  1. Yes you can contact Skoda Finance for a settlement sum any time during the term of the agreement. You can then either keep the car, sell it privately or trade it in.
  2. Now changed my 2018 Karoq 1.5 Edition for a new 2021 1.5 Edition. The 2018 car had two updates and whilst they improved matters the car still had a hesitancy when pulling away from cold, it did cure the kangaroo starts. Now the 2021 car is a revelation and is what the 1.5 engine should have been in the first place. It drives far smoother with no hesitancy when pulling away and the car is far quieter at motorway speeds. Not sure how the new car engine management systems differs from the updated old system but believe me it is most definitely a different car to drive.
  3. Just picked up my second Karoq Edition so the handover was straightforward as I was familiar with most of the controls. If you haven't had a VW or Skoda before get them to explain the controls and show you how the rear seat adjustment, movement, tipping and folding works. Get them to explain Skoda Connect, it's free for the first year so make the most of it, and also the emergency call system, just don't press the red button! Check that it has a spare wheel if you ordered one. Make sure that the light switch is set to Auto. Take some time to get the driver's seat right and understand what each seat adjustment does, they are not entirely logical. I'd wait to try and understand the infotainment system once you get home and you have the time to sit and play with it. One thing I will say is that the 2021 car drives a lot smoother and better than my 2018 car.
  4. Glad you got it sorted. Interestingly the batteries in both the main and spare keys of my MX5 also failed at the same time, however they had lasted 5 years and I did get a warning red light. Unlike the 18 months on the Karoq and no warning until it had actually failed.
  5. The key batteries will have died, there is another post about this. They only last about 18 months. Batteries in both the main key and spare fail because even if a key isn't used it is still transmitting.
  6. The alarm didn't go off on my car as I opened the car keyless ok and then the battery died and it wouldn't start. Luckily I saw the warning of flat key battery flash up before it died, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue why it didn't start. I will now replace my key battery every 12 months. I can't understand why there is no warning until the battery has actually died.
  7. Had exactly the same thing happen to me. Parked the car and locked ok. When I returned the car opened ok but when I tried to start it the warning of a flat key battery came up and the car wouldn't start, there had been no previous warning. Luckily I remembered reading in the manual about holding the key against the start button and car started ok. It is recommended to change both main and spare key batteries as a key is transmitting even if not being used. I also keep a spare battery in the car. The old batteries had only lasted about 18 months.
  8. A word of advice regarding Mazda paintwork and corrosion protection. As the owner of an 2007 MX5 and assuming that the CX5 is treated the same as the MX5s I can advise that you need to get the car underside treated with a good corrosion protection, Waxoyl or Dinitrol or similar. Based on the experience of owners of older MX5s like myself the owners of new MX5s have found that there are large areas underneath that have not been treated with any corrosion protection. Also Mazda paint is very thin and soft and needs careful polishing and treatment, do not use any abrasive compounds but get the paintwork sealed with a polymer sealant and keep well waxed
  9. No a railway rolling stock engineer with 50 years design and testing experience. Having owned a Mk1 1.9 tdi Superb Saloon, Mk2 2.0 tdi Superb Elegance Estate, Octavia 1.4 tsi saloon, Octavia 1.4 tsi Estate I have to say that the 1.5 Karoq is the best all round car to drive, particularly on long motorway journeys, seat comfort definitely the best, Superb Elegance Estate in which I did 75,000 miles in 3 years good for high speed motorway cruising but worst in seat comfort. My wife says that having driven diesels I don't give the petrol engine enough revs when I pull away, having always driven petrol she does and never kangaroos.
  10. Whilst my Karoq still has the issue when pulling away I have adapted my driving style to the lifting the clutch and as the car starts moving pressing the accelerator. If needing to pull away quickly then adopt my wife's driving style of plenty of revs. With the latest ECU firmware once the engine is warm then it is a lot better. My opinion is that aside from the pulling away issue I am so impressed by the car and the smoothness of the 1.5 engine on the motorway I would still buy the car again. I can live with the slight changes I need to make to pull away smoothly. However I will still take it back once the next version of the ECU firmware is made available as I am still disappointed that VW would put an engine out with such a bad flat spot on pulling away. But for now I will live with it and appreciate everything else that I love about the car.
  11. I have been told by my dealer that VW Group recognise the problem with the 1.5 engine in 1st gear and are developing a solution. The solution will have to go through WLTP testing because it applies to all models, both pre WLTP approval and post. They will not just issue a fix for early cars. Under WLTP rules every model that has the 1.5 engine will have to be tested with the new ECU software. Hence this will take time.
  12. Yes I had a serious misfire when on holiday in August with my 1.5 TSI when pulling away. The engine warning light came on and engine went into limp home mode so managed to get back to holiday cottage 2 miles away. Called AA man out and when restarted the car ran ok but showed a misfire on number 2 cylinder fault plus 2 VW fault codes that the AA didn't know what they were. Got back home ok and took the car back to dealer. He diagnosed an ECU software fault and updated the software. No problems since. The engine stop/start will also show a fault as it is automatically isolated due to the misfire.
  13. Not sure what "engine run with arithmea" is but interesting that you have also had an engine fault that then cleared when you switched off and then back on, exactly as mine did. The ecu update has definitely improved my 1st gear pulling away, now only get the flat spot pulling away when the engine is cold. However this does make it difficult pulling away on the hill a few yards from home if I have to stop for the traffic lights. However as I say it is a lot better than it was.
  14. Just over 4,000 miles. Was driving slowly down a narrow road when the car suddenly lost power and was running of 3 cylinders. Called out AA who read fault codes, saw number 2 cylinder was misfiring but he couldn't read some other VW specific fault codes. Car restarted ok and drove over 250 miles home ok. Took it into Hayselden Skoda who could read all fault codes. They then decided the car needed upgraded engine management software. Car now definitely drives smoother at low engine revs.
  15. Had to take my 1.5 into Hayselden Skoda due to an intermittent misfire and they have updated the engine management software. Pulls away a lot smoother and engine performs better between 1,000 to 2,000 rpm.
