  1. Yeah I’m definitely looking into warranty’s on my next car. Especially cars like Hyundai (5 years) Kia (7 years ) or Toyota with 5 year . When you consider the rising cost of cars ( Skoda can not be classed as a cheap car now) plus the spare part prices, companies should offer better warranties than 3 years. Especially on large components.
  2. Good morning , yes you would be right. However all dealers are quoting the same ( I would say, they do replace 1 thing, coolant reservoir Which costs£30 ) They say it will takes at least 5 hours on the computer to make sure all contaminates are out of the system. ( from talking to the last dealer I believe there could be a service bulletin from skoda /VW regarding doing this process) If you check out vw engine silica bag In engine coolant reservoir you will find the cause of the issue . ive spoken to 4 Skoda dealers now and all say the same. ive even spoken to Skoda direct, complaining this must be a design issue. The silica bag was to help reduce the need to replace engine coolant however there are many reports on the net of the bags splitting and these deposits cause discolouration. So yep, normally a simple job however VW turn it into a massive repair bill for the dealers .
  3. Extended warranty is a good idea. I was really looking forward to the Octavia, i liked the looks ( I know some say it’s boring but I liked it) and space was good . However refinement is very poor. I find it uncomfortable to drive on poor motorways for long distance. the issue I find crazy, now my warranty as ended Are repairs are crazy . Silica bag design in the engine coolant reservoir means engine massive bill just to change engine coolant . Hopefully you want have these issues with your extended warranty
  4. Hi , sorry this is a late reply to your question. for me I wouldn’t touch Skoda if your issues with bmw are repair costs. skodas are not cheap any more and the repair costs are crazy . ive just been quite £850 for a engine coolant flush Only at a dealer . im also not sure how they get ratings so high. I purchased my new Octavia 4 years ago and I would say it’s been the worse car I’ve owned. Noisy lack of refinement And repairs Bills are crazy .
  5. Hi , not sure if you have purchased your Skoda yet however I would be careful. I moved to Skoda due to the VW reliability everyone talks about . However I can’t agree. I’ve a low mileage Octavia just out side of its warranty and I think it’s been the worse car I’ve ever owned . Poor refinement and any issues cost a fortune. I purchased my Octavia with optimism, roomy and I enjoyed standing up for the badge everyone bashed. But I’m sad to say this was my first and last Skoda .
  6. Hi all, not sure about new tanks And silica bags however I’ve just fell foul to the silica bag issue. 66 plate 1.6 tdi diesel with 43 k on the clock . my issue are the crazy prices to fix a technical design fault . £650 to £850 I’ve been quoted for just have the system flushed! I’ve mentioned my cam belt and water are due soon so can I save any bringing in that forward . Nope, that’s another £600. now the egr valve might need changing . This is my first and at present last Skoda I’ll buy.
  7. Hi, glad you are enjoying your new Octavia ... can I ask. How’s the refinement holding up ( wind, road and engine noise) ? I purchased my first Skoda 3 years ago( Octavia 16 plate mark3) and if I’m honest I was really disappointed. Refinement was terrible. Def not relaxing on some motorway! On the plus side the car was perfect size wise but overall refinement ruined it for me. Reviews seem a mixed bag on the new Octavia some say it’s really refined, some say not! It’s getting close to new car time and I was walking away from Skoda however if they have improved the refinement I maybe back.
  8. Hi all, sorry to hear your review on refinement. I purchased my first Skoda 3 years ago ( 16 plate Octavia) and the biggest issue I found was refinement. Engine noise, wind noise and road noise. Apart from this the car was great, however this lack of sound proofing really put me off. Driving on the m5 in the uk You would need ear plugs! Def not relaxing like some people report. With a small family the size of the Octavia is brilliant and reading new reviews and YouTube reviews who report how quiet the car is, I was hoping they had fixed the issue... but I always find user reviews the most honest. guess back to the drawing board to find my car. 😞
