  1. That's the way of the ancients I will get some pictures/videos of the issue next time and report it to the dealership to get it "on paper" and hope we can reach the magic number to trigger some action from VAG
  2. I had this twice, out of 5 time driving the car since delivery about 10 days ago. Can't say the first time as I wasn't using the navigation, but the second time the GPS failed very annoyingly and affected even google maps through Carplay as apparently it uses the car GPS not the phone, so my wife had to take out her phone and navigate the old fashioned way. Please get back to us with update after the service. I was going to wait for 3rd strike before contacting the dealership, but it appears i'm not an isolated incident
  3. All clear now, I thought we need to sort out the car data connectivity through our own SIM card seeing how the older Karoq had a SIM card and reading post about people using various SIM cards. How do you share the internet from your phone dataplan for web radio etc. is it enough to link it with CarPlay or do you have to activate the phone hot spot and connect the car WiFi to it?
  4. Ah seems like the Skoda connect sub is at least partially going towards the data fees for the built-in SIM. And I assume the data packs you can buy from the e-store are if you want to use the car as hot spot for devices and use data outside of the Skoda connect functionality. That makes sense.
  5. Finally got my Karoq Edition last weekend and se far very pleased with every aspect of it (will get some pics in when I get some time) The only aspect I can't yet figure out and the Dealership isn't very clued up in is how the new eSIM ties up to car internet connectivity, most importantly Skoda-connect remote access. My understanding is that MY21 no longer has a SIM slot for you to be able to pick a provider and you are stuck with the built-in eSIM and fixed non-UK mobile network provider. Is that correct? The dealership is not really aware how it works - for them it's black magic and apparently should be free. Which i'm very skeptical about it, seeing how there is option to top-up in the infotainment system. Further confusion stems from the fact that when I disabled the eSIM Apple Carplay disconnected my phone. I'm mostly interested in using the Skoda-connect remote access when the car alarm is activated, as the car is parked 5min away from home in a secure car park. So the question is how does it all work and will I have to top-up to use Remote connect or is it included in the 10 year plan of the eSIM or in the 1 year plan for the Skoda-connect remote access?
  6. I might not be super into how the car looks, but the bar is around high vs. low profile tires - No chance in hell to swap the alloys for steel Thanks for the tips about inspecting the alloys for damage and tire pressure before I drive off. I wasn't too happy that the only option on the Edition are 19" wheels, but during the test drive didn't feel too bad. I think I might just give them a go for a couple of months on the crappy factory fitted tires and potentially swap them for 17 or 18 when buying the all seasons tiers later this year
  7. i'm on the fence about swapping the what I assume will be poor quality Bridgestone tires first thing and selling them as unused and put all season tires from day 1. Or wait and do it at the end of the summer. Weather is rather mild in the SE and 2 sets of summer/winter tires make no sense especially with my low mileage, so all season have been my preferred choice for years. Was thinking about if the protection is worth it or not, but ultimately opted against.
  8. thanks for all the feedback, controls are not a problem as I have been driving VAG cars (SEAT and Audi) for the last 15 or so years. didn't spot any major differences during the test drive. Good tips to check the spare wheel and accessories like the security bolt for the wheels. Will ask about the KESSY too, in light of the recent tread about locking/unlocking intricacies. I had to burn some carry annual leave from 2020 and will have some extra time to play around the new toy
  9. I have finally have a date for handover of mew new Karoq Edition this Saturday. This is my first new car in my 20+ years driving history. Are there any tips, trick and pitfalls I need to be looking for? Don't want to miss something something oblivious, when the excitement takes hold.
  10. £36 for the remote access, so you can get notifications when your alarm is triggered, especially if you don't park right next to home isn't too bad
  11. You can find them for about a fiver for a pair on aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002043434042.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.86044280QZ3076&algo_pvid=0465a7ba-a3a5-477a-91c2-1549e38e9070&algo_expid=0465a7ba-a3a5-477a-91c2-1549e38e9070-9&btsid=0b0a01f816156557400877293e34c7&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_ Doesn't explicitly mention Karoq, but look identical and someone said they are the same as Octavia. Just ordered a pair. With new user discount of £2.20 added VAT it came down to £3.13 well worth the punt even if they don't fit or end up tripping the CAN BUS
  12. I was planning to save the money for the virtual cockpit, but I had the (mis)fortune of having it on the test drive car. Once you have seen it in action it's very difficult to go back to "normal". It's definitely going to get as standard in the higher trims in the next couple of years and slowly trickle down to all cars. As for the main topic of cleaning the displays. I think that OP's concern is about vulnerability to some displays (not only in cars) in the past to certain cleaning products that can permanently damage the top layer. I'm fairly sure this has been resolved long ago, but by all means if you have concerns ask the dealership to recommend something via e-mail so you have it in writing. If you have Covid concerns - may just use gloves when you get the car and for the next 2-3 days. But as others have mentioned, unless you live in a letteral bubble there are far easier ways of catching Covid than your supposedly disinfected car.
  13. No one can answer your main concerns "will you enjoy it". That's probably the most subjective quality in any product. We can only share our experiences and let you decide if you are the only crazy person around In my case I have driven VAG cars for about 15 years. Various Seats and my current car of 8 years a '57 plate Audi A6, that is starting to show it's age and has been begging for replacement for some time. The trigger was the announced expansion of the London ULEZ from September which would have meant paying £15/day, screw that. After watching about 1000000000 YouTube videos and being well accustomed to VAG vehicles I had my sights set on the Karoq as the most sensible choice for compact SUV. Got great deals for it from carwow and was probably going to order it blind without a test drive if it wasn't for the pre-Christmas easing of lockdown that allowed me to go for a test drive. My main question/test was if the ride was comfortable enough with the DCC, that has a hefty £1k price tag. Bottom line is, ride quality and space are comparable with the 12 y.o. A6 even without the DCC and on 19" wheels. Bought the extended warranty (£660 I believe). My current plan is to either drive this for 10 years or so or sell it after 4 years, at which point it will have 1 year warranty left which with my low mileage will hopefully allow me to get better price for it. History will tell if my idea was correct or not.
  14. Does it work with google maps too, or just apple maps?
  15. Both the brochure and the owner's manual state Apple Carplay is wireless (and I hope it's true). Cars built after around September 2020 (wiser forumites might know more exact date) have the updated interior with USB-C
