warrant a recall . However lots of issues reported over vw, seat and Skoda forums. Plus why release this new style if the old style didn’t cause issues .

Sorry I’m no help., I’ve noticed a few forums on this site talking about it. I didn’t know about the bag until the cost to flush was mentioned on my last service . I thought they had the decimal point in the wrong place .

Thanks for the heads up. Shame. To be honest due to practically of the car and reports the mark 4 had better refinement I was just looking at a New petrol mark 4 estate. However, with these repair bills and more negative reports on Mark 4 issues and refinement I’m seriously questioning looking at them .

Morning , I think you can see them floating in tank, however I’m not sure sorry. Plus without checking with a mechanic I wouldn’t mess, last thing you want would be to find a bag and damage it.. I think there are lots of forums on here talking about it. I’ve found a couple below. One says new tanks do not have a bag so fingers crossed you are lucky. I’m talking to Skoda Direct ( dealer so far haven’t offered to talk to them ) strange how the ones I’ve found are all just out of warranty and around 40/ 50 k miles like mine . .

Fair play, I don’t blame you. Mines on a long life service, however the change oil came on after 7000miles and 16 months . Dealers answer, if it comes on it needs doing again so another £240. Then like I previously said thry recommend engine coolant flush due to contamination ( from there silica bag!) cheapest quote so far £680! Now I think egr valve needs replacing which is £500/£600 . Doing some research, I’m told these cars have 2 and one is a massive job near back of engine so can cost About £900 . skoda tell me small number of complaints so not enough to do a recall on the silica bags. However, my skoda dealer once I mentioned it they said yeah that’s probably the cause. Plus vw , seat and Audi forum sites all mention them splitting And people just taking them out before hand . maybe I’ve been lucky till now, but never had these type of repair bills on such a new low mileage car from other brands .

I don’t mind the look to be fair . I do like the look of the mark 4, however the issues I’ve just had with a 4 1/2 year old car with just of 40k on it I’m questioning Skoda/VW build quality. cost to repair stuff seems high. While it’s being repaired I’ve put my wife’s 2009 fiesta back on the road. Things bullet proof.

I do think it’s hard to find a good dealer for most brands. With all the cars I’ve owned I’ve always used main dealer ( more fool me I guess, I pay a lot more for servicing but I felt comfortable expecting a bit of loyalty) Loyalty is missing from lots of companies now. I also think the online service records Are naughty . Ok I like the idea but they will only record services processed at a skoda dealer. You can purchase a skoda service book to collect stamps but to move over to online system and only allow dealers to record is naughty.

Is it the new one, Mark 4 or make 3 Octavia ? lots of people say the Octavia petrols are quiet so I think it’s just the diesel one. The thing I found strange, sometimes it seems quiet,, but then certain roads just drive me mad 😡. Then the combination of engine, wind and road noise can boom the cab. I think the push to reduce weight means sound proofing have been sacrificed.

Def love the practical side and economy . 4 of us drove from the midlands to Brugge before Covid. Full car plus boot for of beer and we did the trip there and back on 3/4 days of a tank ! Crazy. However refinement On some roads can be terrible. Driving along the M5 a perfect example. road, wind and engine noise boom in the cabin ive heard the 1.5 petrol are quiet and smooth so maybe it’s just my experience with vw Diesel engines
